So, manly shmup is an oxymoron?

what are you on about.....there are 5 rose sisters, correct.....and you see them between every stage.....this game is dominated by pinks and girly imagery....

now how does this say anything about me being bad at raizing and making assumptions....im not assuming anything...ive owned and played the game.....im basing my point on facts

that being said, video games as a whole are not really a manly thing.....

i only commented becuase you called an obviously girly game 'manly'

although i do agree the soundtrack is quite good

you are a strange young man

You obviously haven't play Ibara then, maybe you're talking about Pink Sweets or something. Ibara is as manly as videogames can get. (no matter if that's actually a whole lot or not very much at all)

It would be a lot manlier if all the Rose Garden girls were men but in the same outfits, I reckon.

To a Cave-fan, apparently nothing is more manly than pretending to be a purple-haired, disproportionate, insect-princess-loli, flying around on a giant beetle.
Or a blonde-twintailed loli with batwings, wielding a pair of garden shears.
Or a couple of gender-shifting fairies.

This is a very educational thread... my 2cents

I was explaining to a friend that cave needed a cash cow game (death smiles), I saw his puzzled expression from looking at the box... don't think he's too fond of loli or goth, and especially the combination thereof. Games like this can be promoted heavily with live actors in cos-play selling merchandise such as "love-pillows" with Deathsmiles characters printed on pillowcases.... talking about this didn't make me feel manly at all (typing is slightly less shameful). Good thing him and I go way back and have nothing to hide (except out loligoth-love-pillows, naturally) and he was actually quite fond of the game.

Hopefully Ibara won't inspire such shame but then again if its filled with flowers and lingerie I might be able to get a girl friend to give it a try.... when she fails miserably I'm wretch about how she isn't manly enough for rose gardens, thats sure to get me laid.

i never ever said cave games in general were manly.....i simply commented when someone suggested one of the most effeminate cave titles was 'manly'.....

im the first to admit that a lot of the themes cave has used in recent years comes off pretty gay at a glance

im not at all concerned by this mind you.....just thought it odd someone to say they felt flowers and an abundance of pink was 'manly'

back on topic now....

so is there any confirmed answers about yagawa's involvement at cave presently?

I know you've probably already seen it, which is kinda scary when you think about it.... but people who have any idea what this video is for shouldn't be allowed to even use the word "manly" in a sentence in my humble opinion.

On-topic: So the feeling I get is that Ibara and Pink Sweets bombed, hence why the Ibara PCB is going for $200+ when most other recent games are far more loot. I'd hope that Yagawa is still in biz, ideally he's propose something to G-Rev because they are far more open to trying something new and different (unlike Cave, obviously). Just look at G-rev's line up and you'll understand how open minded they are... they can be manly also (Under Defeat, sans the picture gallery).

there is a word for such a situation but I don't think it is "manly"

its not a matter of willingness to try new things.....its just business.....all the games that yagawa has done since joining cave have flopped comparatively.....

so it woulds make sense that they might not be to inclined to give him another chance

Are you confusing it for pink sweets perhaps? The stages and enemies of ibara are fairly subdued steampunk style with a gothic twist to them... i think the only pink in the entire game is the rose garden insignia.

On the topic of Ibara, is there any sort of English translation for the ending/general dialogue anywhere?

Ibara "bombed" because people were expecting Cave and got Raizing.
Pink Sweets "bombed" because it's a vicious play on his typical signature rank systems, and it was pretty fucking hard for people to get used to. (Some players didn't like the idea of infinite lives either, though AZI has since proved that you can clear the game without it and still score high.)
Muchi Muchi Pork, I believe, was quite a success, and was well-received by Cave players on both sides of the planet.
