Batrider PCB Normal Course
DEL - 6,170,000 - ALL - Strawman (A) / Carpet (C) / Wild Snail (B)

The usual Comedy of Errors:-
* Failed to Trigger Bashinet, due to forgetting my old ship selection order.
* Failed to Trigger Black Heart, ditto^.
* Failed to trigger Sobut & Envy.

My first game of Normal Course for many months, so I guess I was gonna make all kinds of mistakes :? .
Triggering the above^ Bosses would have netted me something 6.6mil and up.

I'll take my camera next time and try not to make such glaring mistakes.

Regs, DEL
Ps. Icarus - the score 6,170,000 may look 'rounded off' but it isn't, it just happened to end like that.

Thats okay DEL, I trust you. I've seen plenty of 'rounded off' looking score entries before - SiK's 20mil DDP score on the Gamespy boards and Rastan78's Ibara Harder mode score being two - so they happen. I had exactly 11mil in Darius Gaiden when my credit ended, just last night as well. ^_-

I think the current upper limit for Normal Course here is about 7mil with all bosses and effective milking. Feeling up to it?

That's an incredible score. I'm still trying to break 4 million. I can't handle the special boss bashi - and I can never seem to trigger blackheart.

Normal Course

Post by DEL »

Icarus - 7mil - ok I try. I've gotta figure its possible, especially since I missed two 'easy to trigger' Bosses - Bashinet and Black Heart. Normally I would have crashed the game out, but I was playing a 50p credit.

Hi Landshark! - Why not try copying my ship selection in this order:- Strawman (A), Wild Snail (B), Carpet (C)?

btw Icarus - Why is there no WR listed in Gemant's Arcadia list for A.P.Batrider Normal Course?

I shouldn't think so. Especially as they played Mush Original Mode quite heavily, and that's far more simplistic & limited than Batrider's Normal Course.

Maybe its an omission? Let's face it, it would be listed even if it had a score problem (as many are).

Maybe Gemant knows.

---------------------
Still gotta get Advanced Course out of the way. Last time I faced the Last Boss I didn't know the routine. Gotta scratch that itch!
Of course once scratched, its on to playing Advanced with a team & triggering Black Heart Mk II, Glow Squid etc. - I tried it once and reached BH MK II.

Anyway, enough waffling :o

DEL- Nice job! I remember Matt saying that the Normal Course record was around 9 million, but I haven't seen anything more "official."

DEL, I'm pretty sure that the official rankings only included scores from Advanced mode. This was definitely the case with Battle Bakraid also. It would be very interesting to know the highest scores that were achieved on normal though.

I just kept holding down on the A button and I also kept making sure to spam bombs whenever I somehow managed to acquire them. Also, staying on the bottom of the screen to make it easier to watch for incoming bullets, that way you could move away/scatter from them faster didn't hurt, either. I also didn't try to move across and around the entire screen at times trying to collect all of the powerups that are either falling at you, or are available to pick up at their predesignated locations, either, because that would make it easy for you to lose lives quickly, if you were not careful. I also didn't try to trigger secret bosses (although I would love to know how to fight that giant metal gorilla robot, and also the final ninja boss from "Kingdom Grand Prix," as I saw both of those old Raizing bosses in one of the Advance Course mode end credit durations (I actually can't remember any more whether or not they each appeared in separate durations, or in the same duration altogether). I got the big brownish-yellow juggernaut Blunt as my 5th stage boss, and I did lose 2 lives in the 6th and 7th stages, the first one during a huge guncannon scene in stage 6, and the second one during the TRUE final boss battle (the second boss that you fight, the huge (and absolutely COOL looking) battleship) in stage 7.

And, also, I have kept practicing and playing for 2-3 months ever since I first downloaded "Batrider" for Mame.

And, if it wasn't because of anything that I had listed in those first two paragraphs, then it was probably just luck... ;) But, really, in the end, it was all because of constant and continuous practice and play. There is really no true explanation (or way to explain) as to and for how to play the game (and the same thing, in my humble opinion, applies to each and every other shooter, as well; it doesn't matter to me, and I don't care which shooter it is, or whether or not you would care to disagree with me (if you do, and if you choose to)). It varies for each player, if you ask me. All you can really do to win in any shooter, in my humble opinion, is just keep firing, keep spamming bombs whenever you just so happen to acquire them, play keepaway to make it easier to spot incoming bullets that way you can move away/scatter from them faster and don't try to move around the screen looking for powerups if you want to preserve whatever lives you have remaining. As for triggering secret bosses, it's actually all up to you as to whether or not you would like to do that. Personally, I would love to fight that giant metal gorilla robot and the KGP final ninja boss, if anyone could please give me any tips and tricks as to how to trigger boss battles with those two, if it is even possible to, I would GREATLY appreciate it.

And, besides, in the end, I'm not really much of a teacher when it comes to any type or manner of video gaming; rather, I'm actually just a gamer. And, if it is all right with you, I would just like to STAY the gamer, for I truly, in the end, have nothing to teach: rather just suggestions, encouragement, and words of advice. And that, my fellow gamer friends, is all that I really want to give to you.

Landshark - Hope this lineup gives you a better chance on Normal Course scoring :D . For Advance Course I'd recommend sticking to Strawman only, as cigs does.

I hope you don't mind me asking for a screenshot of your scores just to validate them, especially since you're new here, I don't know you that well, and your first post was also a score post that takes over the top spot for one of the boards. ^_-

If you are indeed using MAME to play, you should be able to take some snaps using F12. ^_-

Nobunaga, after 2-3 months of practice, you never noticed that you can simply hold down the A button instead of mashing "HARD?"

Man if this is one of those jokers trying to make some point about fake scores, that's real low. I don't want us to suddenly get real paranoid over here just because some outsiders came in to ruin the party.

Can one of the mods check Nobunaga's IP address? If it is a fake account, a banning is in order.

Apologies to Nobunaga if you are legit, but some assholes in the gaming forum are distrubing the peace this week.

Actually, he didn't speak about APB, but this is common strategical knowledge about any random shoot em up that comes in your mind...

But of course I hope the contrary will be proved...

Normal Course with screen mash up

Post by DEL »

The sit-down cab housing Batrider in Casino arcade currently has a bad screen flicker problem when the console is jogged. I was praying that this wouldn't happen on tonight's run, but it did, right on the Tsumuji Ninja! I got tagged during the last seconds of Colliseum losing my Medal chain, then faced Tsumuji for 1 minute with the screen flickering to invisibility  . Lost a life of course, with the knock on effect that I messed up the hovercraft, meaning no 1up, which had the knock on effect of not triggering Hayate and no doubt the same knock on effect of not triggering Sobut or Envy, despite having gained a Special Power Up earlier. I'm surprised that I didn't Knock my fist On through the screen
Image
Somehow I still ALLed it, but of course I'm far from happy and far from the score potential.
A.P.Batrider Normal Course (PCB)
DEL - 6,405,490 - ALL - Strawman (A) / Wild Snail (B) / Carpet (C)

One of these days, just one of these days, I'll have an untroubled run

Got new scores for you to add to the list, Icarus...

Normal Course:

ArrogantBastard - 4,370,240 - ALL - Strawman (A) / Gain (B) / Flying Baron (C)

Advanced Course:

ArrogantBastard - 6,153,410 - 6 - Strawman (A) / Gain (B) / Flying Baron (C)

One question - Is it better to just use Strawman for the Advanced course? It seems that the top 3 players (cigsthecat, Macaw, and DEL) use Strawman for a reason or does it make the Advanced course easier to play?
