***note on -5V input: not all boards use a -5V input.

Frogger, Gyruss, and Time Pilot do.

Track and Field and Hyper Sports don't.

This is no big deal, EXCEPT that some boards may get "confused" if you send them -5 on the usual -5 pin (ie: HyperSports).

So if you plug one of these boards into a standard Konami cabinet and get strange things on the screen,
try disconnecting the -5 as your first step in troubleshooting:
So I just took it into account.
Thanks for the info. Maybe there's hope still for my Time Pilot. :)

Bencao, looking to order the Capcom and Tekhan adapters but couldn't find the Tekhan adapter in the shop. Did I miss it or is it not available yet?

No, Sega System 16 PCB is coming these days. And then I`ll do the next batch. I want to do the Falcon for Crazy Kong ;) and perhaps there is place for BB as well.

Hi,

I`ve currently the namco and falcon ones somewhere on my desk. For the namco only the harness is a todo. The falcon ones teases me ;)

I`ve shifted this project for the MAK Strike and SLG-in-a-box. I think 2013 I`ll give the IREM ones a try and perhaps the Bubble Bobble.

Hey, just making the Bubble Bobble Adapeter. I was looking for the pinout and found this

http://www.andysarcade.net/personal/tec ... ootleg.txt

Code: Select all

    SOLDER SIDE PARTS SIDE
             -----------
         GND | A | 1 | GND
         RED | B | 2 |
       GREEN | C | 3 | BLUE
        SYNC | D | 4 |
   speaker - | E | 5 | Speaker +
             | F | 6 |
        +12v | H | 7 | +12v
             | L | 8 |
             | K | 9 |
             | L | 10 |
        COIN | M | 11 | TILT
     START 1 | N | 12 | START 2
             | P | 13 |
             | R | 14 |
    P1 Right | S | 15 | P2 Right
     P1 Left | T | 16 | P2 Left
         GND | U | 17 | GND
         GND | V | 18 | GND
         +5v | W | 19 | +5V
         +5v | X | 20 | +5V
   P1 Bubble | Y | 21 | P2 Bubble
     P1 Jump | Z | 22 | P2 Jump
             -----------
Contrary to this the Pinouts of the Taito Classics on Klov ie. http://www.arcade-museum.com/pinouts-game/7700.html Connector G do not contain the voltage lines. Does the Bubble Bobble and other Taito Classics games support the voltage lines

Pin w, x , 19, 20 for 5V
Pin h, 7 for 12V

?

Irem one is done and in production.
Cheers

This is the official TAITO one taken from the technical manual of Bubble Bobble:

Notice the 13V! However the front page of the manual says: +13V +/- 1.0V :D

What do you want to measure ? The pinout is as detailed in the official manual. Do not skip connector T as it powers the video PCB.

Should arrive end of january, then some testing. So I guess I publish it in the two first weeks of february.

There some things I`d like to know. First it`s always better not to develop blind for sure. Then, are the mentioned pins
Pin w, x , 19, 20 for 5V
Pin h, 7 for 12V
connector G

connected to Connector T and H? If yes, would it be possible to just connect connector G for powering up a Taito Classics PCB? Therefore I`d like to make some tests.

I can check these on my original BB maybe later today.

It's important to discriminate between original and bootleg. Ideally your connector should be tailored for the original version.

I am pretty sure that G & T only share ground on the original BB. H is the power to the video PCB so it shares voltages with T. Many adapters skip connector H but this causes the voltage to drop on the video PCB leading to intermittent resets.

Yeah, I was fearing such issues for the voltage distribution. Sometimes old connectors itself are the cause of voltage drops. I`ve done a Pole Position Cockpit, Asteroids and Battle Zone Restoration. All of them had connector issues with voltage drop from 0,2V to 1V. btw, do you have a pic from a BB PCB installed in a dedicated Cab?

Good to see that you're on top of the voltage issue :D

IIRC BB was only distributed as kits from TAITO in Japan and ROMSTAR in USA. There were no dedicated cabinets produced.

I checked the ROMSTAR manual and it has the same pinout as the TAITO one. But I will check this evening to make sure.

There are no voltages present on the G connector.

It's hard to measure on the PCB since +5V and 0V have very little resistance

I powered up the PCB without the T connector and measured a voltage drop from connector H 5V to connector T 5V of 0.3V.

On the front page of the technical manual the specs for the PCB are listed as:

Code: Select all

+5V 5.0A
12V 1.0A
-5V 0.5A
+13 1.5A

Hey, thanks :)

Just for info.

One could measure the 5V line by taking one the TTLs. Measure pin14 against the fingers pins with diode or continuity test on the DMM.

Odd, there should be no low resistance between Pin 7 GND and Pin 14 VCC. ;)

You're welcome.

Here is a picture of the video PCB:

http://home.online.no/~tjaberg/bublbobl ... bottom.jpg

If I put the DMM in "beep" mode and measure between A & V on the T connector it will beep as an indication of low resistance (sadly I did not note the value). This is 5V and GND. However the PCB works 100%.
