Not long ago I probably would have been asking you for whatever "in" you have at your school, considering how long I was looking for just such a position with no bites (and once our new governor basically declared war on the teaching profession I more or less gave up and started over)...my teaching license from the state has probably expired by now, heh. Best o' luck to you, teaching ain't easy work.

I've been unemployed for almost a year after losing my job as an meter tech/bill collector for the local power company. I get by easy just being a jack of all trades/handyman type these days but am moving to Louisiana in the next few weeks to pursue a career in art. The closer I am to New Orleans the bigger my opportunity.

I've only been able to afford working with chalks and pencils over the last year but am pretty adept at a wide range of styles and can adapt to any medium I'm given. I'm hoping to open a small design business one day when I have all the proper equipment.

Absolutely. When I feel confident in my portfolio I was planning on approaching as many publishers as possible.

Awesome pic Cface! I actually just started my first children's book. Fuck finding a publisher, use iBooks, wave of the future!

In regards to work, here is the flyer for a gig I landed today.

maxlords wrote:I assemble cars in a modern automotive factory...and hate it. It pays very very well though. I have been in the automotive assembly profession (unskilled labor pool) for about 7 years now. I think I'd get more job satisfaction as a prostitute....or selling flooring. I'm kind of curious how many people actually ENJOY their profession. I've yet to have ever worked many jobs ever that I've liked.
Dude, once I refer to it as "work," I'll immediately hate it. I'm not crazy enough to mix work with what I enjoy because if I ever burn out on work, I can always turn to whatever I enjoy. Um, I am a bit of an arrogant, conflicted (contradicting) bastard at work in the sense that I hate work, but I enjoy being right/doing things right. To some extent, I also like being considered as useful by our customers, colleagues, and even admins. One of the main things is that, although I hate work, I do very much like the people I work with and most of the customers we have are professionals (e.g., engineers, [hydro]geologists, microbiologists, architects, lawyers), as well as people who have been working in the field for longer than I've been alive (e.g., elected officials, business owners, real estate peeps, inspectors and regulators, etc). So, I rarely ever deal with unpleasant people or full-blown idiots 8)

I'll support it.

As for me, I'm currently working in the wide wonderful world of credit card customer support. Not fancy, but it pays well enough.

I work for an investor relations consultancy, which means I help companies deal with pesky and demanding shareholders and help shareholders deal with the corrupt management of companies. Really what they all want is more money.

Update:

Inherited the family B(ed)&B(reakfast) from my late parents and grandparents, turned it into a very profitable business. All we needed was to cut down prices, do a bit of networking with the other B&B's and local pubs/restaurants, and voila', we're always booked.

Then, I obtained a Lecturership in Sweden, very likely to obtain a different lecturership in NZ and Hungary (...each in very different subjects). I will do the final interview for those guys that find you stuff on the intarweb, the 3rd of May.

My life has been a roller-coaster, of late.

Most conversations at school end with me putting an imaginary gun in my mouth and staring at whoever is talking to me, then pulling the trigger when they stop talking.
