Vita has a much larger screen, much better motion resolution, much better colors and much better black levels.

PSP is native resolution so no scaling (godly scaling on the Vita though). It's not emulation so it doesn't have the slight input/audio latency the Vita has and the screen seems much brighter (CFW so like twice as bright as a normal PSP 3000).

Of course for all games one aspect is more important than all others, and that's controls, for games with complicated control schemes then I of course instantly go for the Vita. Which brings me to my point: Everyone should get ProQuake and see how fun FPS games can be on a Vita. Doesn't work on Ark for whatever reason.

Oh, there's a rumored Vita revision at the 20th PlayStation Meeting, with HDMI out and 4G support. Yeah I wouldn't put much stock into it either. I think the meeting will entirely be about the PS4.
play it on the Vita
Hell, the Vita's screen is exactly 2x that of the PSP, so the scaling is perfect. And it's such a better screen and the controls are better. Even if I don't like the Vita's sticks as much as the 3DS circle pad [although I do wish the 3DS had 2 of them built-in, haha], they're 100x better than the PSP stick/nub.

This is the biggest reason I want a Vita -- better controls and screen for PSP games. I probably won't buy one anytime soon though, because I still haven't gotten myself a PS3 yet [and I will certainly get one of those before a Vita]...

The not using memory stick thing would drive me insane too, a 32GB stick is fine for a PSP, but I sure wouldn't pay more than $30 for one [$5 for microSD->MS converter, $25 for a 32GB microSD]. I can't be arsed to pay $80+ for a 32GB Vita card. Although, that is the same price as an actual 32GB Memory Stick Pro DUO... bleh.

Maybe microMicroSD will become a format and there'll be a mMSD -> Vita card converter...

and HDMI out would be sexy as hell

Sony really needs to push this thing, because it looks like a nice piece of kit. And cut memory prices, seriously. I know a few people who'd be interested in getting a Vita if card prices weren't insane.
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

Finished episode 1 of Quake on the Vita on hard, probably going to go through the entire game and then Scourge of Armagon. Assuming the source port keeps stable all the time, most of my Vita playtime is probably going to end up being Quake :P

Found out something annoying though, you can lightly depress the Vita's triggers and it won't register. there's only a little more pressure required to get it to actually click but it still bugs me.

So that Vita Heaven expo was a bit of a let-down. No new games (aside from ports). I guess Sony have pretty much given up on it. Huge price cut though.

Oh really? What's it down to now? Might grab a 2nd hand one if it gets into bargain bin territory.

I got rid after finding the much-hyped Gravity Rush to be a horrible pile of shit. Possibly the most mismanaged piece of hardware I've ever encountered, and with little on the horizon I can't see it recovering.

3DS will save you my son. Let it into your life.

Just done the google: $220 in Japan, so that's £142 approx. A bit more reasonable, despite having bugger all of interest apart from DJ Max. I'll probably see if I can find one in the aftermarket when next in Tokyo.

My new phone is a Galaxy Note 2, so I was playing with emulators for shits and giggles. I downloaded Mupem 64, expecting nothing. I got Ocarine working on a 5-inch(ish) screen, with no jitters, and at what seems to be a sharper res that the original. I swear, I got shivers, and that doesn't happen very much these days. Then I tried on my little lad's Nexus 7, and he can plug a fucking X360 joypad straigh in via a two quid lead. Insane. So yeah, I guess I really, really want a 3DS. Because Nintendo's finest has never been touched, and even their shovelware shits on most.

So, yeah, back to Vita. Erm... Seems like it can be cracked in the right hands, which makes it a more expensive PSP, with a nicer screen.

Mine is a Galaxy SIII, and I had the same experience. Emulation is very impressive and looks incredible on the screen. Leave the 360 pad. I got a USB adaptor for £1 off ebay and plugged my USB Saturn pad into it, and it's all the retro you could want on the go.

It sounds like you have an appreciation for finer gaming, but I'll admit once you burn through Nintendo's best on the 3DS you're left looking at Kid Icarus (an acquired taste) or Resi: Revelations, and not too much else. It needs a second wind at the moment, and a region hack like crazy.

Anyone seen the Vita presentation yesterday?

