It makes me sad to see TLB cry, so I'll take a stab at it. NOW KEEP IN MIND - I dont know dick about Milestone, and know even less about this khdn group. I dont know who the members are, and I dont know their work. Keep this in mind in case I make any retarded errors that don't make any sense. Basically what it says:

K.H.D.N. is going on indefinite hiatus. The group is no longer able to work together because of someone named "Roger" (who is this?) Mr. Hayashi (is he the leader?) dismissed this guy Roger due to his incompatibility with the other members. Mr. Nagata says that this Roger person was never a real part of the group and this dismissal shouldn't affect much. K.H.D.N. is taking an indefinite hiatus to rethink their compositions, direction, and what they will be doing in the future. Apologies to the fans, and thanks for your continued support.

Who is "Roger"?? :? Sounds like a real dickhead that no one likes..

Oh, maybe not him.

Ok, well...Thanks to Rancor for shedding all that light on this situation! Perhaps we'll see some new, re-inspired, maybe milestone-independent khdn work earlier on down the line than we think!

For those unaware, Kou Hayashi and Daisuke Nagata are a dynamic duo of ballin' beats, this being a classic example.

Thanks for providing a translation of the situation rancor, really appreciate it. I really love Milestone games. Me and Akraten talk about and play Illvelo: Illmatic Envelope quite a bit. Here's hoping to more Milestone shmups in the future. (I love the music and hope K.H.D.N. will continue in the future).

Here's an interview with K.H.D.N. that I found online:

So who is Roger? Anybody know? I assume that's the name (ロジャー)

Sounds like he got between Hayashi and Nagata, and now they need some cooling off time.

As NTSC-J said earlier, the tone of the message is pretty nasty. Sounds like some bad shit went down... Unusual that they would specifically name this third person, and that he is the sole reason for their disbanding. I'd be interested to know the full story behind this.

edit: Seems we're not the only ones. Japanese fans are wondering who Roger is as well....

I enjoy Radilgy's aesthetics, music, and storytelling methods.

The gameplay itself... well, no one's perfect. It does have charms though.

Also, Alfa System are fine. They do lots of 3rd party work for Namco on the Tales (PSP) games and stuff, not to mention Phantasy Star Portable.

Thanks a lot rancor. I wasn't aware that K.H.D.N. was composed of anyone but the eponymous composers. They've certainly been the only two to compose for MileStone shooters so far.

How many more hints do you need until you accept the inevitable truth? They are going the way of the Irem (dodo).

Warashi already silently kicked the bucket, it was inevitable that another bottom-tier JPN shmup developer would soon follow. Can't say I was ever a fan of their stuff, but R.I.P.

At least Triangle Service has a new game coming. I'd consider them the best surviving "bottom-tier" shmup developers by far.

This is sad news.

As a big fan of Radilgy and Radilgy Noa Classic Mode on 360 I'm dissapointed that we won't see anymore killer shooters from these guys.

And Milestone destroys Warashi and Triangle Service with it's hands tied behind it's back. Or it did, anyway

I've noticed that a lot of Japanese game companies go out with a whimper this way, with not even a single "thanks for your support" message or any other sort of acknowledgement from the staff. SNK is the only company I know of who made a big show of their goodbyes, before they were rescued by Playmore. Why is this? I assume it's considered shameful whenever someone fails in their business ventures (even if it was the economy's fault), and the deep-seated cultural honor code keeps those involved silent. They could also be worried about their families being shamed.

I remember when Flight Plan (the Summon Night series' developers) folded, their website just went down one day without any warning, and their office building was actually demolished by whoever bought it. Warashi was the same way: site online one day, offline the next.

Irem will probably be the same way, unless they survive to do a huge April Fool's Day Goodbye extravaganza on the site next year.

Not sure if you included me, but while I wasn't a fan (even though I bought some of their games) I'm really not "a hater", I was just being realistic. It was surprising they lasted as long as they did, with so few releases.

Much like G.Rev, MileStone did not rely on their actual releases for the majority of their income. They did a lot of minor coding side-projects for other companies.

That said, I think they should have tried to push more into merchandising (read: they needed to make more stuff with Tadayo on it).

iPhone ports of Radirgy and Illvelo would have been a worthwhile venture. Of all the shmups out there, those are by far the most aesthetically suited to a phone.

It's interesting to consider that both Skonec and Milestone's final games were Nintendo DS shovelware. Also, effin' ridiculous that the US releases of Radirgy GC (on track to become the final Gamecube release) and Illvelo Wii were BOTH canceled. I can't imagine they were too happy about that.

And yeah, they really underexploited Tadayo, the only Milestone character I've ever seen fanart of. She should have become the company mascot.

I guess I really need to get the Milestone Shooting Collection 2 now for the Wii, since it has just about every major Milestone release on it.

I've played Chaos Field, Radirgy, and Karous. Chaos Field is the only one I felt was really worth my time, the others feel like glorified flash/doujin games. Chaos Field is still pretty doujinnish with the blatant Silvergun/Ikaruga influences, and I don't like that only the Type 1 ship is worth using at all.

Most folks on this forum consider any STG developed by not-Cave to be 3rd rate. The numbers don't lie.

I just ordered the Milestone Collection 2. I'm excited to play the Category: Retro game Arcade Shooter Illvelo. I play just 4 fun. 8)

I love how crazy and ridiculous these games are compared to most other spaceship shooting games. Totally lame that it seems there's fewer companies making these kinds of games all the time.

I agree. It's a really fun game. The production values on Milestone games, honestly, are pretty bad. The graphics are often pretty ugly, and there's too much jittery slowdown for what the game's actually doing. But Radilgy makes up for it. Karous, not so much IMO. But both are better than Chaos Field, which seemed very unfocused to me.

Is there a way of playing this on a North American Wii? I really want to play both Noa and Illvelo.

It's really sad that these guys are out of business. I think the sun has set on shooters. If you look at the original shooters that came out this gen, it's nothing compared to last gen, which was nothing compared to the gen before it. It's really slowed to less than a trickle.

Yes, and you don't have to pick up a single tool. All Wii's can be very easily softmodded now.

The 360 version of Radirgy Noa has zero slowdown, even when there's a million objects on screen. I don't know how that compares with the Naomi original (or the Wii version for that matter).

I'm sure the 360 one is a good version. I'd expect it to be higher resolution, too. If it did have slowdown still, I'd be worried-- the 360 is a full generation ahead of Naomi!

Radirgy is awesome, even outclassing its own sequel. Karous is a bit tedious.
Maybe it's just because I'm not a 'bullet hell' guy, but I found both Karous and Radirgy (via the Wii Shooting Collection) to be too chaotic and I have a hard time keeping up with what's going on. Neither has particularly attractive design either, so that hampers them. I do quite enjoy a few rounds of Chaos Field, however, it's a pretty entertaining game despite its flaws. I have been digging on Chaos Field since the GameCube release, but haven't been overly impressed w/ other Milestone titles I've played. Could I be missing something, or does anyone have a suggestion for me to "see through the chaos" in Karous or Radirgy?

If you are watching a chaos on the screen, you are playing the wrong way. Karous and Radirgy are all about canceling bullets.

I really love Chaos Field. I don't have much to add to the conversation, haha. But I do think that game is amazing and the music is awesome. I own Radirgy and have played Karous in the past, but haven't spent enough time with either to form solid opinions.
