Stage order is the exact same every time anyway (unless you edit it). Savestate to lock in stage order is useful for Psikyo games, although dubious. Also Batrider special course.

Can someone just list the stage names in the OP, please?
stage 5 is actually called Cloud, not Sky. it goes Valley, Plateau, Factory, Plant, Cloud, Base, Airport...
That's how it goes. If you don't remember the name of the stage, just say the number and my script will turn it to the name automagically ;).

Starting to get the hang of it. I think medal chaining is simultaneously the most rewarding and most frustrating means of scoring, ever. It's like, "YES! I've got the 10k medal! NO! There it goes!"

I think there's a way to get the round orange bullets for everything, like use a newer version rom like bgareggat2, but I don't think it's worth it personally.

Yeah, it's too bad there aren't enough hidden gems to play a game like Varth every week. If only people's computers were good enough and we could expand to zn-1, st-v, g-net level games.

I'm not sure it's Chitta I'm using, it's the second ship to the left on the lower line up.

Let's see if this 2 weeks can finally convince me of this game. As this one and Ikaruga are, among the most famous shmups, the only ones I personally can't really share much love for. They are both very stylish in presetation, but when played for highscore they weren't that much fun for me... yet.

Seems so far I've only been able to either a) keep my medal chain up or b) do the other special scoring tricks, would love to have a run that did both. Also getting past level 3 would probably be fun too.

Consistent stage order in Psikyo games is just a matter of resetting with 'shift-F3'; the stage order of the games is fixed on the first credit after power on. It deviates after that based on a variety of factors.

Most people don't notice this because they just hit F3 to reset, which is just 'soft reset' and doesn't clear out all memory etc; so random stage order persists across that type of reset.

I think Garegga actually gains a lot when playing for score. When I first played it, I tried going for survival without reading the strategy thread... big mistake. I think I never managed to go past stage 3 that way, really annoying and I hated it for a while. Then, some credits with score in mind made me like it. Credits played for score are just awesome fun when you know how the game works.

As for Ikaruga, don't like it either.

done this game absolutely blows to try and score in and i tried a little bit to get better than the survival route i did before (tried to 1cc it a while ago completely ignoring score). Just generally don't like this games scoring and how random fucking birds are at all sry.
