Well, I see Casper with her leg kinda suggestively stretched over Windia. Hey remember Casper 11, Windia 13...as the game lets you know. Follet seems like a prude, even though she's wearing a pretty low cut blouse. Pretty nice rack for a 14 year old.

Well, Rosa is 17 at least. Maybe that's how they could get away with her wearing her garters and no pants.

Asada also mentioned they plan to talk about DeathSmiles with overseas publishers during TGS.

ESP Ra.De getting lots of votes is as expected. Most overseas votes being for MMP isn't a surprise either. Dangun Feveron is a surprise though. Pretty sure ESP Ra.De will be the winner in the end.

Biased Sample? We know the Japanese marketing for the game focused on the characters. Outside of the selection screen and some endings (hello bath time) the game itself doesn't. Look at the modified image from emphatic, it's a giant treant who attacks you with grinning apples. That is awesome. But it seems all the giant cows and scythe firing reapers in the world can't make up for Caspar x Windia.

Wants Retail releases of the of games that haven't been emulated yet.

The ones that haven't been emulated I don't mind on Xbox Live.

Other than a localizer not thinking they could market it to the 360 crowd, there's no reason why DS starring cute little girls would hurt the chances of a Western release. Shmupsforum feeling emasculated or terrified that Chris Hansen will walk in on them playing doesn't count. (Frankly, if the game wasn't a shooter, DS's strong female cast would probably make it appealing to a huge number of female anime/manga or gothic lolita fans.)

AFAIK, other than the kinda-creepy bathtime scene, there is no questionable content in DS1—unlike DS2, which caters to the little-girl fetishists a lot more. And since Record of Agarest War (with scenes like this) is getting a Western release from Aksys, I'm not sure how much bathtime would be a problem anyway. They could always draw towels or bikinis on.

But all the things Elixir mentioned are a problem, and one of the reasons why I doubt Asada is going to be all that successful talking to anyone at TGS.
Perhaps if he was looking into getting Futari brought over, there might be a shot. It's probably their most easily-marketable-in-the-West game, of the ones that are planned so far for 360, and if the localizer is smart enough to announce it ASAP (and is not UFO, king of the delays) maybe people would be willing to wait for it.

...blehhh at this, even though you're probably right. After I almost fell asleep watching a dude milk the first boss for like ten minutes, I realized I'd never want to spend a lot of time with that game. :/

When you deny lolis in shmups, you're denying an 11 year old girl the right to shoot the core. How does that make you feel?

just wondering, why do you say that? i would have thought ketsui is the least offensive of the planned ports... of course i guess that horribly compressed video of the futari TLB on youtube gets a ton of views.

I would go with "Atlus" as they have published CAVE games in the past. If they are publishing games such as "Operation Darkness" over in America I see no reason personally why they wouldn't publish CAVE games. Unless Tacticial role-playing Games have a larger audience in America than Shmups. Perhaps Tacticial role-playing Games are easier to try and market to a larger audience. Then there is always the cost of the licenses for publishing games differing from company to company.

Also Atlus wouldn't try to ruin the box art and give it a western name.

I also believe that it will be ESP Ra.De in the end. Progear would be cool (being a hori and all) but I heard that it's not Cave that owns the rights to that game anymore?

Honestly, I really hope it is ESP Ra.de. It was either that or Guwange I was most interested in, in terms of their "old" titles.

Since the Xbox can't show the game in it's native resolution, do you think they'll tweak it(ala death smiles) or do you think it may have some filter options(ala Raiden Fighters)?

It's a nice game but the more you love it the more you end up hating it... the loop and the really heavy emphasis on no-miss/no-bomb isn't fun by anyone's viewpoint.

I really, really doubt Atlus would because they have since discovered that if you like to make money, localizing weeaboo RPGs is where it's at! Working Designs figured the same thing out but it was too little, too late for them. Also Atlus has built up this sweet niche for themselves and they don't want to release any games where you actually might die because you don't wanna jeopardize that brand loyalty. I love schadenfreude, so this is my favorite review of all time!

Atlus has also played up the fact that it's published some sadistically hard dungeon-crawling-type stuff, though, so I think it could probably do the same sort of thing with a shooter. I doubt they actually will, but they could.

Given how well they've gone over, I'd say they've learned their lesson. Really I think they've pretty much given up marketing their Success stuff for example. Any commercially successful dungeon crawler must at least be bright-colored, handheld, and infinitely more forgiving than any PC roguelike. Instead of localizing Baroque, the JP Saturn game they should have went with is definitely Princess Crown. Amazing graphics, mind-numbingly easy, hey it worked for Odin Sphere.

FWIW with Cave and Atlus, Atlus published SMT: Imagine in Japan naturally, but passed on the overseas ports.

Thank you all for your mail.
Here are the results of our Xbox Live Arcade survey.

1. Guwange
2. Esprade
3. Dodonpachi
4. Progear
5. Pink Sweets
6. Mushihime-sama
7. Dangun Feveron
8. Muchi Muchi Pork
9. Espgaluda
10. Ibara

We have received many requests from our overseas users for region-free versions of our games.

"Death Smiles" was released only for Asia, but the region for "Mushi-hime sama Futari" has not been decided yet. I believe it will be decided around the time of Tokyo Game Show 2009.

We are very happy to have received so many e-mails from overseas.

Thank you.