What a dud. They did nothing but shoot themselves in the foot if what they showed is how they plan to revitalize the platform. I hope Sony gets their shit together as it'd suck to have Ninty being the only player in the handheld arena.

But, Nintendo and Apple are the only players in the pool.

Frankly, it's one of those things that having a monopoly on is nice. Imagine if it was impossible to play every game ever made on your PC; that's a godless hellhole I never wish to see.

I picked up Virtua Tennis 4 for $20 shipped sealed via the interwebs. It's actually pretty good. Liking the arcade mode.

I'm trying to see where I can pick up a cheap sealed copy of Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus. Lamestop has it for $20 but its a new/unsealed copy locally. Amazon has it for $28 free shipping but I'm waiting to see if anyone has it for cheaper. :P

Hardware manufacturers, game publishers, game developers and game stores all compete on Windows. There's not much of a monopoly on anything that matters to gaming (Microsoft is TRYING to establish one now with much opposition).

A Nintendo handheld monopoly would have only them making the hardware (expect very slow tech progress), online stores (have fun paying MSRP 5 years after the game is released) and controlling game releases (stuff might get blocked from release or censored).

Not sure why you would see that as desirable.

Nintendo have proved time after time that you can make very fun and good games on old and weak hardware.
ZellSF wrote:online stores (have fun paying MSRP 5 years after the game is released)
Fair enough point, but I'm pretty sure that it's mostly because Nintendo hasn't really figured out "connectivity" yet.

And on the other hand, people like myself prefer no (or minimal) "connectivity", because I feel it's not positive in pretty much any way. I'd rather play local multiplayer or single, than play over internet. I'd rather physically own my copies/extra content/etc. than have them stored on an easily corruptible Flash chip.
ZellSF wrote:and controlling game releases (stuff might get blocked from release or censored).
Nintendo have been pretty good about this for the past... 10 years now? The censoring and release prevention stuff was NES and SNES era, they stopped doing that after Genesis got huge kudos for allowing violent games I'm pretty sure.

Remember how it took 12 years to move from Gameboy to the GBA? Then 3 to get to the DS? Man, that was a kick in the gonads.

~7 year cycles are nice. Not having to miss out on anything is nice.

To be fair, having GBA compatibility on the DS kept GBA stuff flowing for a while, especially compared to how GB/GBC releases were dropped like a rock after the GBA was released [they existed, sure, but it was mostly shovelware].

Also, Nintendo has had a monopoly on the handheld market from the release of the GB up to the release of the PSP [and even that can be contested a bit, it was a while before the PSP really took off].
Sure, there's been competition, but nothing that actually stuck until the PSP [which was the only major non-Nintendo handheld that sold enough to get a legitimate successor [Lynx just had different build shapes, Game Gear never got an update, Neo Geo Pocket only got a color version, which doesn't really count, etc]].

Yes, only the annoucement that you'll be able to instantly switch over to PS Vita from PS4 via Remote Play and continue playing every PS4 game on your PSV.

Uh...how is that worthwhile, again? There's a giant HDTV right in front of you, man! And you'd get some jolly out transferring the image to a smaller screen and playing it that way? lol.

Actually...I can see some sense in this, Friendly. It condenses the image into a more compact and crisp space, so the visual changes should be at least somewhat interesting. At least in the same way seeing a city at night from the view of your airplane window gives it a certain toy like charm, as opposed to seeing the buildings up close. Probably a horrible analogy, but it's the best I can do.

I'm not even trolling this time.

Samsung's Galaxy Note II has a better screen than the Vita, from personal experience. It's much crisper and I've never seen it blotch out like the Vita.

It's also larger.

I rate Mesh's life 3 spurts of diarrhea from the ass of a sickly horse out of 10. It's not quite 10, but it's getting there from the increasingly pessimistic tone of each of his posts.

Speaking of which (and feel free to start a new thread for this), try fesenjan. It's a strange Persian dish (pomegranate casserole) that falls into the taste spectrum of either sweet as candy or tart as hell or somewhere in between. Looks like pure diarrhea, tastes like the essence of Christ himself. if that isn't the most ironic joke to come out of nature ever, I don't know what is.
