You need to learn the hitbox of every object in the game if you want to chain properly. Chaining in DOJ is like doing combos in fighting games.

That is exactly and the very first thing I likenened it to once I managed to chain the first stage.

DOJ is okay~ I only played it a bit, but I found it kinda fun.

I don't want to play it seriously though, I don't like how its rank works.

Being at the wrong place, failing to destroy things or destroying things in the wrong order are what drop your chain most of the time, all of which have more to do with knowledge of positioning than knowledge of hitboxes. Except maybe the gate in stage 4.
