Or am I playing just totally wrong?
With Konami it's usually infinite (although I guess they might limit it to 256).

And yes, an average loop score is around 3.5 million, so roughly 3 loops (give or take) to hit 10 million. The achievement won't pop until after you finish your credit (it'll unlock when you view the experience tabulation screen).
OK, I only got to 2-5 but that's good info to know.

Otomedius Excellent is limited to 99 loops.

As far as I know, the limited edition was pre-order only. I can confirm that the game is shipping for pre-order customers tomorrow, and will be arriving on the eighth for regular customers. We received an email from corporate about it today. The code will auto-print on your receipt when you pick it up. If for some reason it doesn't, there is a back-up code for it in the system. If the person behind the counter knows what they are doing, they can print the back-up code no problem.

lol, no way I'll be doing that ever. 1 loop is long enough, 3 is going to be some serious work.

Well, then Amazon made a mistake by shipping my limited edition preorder on Nov 2? Not that I'm complaining, mind you :D

So I guess the top scorer on the J leaderboards counter-stopped the loops, huh (I haven't even bothered to look)? I guess that makes sense... at roughly half an hour per loop, 99 loops is roughly 50 hours.. add in several extra hours for timing out later bosses and yeah, that follows.

When my score was #20 shortly after release, I had taken the game out to 10 loops and wasn't points pressing. I could probably break the record score if I *REALLY* wanted to, at least before the patch. The difficulty spikes aren't as bad in this game as say, Otomedius G.

It's actually closer to 40 minutes/loop. So you're looking at even longer. It's pretty bad. I came to the conclusion that If I ever do that attempt, I'm doing it with a team of 3 people on hand to record the mess, and to manage backup power. My luck states that I would make it to loop 98 and the power would fail.

Sheesh, 99 Loops, that's crazy, would be more fitting for a world record attempt.

The furthest I got was loop 7 with about a dozen extends in stock, but I just couldn't take playing through more of the game so I just suicided like crazy to end the credit.

I know I had it closer to half an hour (after the patch that removed all the ridiculous slowdown in the mining cavern) per loop.. but that was boss crushing everything with Diol Twee using Gravity Bullet and her Platonic Break like it was going out of style.

My problem was I had work the next day. I had been streaming for like 5 hours straight and was ready to keep going. I had to sleep so I could function at my job.

I think I had like 26 stock at that point? I had to suicide for at least 5 minutes.

So did this game have different preorder bonuses depending on where you got it? If so, what are all the "preorder" bonuses? Is there content exclusive to the limited edition game that came with anime love pillows?

Not 100% sure i want to buy this game, I've liked gradius (liked not loved) but i've been in the mood for some easy shooters lately.

Amazon came with no preorder bonus. You got what was in the box.
The LE comes with a pillow and an artbook with CD of 35 tracks spanning much of Konami's shooter history.

Anyone in Canada manage to get a copy yet? My Amazon Canada order still shows that they don't have it in stock.

So i walked to the nearest gamestop and figured to ask about it just for shits and giggles. The guy told me they had 4 preorders, and usually what the companies do is add a few extra copies of the game to the order. That very hour they got the shipment with 5 copies in.

I ended up getting it. I will cry my shame onto a very comfy pillow now

Went down to my local Gamestop after work today to see if they had gotten their pre-order OE-CE sets in. The GS associate said that it was listed in the computer scheduled to arrive today but not in yet. So I said I'll call back later in the afternoon. Called back a few hours later, was told that it still hadn't been shipped in yet and to check back on Monday. WTF!?

I pre-ordered the OE-CE set and it's still a no-show today. I shall see what happens on Monday. I just might have to make some calls to the other local GS stores and see if they got any OE-CE sets in (there are at least four seperate GS locations within the Greater Modesto/Riverbank, CA areas alone).

Hmmm, I recall pre-ordering the NA Deathsmiles LE set from GS and it arrived on day one as promised. It could be an alloted amount set aside for intial distribution to the brick 'n' mortar GS stores. It's all cool.

Do some of you guys just buy any shmup that comes out to "support the genre" because this game looks like an unorganized grabastic piece of amphibian shit.

You do know the DLC is "Printed on the Receipt". Not part of the CE.

If its not on the receipt, go and ask them politely to get your code on there.

I know we all have our opinions, but to me, this is not a POS, its just too good. Really need to practice on it.

Never heard of Otomedius until I decided to cash in some gift certificates and browsed Barnes and Noble the other day, game shipped within 24 hours. I love Gradius and boobs, win win.

Gorgeous mode is terrible, arcade mode is not (when played properly). It is an acquired taste though.

Actually, Canada does. I got mine today. But of course, of all of my rotten stupid luck, no Vic Viper code. freaking LAME. I even work at the Gamestop I preordered it from, WTF right?! Head office is getting a call..... >=(
Really? It amazes me that a Gamestop in Nova Scotia would get stock before Amazon's main shipping centre in Mississauga. I used to have terrible luck getting game's even close to release when I lived down east. Still this is somewhat reassuring that it might come in on Monday.

Out of curiosity did you Gamestop get any of the LE's? Seems like none around here would even let me pre-order.

I can attest that Otomedius X is also pretty shit, but it's still 100x better than Otomedius Gorgeous was. Finally, a Konami shmup where i can touch a wall and not explode. As for the question of why I'm buying it; I honestly have no idea. I already own the JP release and almost never play it. I think my primary motivation on this one is more as a collector (there no way this will have a sizable print run).

Word of warning:

While it's not great, Otomedius Gorgeous is fine. Worth owning if you like Gradius games (the Platinum reprint is cheap, btw).

However, Otomedius Excellent is utter garbage, in every regard: Ugly, awful level design, boring music, laughable difficulty (I 1ccd it the very first time I ever played it).
Why they skipped the first game in favor of bringing over this crap is beyond me.

Terrible game, avoid. Konami should not be encouraged to make more turds like this.
