i dont use autofire, dosent feel right.

in certain games it dosent matter, but some games it definitely is an advantage.

games that come with auto fire are fine obviously; thats the way they are meant to be played. i enjoy games with semi-auto like the various Cave games. those allways feel just right to me.

it just feels wrong to use autofire on games like GunSmoke and Metal Slug. so i dont. if my hands get tired its time to stop playing for a bit.

i try to avoid using control pads for shmups.

Then maybe you should fly over to Japan and go into every arcade that totals scores for Arcadia and rip all of the custom made auto fire PCBs out of their cabs. Follow up with maybe some dramatic ripping out wires and stomping on the boards. That'll show those little girls what's up. After that, Arcadia will probably catch wind of how hardcore you are and throw out every world record ever done while using autofire. Instead of being the widely accepted norm across many genres, players using autofire will now get spit on and booed at when they walk into an arcade.

I've been to Japan a lot and the ratio of PCBs that have an Auto-Fire feature that actually have them enabled is about 50-50. Most people in Japan don't really care either way if you're using auto-fire or not, people care about your bullet dodging and combo skills. You know this, I know this, just relax and have fun.

You want to play the game at the optimal amount from what I see. Do you get power-ups? They make the game easier, by your own "logic" (assuming you have any) these should be disallowed. In fact shooting makes the game easier. So obviously you don't care about playing it at the hardest it can be played at.

I wonder how many quotes are required to get it to roll over onto another line...

And oh yes, autofire is cool. There's a reason its an option in most home ports. I like not dealing with carpal tunnel.

Go play Zanac or something that actively discourages autofire if you don't like it.
