Completely uninterested in this. Although that reminds me I only have the old iPhone 3G

Re: Espgaluda 2 iphone - its out
Thanks for that. That method worked perfectly on my iPod touch 3rd gen.dmauro wrote:There is no need to wait for a patch for the iPod touch. Do it yourself quite easily:

After playing it all I can say is that it is way better than I expected it to be. I expected it to be good but not this good! Love the iPhone mode. My only complaint is that it is that it can be hard to hit the 4 buttons along the side if you are using them. The character moves very precisely much to my surprise. I find myself just rolling my thumb back and fourth if I need to make small movements.
So I lied. I have another complaint. That is that this game drains your battery like crazy! At least it does on my iPod touch. I'm guessing the iPhone has a larger battery.
All in all definitely worth the $9, even though I got it on sale for $5.
Re: Espgaluda 2 iphone - its out
I keep accidentally hitting the buttons when I'm using awakening touch in iPhone mode which often either causes me to exit awakening or to turn my shot off resulting in death when I come back out of awakening.
edit: Protip - Don't play this game when your battery is running low, which is most of the time. I still haven't found a way to turn off that 20% warning short of jailbreaking this thing (thanks Apple).

1UP has reviewed this game. They love it.
1UP wrote:OK, it's impressive, nails your principles, blah blah -- but is it really heads-and-tails above all other iPhone shooters? In the grand scheme of things, yes. There's definitely many interpretations of shoot-em-up for the platform, and I'm also enjoying fresher stuff like Sketch Nation Shooter as much as the next guy, but the bar has been raised. If you like shoot-em-ups and have the hardware for it, Espgaluda II is practically a required purchase.
Is it worth $4.99? For the absolute best arcade-style shooter on iPhone for the forseeable future, yeah, it's the definition of a steal. In fact, it probably still will be when when it goes back to its "real" price of $8.99.
Re: Espgaluda 2 iphone - its out
Played this on my friend's iPhone at work and was very impressed. I really thought it would be a disaster, but it translated very well. I had a blast playing it. For me, nothing compares to the tactile feel of a joystick and buttons though.
Re: Espgaluda 2 iphone - its out
Just made 4th in Tateha iPhone mode with a score of 319,930,005. iPhone mode is a milk heavy mode, with the stage 3 midboss being worth about 50M. There's probably more milking that can be done, but I haven't found it yet. My OpenFeint name is exarion as well, add me if you wish. This is an insanely good port, and it has sold 4000+ already.

Will this allow it to play on a regular 3G iPhone as well?dmauro wrote:There is no need to wait for a patch for the iPod touch. Do it yourself quite easily:

Re: Espgaluda 2 iphone - its out
I think this is an incredible piece of work. It controls like a dream, looks awesome and packs in a fair amount of challenge. A bargain at its current price point.

No. It will let you run the game, but the game will just crash upon boot up, from what I hear.Dave_K. wrote:Will this allow it to play on a regular 3G iPhone as well?dmauro wrote:There is no need to wait for a patch for the iPod touch. Do it yourself quite easily:

Played this today. It's absolutely amazing, the best handheld cave shmup by far. Makes Ketsui DL seem kind of basic by comparison, and it's a $5 game. Unreal.

Re: Espgaluda 2 iphone - its out
I'm on OpenFeint as Vexations, but I suspect I won't be catching up on score anytime soon (I'm barely hitting 12M using Tateha in arcade...) On the other hand, even with my limited shmupping skills a 1CC does actually look possible, so I'll probably be sticking with it for a while.
If there's one issue I have with it, it's that I keep hitting the little resize button the iPad sticks on the corner of iPhone apps which seems to also pause the game at inopportune moments. Other than that, I'm surprised how well the control works. Also, can someone explain a little bit better how the iPhone mode works?

Wait! Is it out in the UK now? I couldn't find it, but I think that was yesterday. [EDIT: I see - it's been out in the UK all along, but as I was accessing the App Store through an incompatible Touch, so it wasn't giving me the option. Booo!]
Funny story about this is that my work mate got in touch with Cave's new English language Twitter feed asking about when or how he could play it without 3GS. Their casual reply? Simply buy a new iPhone to play it. That company are too used to us fools spending a fortune on their games.
Finally - that DIY upgrade link sounds great. I'll have to try this to the weekend.
EDIT 2: Fuck it - maybe I do want an iPad.

Really glad that people are digging this. I'm probably going to keep dropping from what was 2nd place Asagi arcade more until I can spend some more time with it next week.
Remember that you can gift apps to others in the iTunes store if you know the email address which is linked to their account...... I've already gifted this to my brother who is sure to be intimidated by it since he hasn't played a shmup seriously since Lifeforce.

Re: Espgaluda 2 iphone - its out
quick question about the scoring. seems the optimal way to score points in iphone mode is to enter awakening, cancel bullets until the counter hits x500, then immediately exit awakening to cash in the multiplier on all on screen bullets. then if you've got enough gems still, do it all again. anything i'm missing?
also, what difficulty are you guys playing on?

Re: Espgaluda 2 iphone - its out
So are people actually playing Arcade mode on this? I couldn't deal with arcade mode because the controls are just not good enough to deal with the complexity of this game's scoring system. iPhone mode is perfect for it though.
Re: Espgaluda 2 iphone - its out
I've been playing mostly on arcade mode myself. It's probably better if you're going more for a 1CC than a high score, but otherwise the iPhone mode is probably a better bet.
For the most part I'm playing on normal difficulty (if what I'm seeing is correct, "Hard" on this is the normal arcade difficulty, right?)

Cave just sent out this link via their English language Twitter feed. It's an update on the Touch Fix. It's coming, apparently. I'd hope so!MDY wrote:Still waiting for the Touch fix....

Just throwing this out there again for anyone that missed it. This is VERY EASY and does not require a hacked iPod or anything. This is the way to go if you have a 32/64 3rd Gen iPod touch.dmauro wrote:There is no need to wait for a patch for the iPod touch. Do it yourself quite easily:

iphone tateha=bokoten
iphone asagi=dir(4 japanese symbols)
arcade ageha=pietoro
arcade tateha=susimaru
arcade asagi=xiaoke
best score in iphone mode is 568171469 with ageha
best score in arcade mode is 395924065 with ageha
Re: Espgaluda 2 iphone - its out
I think the top scores are broken on the leaderboards. Dir is listed on the Asagi leaderboard as having a score of 140,989,260. The 2nd and 3rd ranked players have similar scores and then the 4th ranked player has 902,606,350. Apparently the leaderboards are dropping a number.
Dir almost certainly holds the top iPhone score with Asagi at 1,409,892,60X.

Just realized about the 3G element. Was wondering why my iPod couldn't find it in the App store

There's an extra number below the current score, like this:dmauro wrote:I think the top scores are broken on the leaderboards. Dir is listed on the Asagi leaderboard as having a score of 140,989,260. That 0 is the last digit of the score I'm pretty sure. My bet is that OpenFeint isn't used to scores this big.

So maybe that Gigawing port might not be such a great idea after all...
