Heres a list of differences in character design I've already spotted:

Otomedius Excellent (X) changes:
Note: all changes are beyond “Gorgeous” versions – since Konami is apparently trying to forget the arcade version existed.
Overall: Character design is slightly “Softer”
Change in sleeves, topped with “G” Organization logo instead of the gigantic frills.
Confirmed: Rear ends are actually covered by something that’s the same color as their outfits! OMG!
The big one: Emon 5 is just gone. Presumably replaced by either Kokoro Belmont or that new chick in pink.
System and core: I didn’t see any scan lines in the trailer. Odd.
Aoba Anoa: slightly larger chest. Brighter shade of blue overall – Really noticeable on the Eyes. Change to necktie, significantly shorter.
Erul Tron: Much of the same as Anoa, larger chest, bright blue eyes all of the sudden, although necktie length did not change.
Diol Twee: She’s much softer. Chest got larger (somehow). Her butt and thighs got huge in comparison to what they were in the last iteration of the game. In the trailer she’s playing with her… ahem… Tentacle. Something she hasn’t done before. Her hair is wavier.
Madoka: GLOVES! She now has twinbee’s Iconic gloves! Shorts instead of the skirt!
Tita Nium: Slightly larger chest (Seeing a TREND here.) She’s shown in the trailer playing with her tuft of nonconforming hair. Wind does not usually blow that way, she’s doing that. Bigcore System eye patch seems less detailed – may be a video effect. The Blue Green color she used to have seems to have shifted more to blue. Might also be a video effect.
Esmerelda: Eyes got bigger. So she no longer is the ONLY Character in the entire game with normal sized eyes. Chest is also bigger… what else is new. Also a bigger butt. Tie is longer – extends into cleavage. She no longer has this look of extreme disapproval on her face in the trailer. Honestly she’s kinda cute now.
Poini Coon: Eye color changed. Brighter. She however is the 2nd exception to the chest expansion rule – just as flat as ever.
Administrator: Very slight – if any.

As was the original, and Gorgeous. They had simulated scan lines in various places.

I live in the United States and work in a sandwich shop. today is July 4th. Today, I had plenty of free time. I frame by framed that video? Why? Because I was supremely bored out of my mind. After I finished doing that, I still had 2 to 3 hours to burn before work let out where I did nothing.

True story on that second part, also, Thread Title is bogus.

True, this thread is confusing.

I thought Otomedius G will be released in the US as Otomedius Deluxe and the sequel is called Otomedius Excellent and will be jp only?

Otomedius G isn't coming out in the US, but Otomedius Excellent (the sequel) is, just to set the record straight.

I see, so the game will be named Otomedius Excellent in JP but Otomedius Deluxe in the US?
Are there any confirmed release dates? Will it come out at the same time for both regions?

Last I checked their site's search function still couldn't find this (even though you can reserve the thing in-store), but here is Gamestop's listing for the game - they have its name as "Otomedius Excellent" and put the release date as September 7th. Whether this holds up remains to be seen, but that's about as close to an "official" source as we've got.

No. Konami confirmed that this game will be called "Otomedius Excellent" in EVERY REGION THEY'RE RELEASING IT IN. Thank god.

I keep hearing whispers of September 8th, didn't hear it from me though. Considering Gorgeous though we'll probably see it in November or so.

Its weird that there's nowhere to even pre-order this when the release is supposed to be within the next few months. I remember pre-orders for Ketsui were up in like, November 09 for the April 10 release. The Belmont chick is super cute and the samurai girl looks really cool. I'm pretty excited to play this, just to have more games to play (the last quarter 2010 is looking REALLY sad for games) and if the JP version comes out ANY sooner than the US one or has ANY extra content or pack-ins, I'm getting that one. Japan's packaging is usually about 400 times better and every shmup I have on 360 except Senko no Ronde and RFA are Japan region, so it just looks weird to have US spines among all my Japan ones. Speaking of that, damn, I wish the Japan version of RFA wasn't so expensive, I want that DVD.

And dieKatze88: I have no idea what you're talking about, from that trailer, EVERY character has a smaller chest than they did in the first game.

This is probably one of those games I'll wait untill I see it on the shelf to buy it. I'm not too fond of Gradius, but I'm a sucker for new shmups, toss in chicks and a paradious style, and I'm down.

It isn't showing up on Gamestop.com for some reason, but you can pre-order it in-store now. I paid mine off in full last week when I picked up Deathsmiles.

I was talking about the Japanese one, actually, we all know American retailers put up pre-orders for games 9 months before the game actually comes out normally. Halo: Reach pre-orders were up at GameStop in February and it comes out in November :D You could get a girl pregnant and have a child in between the time you pre-order a game in the US and when it actually comes out.

