I don't even own a 360 yet, but I'll probably try to get this. I don't want to have to go through the "OMG RARE L@@K!" $90 price gouging bullshit a year or so from now.
Maybe I'll luck out, and someone will get an PC EMU going for the less graphically intense games (yeah right ).

Not sure of "the chances," but most US games released thus far (though not all) will work on a JP console, so if I had to guess I'd imagine that the odds weren't too bad for this one to do the same. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.
I'm scooping up two to support these guys (Amazon, pre-order). The Japanese one is amazing- and pre patched goodness on the US one and 1/4 of the price means that anybody on the fence needs to straight buy a few already.
Sorry if this was already answered, but will this work on a JP 360? The Valcon thread explicitly said it won't work on PAL consoles, but I haven't seen anything definitive about JP consoles.
I did. But I didn't see anything about JP consoles addressed in the thread he linked to, it's all about PAL. Valcon's response was literally just "Region locked." I wasn't sure how to interpret that in regards to NTSC-J since the entire discussion was about PAL. It seems like it's NTSC-U/C only based on the post right above it, though (my knowledge of region locking is sketchy since I'm primarily a MAME pirate, which is probably why I'm confused).

IF the US version is locked out of Japanese consoles, I'll let you "adopt" my Japanese copy. I am really only holding on to it for the DVD which I like to reference on occasion.
Even though one of the features I was looking forward to was competing on the leaderboards…
I just started playing this a few days ago; I've got a question about the leaderboards. There seems to be very few people on them (less than 500 in RF1). Is it all or some of these reasons?
-the leaderboards were reset after the major patch
-the game is not popular
-people don't play the Xbox Live option
-I'm completely blind and am looking in the wrong place
Before the patch there where maybe twice as many players in the leaderboard. The game sold about 7,000 copies in total so I guess you're right, it's not very popular. Which is a shame really as it is easily the best shmup release on the 360 so far (haven't played Deathsmiles yet).
WTB: Arkanoid II Revenge Of Doh PCB, Outzone PCB, Fixeight PCB
A few weeks ago was the first time I played a Raiden fighters game. I drove up to Reading PA to check out Challenge Arcade. They had Raiden Fighters Jet there. I dropped about $15 (25¢ per play). I enjoyed it so much I started looking at PCB prices for it. I'd rather just drop $20 on the port and also get RF 1 and 2 as well. I look forward to checking out the rest of the ships I didn't get to try.

Other things to note that Valcon pointed out in their forums:
The game will include the ver 1.1 patch on the disc.
Also, the US version will have its own ladder boards (they won't be integrated with the existing Japanese ones).
All of these points are pretty stupid. Why region lock the game, as well as the leaderboard?
its related to licensing. On the forums Valcon had a rep that stated it would be nice to be region free, but it made no business sense. They want to be able to pursue a relationship with a distributor in Europe and that will not be possible if they made the US version region free.
E. Randy Dupre wrote:Tha's fine, but there's no good reason why the leaderboards shoudn't be integrated with the existing Japanese ones.
are you familiar with any games that have been released in different regions by different publishers and they share a common leaderboard? If this is normal practice then I could agree there is no reason for them not to share a leaderboard.
Namco's games - Ridge, Beautful Katamari - are published in Japan by Namco themselves and in Europe by EA, but they have consistent, wordwide scoreboards.
The two current gen Armored Core games have both been released in Europe by different publishers than in Japan and have worldwide multiplayer and rankings.
There must be others, but those are the ones that pop into my head immediately.
