Deathsmiles makes sense since it's Cave's most popular game, but it also doesn't make sense since it's already been released worldwide. I guess Degica and Cave are hoping that there are a ton of PC-only owners who are interested in the game...

Regarding the port, my only request is to give Arcade mode and 360 mode the exact same slowdown. It sucks having to play with shitty 240p graphics on the 360 if you want the most accurate slowdown possible, since the high-res mode runs faster. This goes for both vanilla Deathsmiles and Mega Black Label, though the slowdown in both modes of MBL is not very accurate to the PCB as far as I know. Please fix.

Not surprised, it had to be that or DDP Resurrection, or even Galuda II.
They're doing the most known games in western countries first, and since Deathsmiles is one of the more famous and consensual/convenient titles it's logical from a marketing pov, the real niche community is not the primary target this time (our preferred titles will come later if we're lucky).

EDIT: oh and is it true that the US localized port is less accurate than the JP one ? Because you can bet they will use the US region as base.

They said they were looking at bringing a third title, but I think the most interesting thing they revealed (although unintended) is that they (or Degica) have at least 4 titles in development right now (including Deathsmiles).

As it's shown, Deathsmiles is "New Game DTS" (see here). The other game is apparently "New Game IH" or "New Game IS" (see here). Not sure what the other two are. DFK?

Edit, did some digging with steamdb.

EOJ wrote:In my opinion, [Deathsmiles for JPN X360] is the most arcade accurate Cave port ever released. US version is total crap in comparison. JP X360 mode is about 70% accurate, and is not worth playing (again, US version is even worse) as it significantly restricts scoring potential.

Really? Even the patch does not fix this? It sucks... I also hope it won't be a direct port of the Xbox 360 port when it comes to PCB accuracy.

It is true that the US release removed a chunk of the arcade-accurate slowdown (they did patch at least some of it back in, though I'm not sure how close they got to where it should have been), but considering how well they responded to the issues with Mushi's Steam port I'm not terribly worried about this one, especially since they must already be aware of the complaints against the US 360 version.

The patch for the US/EU version just made the game identical to the Japanese version, which has always had differences between Arcade mode (the one with low res graphics) and 360 mode (hi-res).

Ugh, just the first DS, c'mon...>.>

Why not the second one, where it could have been a chance to translate it. (Also, would have been a perfect time to announce it, holiday wise)

But yeah, it seems to be more or less like the 360 release, and nothing from the mobile port included (would have been nice to play as Tiara, seeing as I can't run the mobile ver. anyways. >.>)

Chinese players would be really happy about this anyway, most of them(mostly students) can't afford to own a console or are restricted to own one. Aging players like me are also happy to see it for chance to express our support by buying. And souvenir to days in arcade.
The newer version of Chinese Leaderboard is here! Check it out :>

I realized it might not be a Cave game, I updated my original post regarding that.

Also an interesting fact is that Deathsmiles was added to the steamdb nearly a year before Mushi. It seems like they were originally planning to release this first, but changed their mind and decided to go with Mushi instead. Probably since the Mushi port had not been localized before.

Were there any other news than CAVE is bringing Deathsmiles to Steam ?

After all there were a lot of other prominent developers there...

I did a brief look through the #Transition2015 tag on twitter and it seems like there was a fair turnout and people had fun with the scoring competitions, but there weren't any new titles announced or even any noteworthy ports. Triangle Service's Shmups Skill Test is going to be on Steam, but I don't know if that's old news. One guy seemed especially proud about being black and gay, but perhaps that was because the hashtag for this event was ill-conceived.

Just to be on the safe side, what are the major criticisms of the US 360 version? I can check to see if they exist in the game, and recommend some tweaks if needed.

Before you get too crazy, you should remember that we also develop games for other genres too. Those other names could be placeholders for JRPGs or other doujin games as well (for the record, I'm not sure myself what those names are placeholders for).

@Blackbird
Well, to be fair, the US X360 release of DS came without slowdown (until it was patched at least), as already mentioned, so yeah, the game played at a brisk pace, and the slowdown was necessary in some spots that where the scoring was essential (and probably for dodging bullets too). For example, the Ice Palace, its very slowdown heavy for that stage originally, but when the US 360 release came out for that, it went at a normal speed. Here's a vid explaining it more through. -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HoPv1bi4FOI

Also, I wonder about the English translation though, will it still be accent heavy (for example, Casper, Follet, and Rosa.) or will it have a more faithful localization. >.>

Planned to, but the presentations were all broadcast over youtube. The rest of the event was people standing in line for merch, or trying to play games on the broken PCs. Really nothing to see. :?

About the Skills test thing, is it going to be the Shooting Love or Gesen Love version? Because there are a bit of differences between the 2.

I exaggerate. They couldn't get sticks to work, so everyone had to use game pads. Kinda unforgivable at an STG event... :(
