Look, first of all, it's not my fault they're so sleek and sexy. Secondly, how's a man, a 190 lb man, going to violate a 500 lb dolphin? I don't care if you're Greg Valentino - it's not happening. You're being ridiculous!
This is just unfair. I have nobody to talk about video games in real life, of course I am going to talk about them and gaming related material on a gaming forum.
Absolutely, and god knows I understand.

You see? A normal person when told they're raping dolphins will say "really? oh shit, sorry" let it back into the tank and move on, while the dolphin rapist will construct a lengthy novel about how they're not raping dolphins, which will include a lengthy section dedicated to how raping dolphins is physically impossible.

Let me put a little twist on your metaphor. Had it been a woman WHO MADE A GOOD GAME that got greenlit who had been outed for banging five journalists, I say there would have been no controversy. A few crude jokes, but no outrage.

Unfortunately I tried to come up with a female developer who created a great game and the best I could come up with off the top of my head was Rebecca Heineman.

An oligarch walks in and grabs nine cookies for himself.

Then he says to the white dude "Watch out for that black dude, he wants a piece of your cookie!"

The disgusting Jade Raymond photoshops in response to Ubisoft pushing her more than they'd like in the marketing of Assassin's Creed, when she personally did absolutely nothing personally besides being female?

How about you try some common fucking sense? The reaction of the gaming world to "Bioware misrepresented the ending of a game" involved rape/death threats. The fact that there's a couple assholes who threaten to kill someone every time anything happens should have nothing to do with reasonable discussion. The only sexism happening is people pretending Jack Thompson didn't get piles of rape/death threats.
Any woman in gaming is a target for anything.
Akiko Kuroda and Mari Shimazaki, off the top of my head. I was going to get more names, but I just realized that the only reason anybody gives the slightest shit about some woman getting harassed is that she's a white woman. So equality, much progressive, wow.

here's some old as hell stuff about Jack Thompson
back then, if some shithead sent death threats, people condemned the individuals who did it themselves

now some dumbass sends a death threat and it's a "problematic community", game journalists declare a war on "gamers" and we should all be apparently ashamed
no wonder people got mad

I don't give a fuck about the gender of the recipient, it's fucking vile. And it isn't just a couple of assaults, sadly the gaming 'community' has embarrassed itself in this manner time and time again.

It's not particular to gamers, it's people in general. X disagrees with Y -> X harasses / threatens Y. There's no new magic here put into the mix by gaming - it's just the internet gives the opportunity for X to be a much bigger number. People have been harassed to the point of suicide on Facebook.

People suck.

I actually posted something this evening elsewhere, that upon re-reading made me feel happy. I'm going to share it:
As for the 'gamer' label itself. I was a gamer before most of these people fighting or preaching touched a joystick, those of us who have been around that long have seen 'gamer' attacked for various reasons over the years and we're still here. And long after these latest idiots drop from view we will still be here, until it's time to turn out the lights or until we've passed into the abyss. I feel a considerable level of detachment from the whole situation, it's like a passing storm.
A disproportionate number of users on this forum fit in the above group. So those of you who can identify with the above, sit back this evening, shoot some aliens, have a drink with me and lets toast the calmer waters ahead.

"I don't know, that's just the internet," I said.

"Don't you get what that means, though?"

"Not really," I replied.

"Jesus H. You're a bright kid but you sure like to wear an asshole's costume every once in a while. It means that the future leaders of your country, I say your 'cause I'll have long decomposed, are gonna be people that have absolutely no experience with actual confrontation. Thirty years from now the President of the most powerful country in the world is going to be some little shit who sat at his computer and hurled insults three feet away from his mommy's tit like it was no big deal. I don't condone fighting, but when a human being understands that his or her actions might result in a giant fist up his or her ass, he or she learns a thing or two about acting before they speak. All I'm saying is, I'm glad I'm going to be dead. Also, happy birthday. That's why I called."

I agree, to a point. But when gaming has been attacked in times past, it wasn't the big deal it is now. It's an industry that makes as much money as any other, yet it still feels socially awkward to answer 'gaming' when asked about pastimes. I dunno, I guess you summed it up above. People. But that makes me feel defeatist about pretty much everything.

An inside perspective: http://nastythingssaidabout.wordpress.c ... -industry/

About the discussion; there will always be assholes no matter where you are or what the topic is.
Some people just have that 'quality' to them.
Doesn't mean you should let them act out as or see them as representatives of a group unless their attitudes are a projection of the group's concensus.
Pussy starved troll virgins are as little a representative of the male gender as dumb ass femi-nazis are representatives of the female gender.
That being said; the leftard feminist bullshit being constantly pushed in my face (especially here in Sweden now that the elections are up) is becoming increasingly grating.

Anonymity is a bit of a double edged sword as well.
It enables the ridiculous trolling/death threating without fear of retribution. Where normally (IRL) such wimpy twerps would quickly get punded into the ground.
But it also enables criticism of the politically correct - holy cows that if publicly criticized mean social suicide - something that is very much needed for a healthy debate climate.
I'm hoping nobody on here is retarded enough to see ol' DDR & USSR as model nations.

Lovely article pointing out the double standard. The comparison of Anita Sarkeesian to Jack Thompson is spot-on.
