Speaking of the Dreamcast, my VGA box gives me vertical jailbars on most sets I've connected it to, save for an old computer CRT monitor.
Happens with both PAL & NTSC-J units.
Anything one can do about that, or just get one from another brand?

if your lcd displays have some sort of auto-adjust function for analogue inputs you should try running that while the dc is connected to them

It might not be jailbars. See if you can adjust the "Clock" setting on your monitor.

RE: Capacitors

My understanding after a few minutes reading online is that you either need a multimeter (got that) and to desolder one leg (don't got) from the PCB, or you can use an ESR meter.

ESR meter sounds like the way to go. Anybody able to suggest a good one that won't break the bank?

can anyone tell me if this jp21 pinout diagram is correct?

http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/77 ... utno0.jpg/

and if so i'd like to know how to deal with the sync ground when rewiring a scart cable, since there appear to be two pins for that on the jp21 pinout

Ground pins are always next to the signal pin on the same row.

You are interested in sync in, right, then you want sync in ground which is placed next to it on pin 7.

but the sync ground is not next to the sync in on the scart pinout ?

Fudoh, what do you think of this, they claim to improve the emulation of CRTs using LCDs with this:

I'm skeptical.

That is because there are two sync pins and only one sync ground. The sync ground is next to one of them.

I have a NTSC PS1 9001. Is it safe to use any power cord that fits for it? I misplaced the one that came with it but it looks like a standard plug.

Also I'm looking for the official PS 1/2 RGB SCART cable is this one the official cable?

yup! the ps1 has an INTERNAL power supply, so all you need to do is supply it with the AC current from your wall outlet. any standard cable can carry that :)

Kickass! It turned on but I was scared to make it permanent without confirmation. Any tips on that SCART cable?

Does anyone have any advice regarding how to buy a Micomsoft XPC-4? Amazon.jp won't ship to America, and it isn't listed as an item in stores like Solaris Japan.

Use a proxy like http://shoppingmalljapan.com/

Be prepared to pay a hefty premium for the privilege though.

My first choice would be a store that would just sell at MSRP + shipping. Do you know what that premium is for that proxy service? There is one seller on Ebay selling an XPC-4 for $678, but I think that is ridiculous.

Proxy premium depends on many factors. I'd say count on about $100 over MSRP for your total with shipping included, if not a bit more.

Recall that Fudoh recommended Snakebyte if you can't get the Sony one.

Can I use a Euro RGB SCART cable for my american NTSC Dreamcast? I think I remember reading about some SCART issue for the Dreamcast, but I just cannot remember or find what it was.

You use it, yes. The issue was that some games don't support RGBs output (for example the japanese SF Zero 3).

not worth the money.

I would usually suggest an iScan Pro (usually around $75-80), but if you want to use a Supergun you need something with RGB input and this is where it gets complicated. If you're able to provide some custom cabling you might want to get a GBS-8220 along with a MiniSLG or SLG3000 instead.

Tried about 5 CRT's now, a wide range of makes and models, with the supergun... all except for one has b & w image. The one that works is a huge Sony Trinitron that is just not that convenient. Are there certain technical details / brands / release years that I should be looking for?

This -- I recently picked up an 8220 specifically to use a supergun on my LCD monitor.

Haven't built it yet though ...

Stupid question but I have to ask...

I have OK Baby arcade cabinet with Hantarex polo chassis and that has remote control board like this Image

Is it safe to adjust the picture settings from that when the cabinet is powered on, or only when it´s not powered?
