The cheaper home version will be the Android/iPhone port for $10.why not make a cheaper home edition? it's pretty obvious that arcade games are expensive because they're not meant for the end user and they're meant to generate profit instead
Arcade and Console Versions of Games

Re: Arcade and Console Versions of Games
I don't think for a moment that these games won't end up on Steam one way or another. As I've mentioned before, whatever gaps are left on the consumer end of things will be filled by piracy if neglected. Steam makes buying easier than piracy, ergo, not releasing these games on Steam is leaving money on the table. The question is how long the delay between said releases will be, and if the EXA exclusive content will make it over. Being released on PC would open the door to fans modding the game to be virtually identical, anyways, so I'm confident it will all make its way over eventually.

sure, like pcbszak wrote:You could always wait for the inevitable price drop.
Give it a year or 2 and you will be able to buy an EXA + mobo second hand for a lot less.
are you honestly expecting anything in this scalper market to drop in price?
what cave? everyone left and they're making way more cash off weebs selling piss tea for less effortSuperPang wrote:If they don't make any money you don't get to play any more G-rev or Cave shmups in any shape or form.
everything cave is m2 only now
not an argumentSuperPang wrote:I give up.Bananamatic wrote:so you're saying that arcades have nothing to offer on their own and the sales reflect that
if arcades were as amazing as people say then the arcade version would be a success regardless
give me a simple answer, why are sales going down so much once you release a home version to the point that the home version can't be the arcade version?
why do consoles threaten arcades if arcades are so amazing?
and who is actually going to bother with a modified home version? it would take less effort to release the same game twice (on pretty much the same platform) than to change shit for the home version for no reason because exa demands exclusivesquash wrote:not releasing these games on Steam is leaving money on the table

Something can be amazing without turning a profit. In fact, that might even be the rule more than it's the exception. Fortunately the west thas seen a resurgence in arcade concepts recently that don't rely on the games to turn a profit (pairing them with bars or similar concepts). As someone who appreciates the social aspect, I think that's great. Is it hard to accept that people enjoy different things?

then you could do an amazing thing for no profit and release the game on other platforms seeing how exa is just a pcSumez wrote:Something can be amazing without turning a profit.
because everyone lives near an arcade and everyone lives in a country where the few arcades they have aren't just retro hellholes with cheap games where the newest thing they have is DDR from 2000Sumez wrote:Fortunately the west thas seen a resurgence in arcade concepts recently that don't rely on the games to turn a profit (pairing them with bars or similar concepts). everyone else gets fucked and you're supposed to think this is good for the genre and support it

I wouldn't go that far

if doujin devs actually end up making exa games it's pretty much gg
enjoy nothing but sloppy seconds if they can be arsed to make a dumbed down home version

The same type people who modify fighting games? People with the actual games who've circumvented the copy protection, had someone reverse engineer it and plug it in to the Steam port?Bananamatic wrote:and who is actually going to bother with a modified home version? it would take less effort to release the same game twice (on pretty much the same platform) than to change shit for the home version for no reason because exa demands exclusives
As for whether or not EXA exclusives will remain so forever: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fear_of_missing_out
It's basic marketing. Make people feel like they're missing out on something so they make a purchase against their better judgment.
I seriously doubt that the differences between EXA and PC/console ports will be that significant to begin with because that actually would piss off both crowds. If they do turn out to be significant, again, expect that to change as soon as some disgruntled hackers catch wind of it.
