Heh, I was actually expecting you to say that. It's definitely on my radar, but Tron Bonne will cost me more than I have cash for at the moment. Probably something I'll get around to in late fall.undamned wrote:Well, if you have any Megaman appetite left in you, you could hit Megaman Legends 1, 2, and Missadventures of Tron Bonne. That part's a bitch but the cross makes it a hell of a lot easier. The thing about the CV trilogy is that Simon's Quest sucks so it wouldn't be that fun anyway. Plust CV-III has it's brutal moments.Castlevania - I don't want to have to deal with the Axe Knight/Medusa corridor. That's as far as I've gotten in the first game and I don't have the patience to deal with it again. I'm also played the best parts of the rest of the series already.
Now Ghosts and Goblins is a touch motherfucker. That game will make you want to pull your hair out and break something. There's a high degree of randomness.

By the way, isn't Suikoden II insanely rare and expensive? Might as well take off the series from the list.
A shame because it's a fantastic game. Luca Blight is the greatest VG villain I ever saw.

I have a little $14 USB to PS2 joypad adapter. I like it possibly the most, but the controller is unfortunately getting a bit senile from all its use.Why does everyone think PC emulation entails not using a controller???
The real problem is when you want to develop a platformer for the PC; I was working on a randomized run and gun with a Search For Eden style skill system thingy, but got super depressed when thinking about how many people lack a pad for their PC and put it on the back burner.

I understand preferring the original hardware, but emulation and couches don't have to be separate things. A laptop is ideal if you're not being naughty and emulating post PS1 era games; you'd need a fucking megaplex to hold the arcade you can keep in a relatively compact space.- I like to sit on my couch
It's not that i can't do it on PC, just that I'd really prefer not to. As I'm a collector I'd also like to play on the original system if i can.
Connect computer to tv. Put controller into hand. Attach ass to couch.
PSX Vita: Slightly more popular than Color TV-Game system. Almost as successful as the Wii U.

It's about $100-150. I can deal with that, though it will affect my decision. Can't do $200+ for Tron Bonne.Ruldra wrote:By the way, isn't Suikoden II insanely rare and expensive? Might as well take off the series from the list.

Again, it's not that I can't, it's just I'd prefer not to. Honestly if the game is available in English I'd rather just buy it out right.BryanM wrote: I understand preferring the original hardware, but emulation and couches don't have to be separate things. @EmperorIng - Rawk. Just what I've been looking for. Thanks.
EDIT: Zork & Myst might be worth considering.
Seconded, although I don't know how well EO (and its ilk, for that matter) would fare in a marathon setting. Just one of the titles is marathon enough.BryanM wrote:Play Etrian Odyssey before Wizardry.lrdr wrote:On that note, play Wizardry.

Little known fact: Bionic Commando for the original Game Boy is amazing. Great stage design that really forces you to use the arm to its full potential.Damocles wrote:Bionic Commando

I personally think it's better all-around than the NES version. The only real fault I can find is the decreased visibility. Elite Forces is also damn good, though the player sprites are pretty ugly.Ghegs wrote:Little known fact: Bionic Commando for the original Game Boy is amazing. What's kind of lul about GnG is that I play Ghouls and Ghosts as one of my chillaxing games, since it's so stress free. Really a black sheep in the series.
With the day<->night transition sped up, it is an improvement.
There is a dialogue hacK that makes NPCs not yammer on about zombie ducks and actually tell you helpful things.burgerkingdiamond wrote:That part's a bitch but the cross makes it a hell of a lot easier. The thing about the CV trilogy is that Simon's Quest sucks so it wouldn't be that fun anyway.

If you have a guide, Simon's Quest is pretty enjoyable. The journey is a bitch if you have to waste time running around figuring things out, but it's a fun tour if you know what to do.

