Not sure why I'm still defending games reviewers, since I disagree with them most of the time, but anyway...

A lot of the review scores quoted above wouldn't have been for the original arcade versions, but console ports. You might think that DoDonPachi deserves a 10, but what about the PS1 version? Raiden might be a classic - so does Raiden Trad on the SNES deserve a 10? Or Ibara on the PS2? Can you give a game a 'perfect' score in the knowledge that it's not the best version of the game available?

The irony is that something like Guwange gets mainly positive reviews when it's released (I think it's got about an 80 average on Metacritic) but some users here were saying that it was unplayable due to the screen settings. I'm not sure if there has been a port that everyone agreed was excellent (possibly Ketsui or Futari?) so even on here there'll be dissent.

But yeah, it's all a bit off-topic. Hopefully Pink Sweets and MMP will get decent ports...

Well, arguably none of them are perfect because they are good in different ways, and have different shortcomings that make universal agreement a bit tricky. Futari has a load of absolutely fantastic screen settings from scanlines and dot-by-dot zooming to input lag and matrix-like filters, and is all-around swell, but the slowdown accuracy isn't as good as some of the other ports. Ketsui has what is arguably the most user-friendly interface (instant restart that doesn't invalidate your score/replay is something every port should have had since I don't know when), one of the best Arrange modes known, and the main game is pretty much perfectly ported (aside from the fact that host systems run with a 1/60 difference in speed, which may or may not be an issue for you), but there are only two modes which may seem low these days. Cave's own ports don't fare very well in that regard: most of them aren't as accurate as 5pb.'s (DOJBLEX and Ketsui), and none of them have such extensive settings as M2's (Futari).

Guwange is probably the worst port yet in regards to user interface (it's very clunky, completely unsuited for non-16:9 screens, and barely lets you change anything at all), but as far as I'm concerned the main game is ported faithfully, plus there are two more modes to satisfy your needs.
