Looking forward to hearing about possible extras, though I'll be perfectly happy just to get the arcade ports.

I've only played a few credits of the pork, and was looking forward to giving Pink Sweets a try - until I read the strategy thread. Crikey... not sure about all that - seems pretty extreme, maybe it will click once I start playing.

Perhaps rather than add ridiculous scoring mechanics to the arrange modes (as has been the case with the other cave ports) they might pull this one back a bit. I thought Ibara arrange was OK on the PS2... Maybe they will make a more conventional version (and piss off all the fans of the original). Just a thought as I'm in the dark about what Pink Sweets actually plays like.

I'd think a Novice mode, similar to what was done for Futari and Espgaluda II, would be a good idea, as it is pretty extreme for the console crowd.

Who are these soft console-centric gamers that you're constantly berating? We get it, you think Pink Sweets is hard. But really, is anyone going to buy a J-360, import a Cave shmup, turn it on and be saddened/confused when it turns out to be difficult? Who buys games like this to focus on a Novice mode? Seems like pure arrogance from an arcade collector. I read much of the same stuff before Ketsui came out and that game was very manageable, even by my humble console-loving standards. I say bring the pain!

It won't. Pink Sweets is proof once and for all that Yagawa isn't right in the head.

Still good times though, don't get me wrong. And even if the main game sends you into a blind rage, there's a hidden score attack mode that's worth the price of admission on its own.

Wow, you certainly read a lot into what I wrote! I meant making the game more accessible to the wider audience of console gamers would be a good idea given what a bad rap this game has gotten even from veteran shmup players. Novice mode is meant to introduce new players to the game mechanics without making it a frustrating experience...how you interpret this as an insult is your own doing.

Seriously, where is this hostility coming from? I own/play all these on console as well, specifically for the practice and extra modes!

I don't have a problem with novice being there. Personally I think it fails to prep anyone for the real experience or scoring in the normal modes due in part to the vast difference in the difficulty curve between the two modes. So if someone out there gains benefit from or likes the mode why not. I don't think the presence of novice mode automatically emasculates console gamers.

I play Futari's novice mode whenever I just want to zone out and play a shooting game but am too tired to focus on actual survival.

For some reason I find myself curious about Pink Sweets, probably because it's been compared to Recca here and there. But looking at the mechanics it seems like a game I just wouldn't get into. There is that Score Attack mode, though...is it like Plasmo's guide says, just Stage 6 with a time limit and infinite lives or is there any changes to the mechanics or scoring tricks there?
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

These are two of the most hyped cave shooters ever. I've heard from people they're amazing, and others have told me they're style over substance. Seems to me they're just mystified since most people haven't played them.

Guess I'll find out when I buy the disc.

All the accessibility arguments are kinda tiresome im yet to see any proof that they help anyone get into this genre other than giving people a false sense of achievement and still giving up on the harder stuff to just keep reverting to easier modes .Most people on this forum got into this genre without novice rubbish modes end of the day if someone's gonna stick with this there the kinda person who loves challenge and doesn't quit easily in the first place.

In fairness, most people here probably also got into the genre before it became as insulated and dependent/focused upon the "hardcore" as it's been in recent years, and probably didn't devote themselves to the tougher shmup specimens before cutting their teeth on some less demanding ones.

I am not a fan of Pink Sweets. I have invested some time into both games, and Muchi Muchi Pork is the best game of the two IMO.

As someone who really enjoyed Ibara (tough as balls as it was), I'm really looking forward to getting to play Pink Sweets. MMP coming along for the ride is fantastic as well.

That really is a great point. A lot of self-proclaimed "hardcore" modern console gamers would get their asses handed to 'em by shmup titles which I guess is part of the reason that some of these same players "don't get" shmup fans. I'll admit that the first shmup I ever really enjoyed as a young kid was Life Force on NES, and the reason why was because the 30 lives actually allowed me to see the whole game. I didn't even play these games in arcades because I didn't have the money to play for very long  .

According to Siliconera, the LE will include two soundtrack CDs and a DLC voucher for some sort of mixed-up "festival" mode - does that sound accurate?

All first-print editions (both SE and LE) will have DLC card unlocking a Matsuri version of MMP with PS bosses, and the LE will also have those CDs you've mentioned.
