Yep - Pengo is awesome. I always wondered what the new version was like and now I can finally play it.

Why is it that I had never even heard of Pengo before this was announced? Seems like everyone knows and loves it. I must have had a shitty childhood...
My game is shipping from AmiAmi now, hope to live stream and show off all the mini games and modes within a few days. I'm excited for Pengo ( hope the Popcorn BGM is still in there ;3 ) and it's gonna be fun to play Shooting Skill Test again, along with CombatZeal.

Speaking of weird nuances, any ideas on how one actually clears the level on Shmups Skill Test where it spawns orbs of three different colours with writing on them, and you have to collect one of a certain type? I can never figure out which one I'm supposed to pick.
Also, what the hell is this and how do I get to it? I'm sure it's in 200X somewhere too since it's in the trailer for it but never seen it before.

IIRC (it's been a while) the opening text for the minigame tells you (in Japanese) which color orbs to grab. So you should learn to recognize 赤 = red, 青 = blue, 緑 = green.

A button-mashing game where you press button as fast as possible within a time limit. If that mini game was in 200X (360 version) it would have been found "randomly" by now. It was shown on an early event showcasing Shooting Love 2007 alongside it.
If you love the earlier Triangle Service games then you'll love this. I've not played much yet but the Action mode seems fun but it's a total pad breaker as several of the games involve button rubbing or hammering the pad / stick in a certain direction. Tons of homages (frogger, Kung Fu Master, SF2) and a blatent disregard for copyrights.
Combat Zeal looks to be where I'll be spending most of my time and the score attacks are as much fun as before. I'm loving the Asteroid stage and am currently no.1 on the board with decent room for improvement. There's loads of homages to Tri's own STGs in this mode and all of the stages play quite differently from each other. I've not fully figured them all out but I'll be heading back to it once I've typed this up.
The skills test seems to be a remix of several of the earlier skills tests modes but again I've not played it enough to see all of the differences. Generally it all seems to be a bit tougher than before but I might just be rusty.
Haven't tried Pengo yet as I never cared for it too much but it should be fun.
The best thing for me is that they don't appear to have f'd up the leaderboards like on all of their earlier games (STG Love overwrote your best score with your most recent score even if it was worse and 10th Anniversary deleted your replay if you exited a game with a worse score than the previously uploaded record)
All in all it's good stuff, unlikely to convert anyone that's not a believer but well worth getting if you have any love for STGs and ye olden arcade games
I might be the exception among everybody but I don't like at all online gaming. Local play is awesome, more over playing with friends in the same room while having pizzas and beers is an unpayable experience.
Sega fans will like the updated Tank challenge. If you make it to about three quarters of the way through you start getting attacked by Dreamcasts on tank treads. Their lids open up and spit out a VMU (with the high pitched beep the VMUs made when you turned them on) before they explode into a spread of bullets. Another cool little homage.