After spending a few hours this morning getting past Turbo Tunnel in Battletoads, I have a bit of a greater understanding for your 1CC desire. I'd love to get to the point where that game was my bitch.Ghegs wrote:Huh, surprising. After I was sufficiently indoctrinated to the 1CC mentality I've played all applicable games that way, regardless of the genre. Though I admit Mega Man games sort of get a break, mainly thanks to the password system.

silent hill series. SH2 will scare the crap out of you.
Re: Help me figure out what [Game Series] to marathon next
Didn't read the whole thread, but marathon every Final Fantasy game including 11 and 14 then kill yourself (I don't even need to tell you that last part because you'll want to anyway [and yes, you can "beat" 11 {and probably 14 as well} by completing the story missions for the main game and all the expansions... good luck with that]).

Re: Help me figure out what [Game Series] to marathon next
Alright, so I've given this a lot of though and looking at what the suggestions and my now more limited cash flow, I've decided to to Silent Hill AND Resident Evil. These two series are often compared by gamers even though they are drastically different, so I've decided I want to do both. The specific games will be:
Silent Hill Series:
Silent Hill - PSX
Silent Hill 2 (owned) - Xbox
Silent Hill 2: Born from a Wish scenario (owned) - Xbox
Silent Hill 3 (owned) - PS2
Silent Hill 4 (owned) - Xbox
Silent Hill: Origins - PS2
Silent Hill: Homecoming - Xbox 360
Silent Hill: Shattered Memories - Wii
Silent Hill: Downpour - Xbox 360
Possibly playing the HD remakes for comparisons sake.
Resident Evil Series:
Resident Evil 0 (owned) - GC
REmake (owned) - GC
Resident Evil 2 (owned) - GC
Resident Evil 3 (owned) - GC
Resident Evil CVX - GC
Resident Evil 4 - GC
Resident Evil 5 - Xbox 360 (I dread this)
May also do:
Resident Evil Gaiden (owned) - GBC
Resident Evil: Outbreak (owned) - PS2
Resident Evil: Outbreak File #2 (owned) -PS2
Resident Evil: Dead Aim (owned) - PS2 w/Guncon
Silent Hill Series:
Silent Hill - PSX
Silent Hill 2 (owned) - Xbox
Silent Hill 2: Born from a Wish scenario (owned) - Xbox
Silent Hill 3 (owned) - PS2
Silent Hill 4 (owned) - Xbox
Silent Hill: Origins - PS2
Silent Hill: Homecoming - Xbox 360
Silent Hill: Shattered Memories - Wii
Silent Hill: Downpour - Xbox 360

Resident Evil Series:

Do you have someone to play RE5 with? Because the AI is completely useless and will use up all ammo and healing items you give her.

I played RE5 solo and don't remember that being an issue at all ... and actually I don't remember giving her anything, I think she picked stuff up on her own?Ruldra wrote:Do you have someone to play RE5 with? I may also have played on the easiest difficulty, I really can't remember.

I've played it solo and beaten it in co-op. Solo was annoying, but not impossible. I am not sure how I'll play this time.shmuppyLove wrote:I played RE5 solo and don't remember that being an issue at all ... and actually I don't remember giving her anything, I think she picked stuff up on her own?Ruldra wrote:Do you have someone to play RE5 with? It's very depressing to be notified that the world is missing out on new run and gun game X because some people are philistines who do not own usb gamepads. You should keep working on your game and anyone that doesn't have a pad can go suck an egg.BryanM wrote:

For Pathways, you'd need an old Mac, or more likely, a "Classic Mac" emulator. At this point, it's not like it'd make a difference to play on OS X, Windows, or Linux.njiska wrote:Marathon - While I appreciate the irony, I do not have a Mac to play these on and I really want to play them on a real Mac. Re: Help me figure out what [Game Series] to marathon next
The main reason I have this restriction is that I have access to all the games and an old PowerMac to play them on. I just have to get the roommate to bring it here from his parents place. If the options there i don't see why it shouldn't be taken.Stormwatch wrote:For Pathways, you'd need an old Mac, or more likely, a "Classic Mac" emulator.