They just put up whatever has been officially announced up for pre-order and usually just make up a release date until the company actually says something specific about it later, then they update the pre-order system. I had originally pre-ordered Samurai Shodown Sen way back in like late Summer of '09 and it was supposed to come out in November. Then it got delayed til January. Then February. Then March. Then they officially announced it was cancelled until a new publisher picked it up, and at this point I just told them give my money back and I'll make a decision to purchase when it actually comes out. So they just had my money sitting in their system for 6 or 7 months for no reason.

That's Gamestop's whole plan. You wouldn't believe unless you've worked there how many people never return for their reservations. Gamestop makes absurd money just off the interest on those little bits of money sitting in their bank account. By the time Halo 2 had come out, they had some people with it on reserve for over a year, and had already made so much in interest that it ruined the whole system forever more. That was the turning point at which Gamestop got really aggressive with reservations and started pressuring employees and cutting hours on underperformers, which spawned the whole frantic attitude poor GS employees have now to get those five dollar bills from every person that walks in.

There was a list of people who still hadn't canceled their preorders a while back, and I remember there being at least 150 names on it, so, figuring 150 * 5 minimum, You'd be good to bet 750 dollars at least ;)

Really though. The guys at my local gamestop are cool about it. They understand that I don't preorder often and when I do preorder, its often only to get the bonus. They know I have Otomedius Gorgeous and they actually mentioned the existence of Excellent when I went to pick up Deathsmiles, and I told them that Konami hasn't announced enough yet for me to preorder. they do understand, mainly because as soon as Konami asks me to buy another 300 dollar controller - I will, and I'll do it from the Gamestop employee that badgers me the least.

That might also be why I drive 3 gamestops away to go to a gamestop. Hmm.

Yeah, I"ve known this is the idea, I have a few friends who work(ed) there. And that is why I pre-ordered SSS to begin with, it was supposed to have a pre-order bonus, then it gets cancelled 6 months later. Its quite a joke, that's the only incentive for pre-ordering anymore is either very limited edition or pre-order bonus.

Plus the hope that you'll actually get a sealed copy of something rather than a sticker-strewn display box and a dusty back-of-the-drawer disc (which is still not sure thing even if you reserve).

Very true, how hard is it to just rotate stock boxes with printed art? It is a total scam to gut a copy and have the guts to call it "New or Sealed" with just a simple circle of sticky tape after repacking the box.

I actually asked a guy who works at GS that same question once, and according to him they wouldn't have enough room for all the "stock" boxes along with the "actual" ones...not sure if this is an equally-pressing problem for all stores, but at least it's somewhat plausible.

I worked there years ago, and back in the day they would have us at least shrinkwrap the guts. Used games too. This was back in the Dreamcast era. Then they decided the shrinkwrap was too expensive and took away our machine. We even used to have boxes of new jewel cases to fix up used games when they came in. When I left there in '04 it was becoming policy to throw out any boxes for used GBA games, and only sell the carts regardless of condition. Sad that they've thrown away their concern for the customer in the name of profit.

Plausible for sure, can't remember the name of this old video game store that use to exist at my local mall during the 16-bit era through the 64-bit era, but they had a good idea. Their solution to keep from gutting copies was new games were kept in the back, and had double sided cards (one side having the cover of the game and the other having the back cover) along the shelves. Used games were kept in the packaging and displayed in a see through glass cabinet near the cashier desk (Gamestop does this with just their portables). Although I can see the issue with how much used Gamestop probably has at any given time this solution may not be practical. Left an impression on me as a kid though :).

I'd believe it. And it's why I don't even walk into a Gamestop any more. If I can't find it elsewhere, I just order it from somewhere online. I love walking into a store knowing exactly what I want, yet I have to endure being asked if I want to participate in promotions for the hundredth time or if I want to pre-order something that is so far from release that I'll probably be dead by the time that it drops. Fuck that place, seriously.

I feel for anyone that works there.

I've been to a few local ones that don't press their employees to be annoying robot assholes. The filthiest store locations seem to always be in malls.

I got pissed at a Gamestop the other night because it took me almost 20 minutes to get to the head of the check-out line to buy a few used PSP games. Every fucking person in front of me in line was some shady asshole unloading disorganized heaps of used 360 games and DS chips and giving the poor clerk a hard time about the pittance the store had to offer for that used shit. How fucking ignorant and lazy does one have to be to not use Amazon for that shit and then have the gall to complain about the reduced return.

On the whole, I think the worst thing about Gamestops are the experiences of being around the garden-variety American game consumers. It's always those "worst people in the world" sort of XBLA douchebags or burnt-out parents who consistently fail to wrangle their inconsiderate and braindead kids.

Oh well. I bought a near-mint copy of Gradius III & IV there yesterday for $4.50. You won't run across those at Bestbuys or Walmarts.

I've found that if you frequent a store and the people there get to know the type of gamer/customer you are they start skipping the "used car salesman" garbage, either due to the fact that come to respect you a bit more than the usual clueless types they deal with or else they just figure out that they're wasting their time.
But at what cost your dignity, sir?
Dignity means nothing in the face of the Bacterion threat!...especially when you get a chance to resist them at a reduced price.
