Maybe translating the logo wasn't really necessary as in graphic editing, You could have just added these letters at the side of the original logo (The castle of shikigami).

. It's looking pretty good so far.

It came down to personal preference, and I wanted to translate it.Uzumakijl wrote:Maybe translating the logo wasn't really necessary as in graphic editing, You could have just added these letters at the side of the original logo (The castle of shikigami).

The original logo is pretty dang iconic, but as sharp as that looks, I'm content.
Oh, and by the by: I went with Odette.

Re: The Shikigami no Shiro Fan Translation [50% Complete]
The only issue I have with the logo is the English being written vertically, which IMO is too hard to read and always looks distractingly bad. Also not sure I really like the way the text seems to just be pasted on top of the boxes, removing their purpose entirely. Any way to get a horizontal rendering?
Failing that, I'd have to second the "just subtitle it" recommendation. Something similar to how the Japanese Shikigami no Shiro 3 boxart does it would work well:

Yeah, I think it would look better if you just had simple text down the side with the english name (if that).StarCreator wrote:The only issue I have with the logo is the English being written vertically, which IMO is too hard to read and always looks distractingly bad. The original render was this:

But I thought it looked kind of tacky, and I loved the vertical look.
There's time, fortunately. I'll take all the suggestions into account and see what comes of it.
Oh yeah, this was an alt as well, based on my original mock-up(for you hori fans

Re: The Shikigami no Shiro Fan Translation [50% Complete]
My suggestion remains to not even attempt to fit English text into the white boxes - there's no solution that looks good. Note Aksys's logo for Shikigami 3 discards them entirely.
Seeing as how you seem to be stuck with a vertically oriented logo in this case, I'd still vote to just provide a translation in subtitles rather than trying to manipulate the logo itself.

Yeah, someone cooked up an alternative that looks much better.StarCreator wrote:My suggestion remains to not even attempt to fit English text into the white boxes - there's no solution that looks good. Note Aksys's logo for Shikigami 3 discards them entirely.

It uses the text at the top of the menu screen, for example:

Also, these are for third_strike:

Yeah I much prefer the 3rd screenshot as it has better preportions. The logo is fine in Japanese as most of us know what it means.
btw im looking forward to the finished work, I only briefly played the game when I first got into shmups and am holding off playing it again until I can play your improved version

The second to last character is complete. Making this at 80%.
Kim Dae-Jeong(aka De John in the US version of Shiki 2) is a teacher from Korea, who investigates the killings to discover why his students had to die, and who was responsible.

What he finds is beyond anything he could imagine.

Perhaps a dumb question, but what would be the best way to buy a copy of the game now, to be ready for when this patch hits?

Re: The Shikigami no Shiro Fan Translation [80% Complete]
Pretty good question to be honest. I'd assume ebay or some such, it can't be that hard to come by.
Give it time though, we still have to work out the actual patching process.
Shouldn't be too difficult though. (What will be is the errata, like tutorial, character select, and end credit text.)

Re: The Shikigami no Shiro Fan Translation [80% Complete]
The final character script is complete.

Tagami, a silent character with a mysterious past, originally a hidden character, newly available in the PC & PS2 versions.

She has no dialogue whatsoever, but that doesn't mean the bosses won't have things to say to her.
If you want to unveil the truth of the Castle of Shikigami, this is the route for you.
Tagami is hiding all the secrets.
She originally appeared in Alfa System's classic lightgun shooter, Elemental Gearbolt.

Dialogue time!

So what's left, you ask?
*The Art Gallery
*The End Credits
*The Endings
*Errata
So, we're at 85%.

Cool, I didn't know Septentrion was mentioned before Roger showed up in the second game.

Is this the same game? I am considering trying to order it.
http://global.rakuten.com/en/store/suru ... /507948-1/
It claims to be the EX version. When I check Wikipedia it lists the EX version as a port of the Xbox version and the only PC version in existence. The cover is not the same as the one you show here.

Yeah, the cover I posted isn't EX, but the very original. Bad example, I guess.

Re: The Shikigami no Shiro Fan Translation [80% Complete]
The endings are complete, title screen is almost done(we think).
This safely puts as at 90% completion.
Once the ending patch is applied, I'm considering starting an open beta of sorts, if there's any interest.
The beta version will include all campaigns translated, from start to finish, though there's presently some ending text in Tagami and Gennojo's path that hasn't yet been implemented. In the unlikely event we can't fix it before releasing a beta, I can provide the translation myself.
Update: the Tagami/Kim errors have been fixed. Still digging for Gennojo's...
Remaining:
-Gallery
-Tutorial & Errata
-End Credits(this will still take a long fricking time)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uT7u0GoczTk
Tagami's final boss dialogue and ending. We'll be adding the ending text tonight, so I'll update with that once I have it.
(Didn't remember to enable Fraps audio. Ah well.)
One more:

For Fumiko. Sadly, FRAPS seems to hate me, so still no audio. Maybe I'll use ManyCam next time...

So...I know this is kinda necro to post here (since the last post was in 2012), but...Will the actual fan translation ever get 100% complete, or will it stay 90% forever, cause...well, surprisingly...
Degica is actually bringing this out on PC, and no, its not going to be the botched MLF 2 version, thankfully.

Fecking YES!
It's a shame the original translation project stalled but this is great news.

It didn't really stall... it's basically 100% complete at this point, we just never finished the voice acting. Everyone but Shoujo and Fumiko have English VA now, we just didn't distribute the files in any official patched capacity, just kind of did it piecemeal.Pedro Lambrini wrote:Fecking YES!
