Potentially I have use for both RGB to component and component to RGB. I agree a general purpose, easily available RGB to component converter would be a boon to many.

@beharius
Short quesiton about the Garo: Will the final version also include an option to get 240p output from a 480i/p input? That would be absolutely amazing. Thanks!

It's just a transcoder, what goes in is what comes out.

I'm very excited about this project! I'll be using it to connect my Wii to a PVM that doesn't support component. This is exactly what I need!

Since this is a transcoder, I'd assume that lag would be pretty minimal. Have there been any precise measurements for how much lag this will introduce?

Finally it's here working flawlessly. This is the latest prototype. We are ready for production.
The pcb will be in black color and some power components will be replaced with smd variants for better performance.

Looking good!
What is the final price looking like for one of these babies?
I need one in order to finally make my NEC into the all in one ultimate retro gaming crt.

Comparison shots are very welcome!
I'd like to see if the Kryptonite is well worth it for the price you ask.

Are you sure you didn't mean to write:
If used in conjunction with a framemeister, thinking of the often proclaimed better handling of RGBs instead of YPbPr.
The transcoder won't fix a signal that is compromised at the source - it will simply sideline any issues that could possibly originate from the XRGB-mini's own YPbPr->RGBS conversion process (like the chroma-shift on the red channel bug). In particular:
Using a component (or D-Terminal) cable on the PS2 still shows some noise though, especially in dark grey areas or when the brightness setting wasn't properly adjusted. I wouldn't call it a deal breaker, but it's still annoying. 15khz from a PS2 using a RGB cable instead is noise-free.
So the general advice is to get clean RGB out of the source to the XRGB-mini wherever possible.

The GARO would still be a convenient option to connect for example an original Xbox to an XRGB-mini for 480i or directly to a monitor with a DE-15 input for 480p.

That's what I'm interested in. There has never ever been any comparsion between 480p over miniDIN vs D-terminal.

The XRGB-mini's 480p processing is "meh"† to begin with - I wouldn't get my hopes up.

I'm very well aware of what the mini is capable of doing or not. In any case that didn't answer my question.

Hey beharius, Do you know if this will hold synch with the Wii? I was surprised to hear that even the OSSC will lose synch/picture blackout with the Wii. I do think the Wii is doing something weird. Here's an example on what happens on the dashboard (fyi This is not the ossc in action but some 3rd party cable)

Great, if you need more examples then No More Heroes will black screen when you kill an enemy or maybe use Mario Kart's double dash' lightning weapon to see if it holds.

I have a PAL Wii but have seen it on NTSC software too.

One more request, beharius, can you see if the transcoding causes black crush? I have a mayflash vga cable and a fake GBS/ebay scaler and the GBS scaler crushes the black level.

Videos look good, couldn't notice any chroma shift. I take it that it works perfectly with the Wii too? Looking forward to tomorrow :D
