At the moment I can't spend any money online for probably a week (had my current credit card killed and I'm waiting for a new one to arrive). But I'll chip in something later on.

Was listening in on the stgweekly stream and heard that donations were needed, so I gave what I could. This site is amazing and needs to stay afloat.

Server arrived, it's at work in our build room - leaving it running a few days to make sure everything is good before I start installing the OS.

Battery backed cache module in there, not quite as good as the flash backed but it'll do the job. Just need to find time now to start installing the OS.

Just spent 5 hours at work (since I'm on holiday I went in after everyone had gone home to avoid being bothered), server is now ready to be taken to the hosting centre this Friday. I named it 'revy' after the character in Black Lagoon.

It's moved to the new host.

Not sure about you guys, from where I'm viewing, it seems to run like a train now.

There will be extra tuning once I've got some stats on how things are running.

Just made it faster - now scoring 95/100 on Google's page speed analyzer ;) I'd forgotten to copy over the various Apache tunings.

Also - the new server uses 0.2A less power, so the hosting bill has come down by £8 a month :)

More tweaks - now 97/100 on the page analyzer for desktop, and 91/100 for mobile. I've been testing lots of forums in the Google page analyzer and we're beating everything (even sites which were optimised for mobile views). Ditto on the speed tester site, I've seen test results under a second for an initial page load, and under half a second for a refresh (average is about 1.2 / 0.8). That's also faster than all forums I fed to it for comparison.

I'd like to thank all who donated to make this possible. Sorry I didn't get a photo of the server - Google for a photo of a HP DL360 G6 and find one with 8 drive bays, the lower four populated. That's what we got. The old one is in the boot of my car waiting to be securely erased.

Still work to do behind the scenes, nothing in the way of log analytics yet - backups are set up and working though. I also want to fix the polls now that the test site is back in sync.

I don't think this needs to be an announcement anymore.

Could do at some point but it's not a priority - deciding which to go is tricky and the only real gain is freeing up some names people can use. The ones who have never logged in would be an easy first hit.
