Re: Extron Emotia GX Operating Instructions
I made a small DB9 cable with P1+2 buttons 5 and 6 (my egret didn't have them wired at all) I then made the same thing for my consoles, CPS2, and CPS1 boards (my fighters).

You don't have to run your controls through the JAMMA harness if you can either:Catzoo wrote:I have a fingerboard left here , so yes i could try this , but i'll have problems if i want more than 4 butons ? If i put them on , for exemple , 26 & 27 on the fingerboard , i'll get a few problems as thoses cables are ground on my E2 harness ?
and if i solder for ex , Xbox hack pads on the fingerboard + Emotia , how could i get my Emotia runing with DC pads ?
a) solder extension cables with quick disconnects (that you connect one by one to our buttons) to your pad hack
b) solder extension cables with the correct connector for EGRET II (1 connector per player) controls to your pad hack
Personally, I use a J-Pac for all my consoles so for me I have to use the JAMMA harness.
Update 2011-08-01:
I no longer use the J-Pac and instead for controls use a pair of PSX pads that are hacked along with console adapters (PS2->DC for example) and for my 360 I use the Akihabarashop PS360. If you already have a working PS2->JAMMA, this is much better than the Ultimarc product line. Another great way is the Multi Console Cthulu (by toodles) that supports a ton of consoles, just not the 360 (but with PS2->360 adapter from etokki.com that is no problem). And finally, the upcoming PS360+ from Akihabarashop that apparently will have the same multi console support as the MC Cthulu is well recommended. Just stay away from the J-Pac for you console needs.
You can also check out by site in my signature for more info on running consoles in a JAMMA cabinet.

Re: Extron Emotia GX Operating Instructions
Quick question. Looks like it was asked before, but never got a clear answer. I have a Super Emotia II, and am unsure which setting is 240p. I don't have a option that specifically states "non-interlaced", the switch just says "AF" and has 1, 2, and 3 positions labeled. I think 3 is the 240p option, but I'm unsure.

Re: Extron Emotia GX Operating Instructions
Yes, the lowest switch setting is 240p. The difference should be visible on first sight. AF1 is pure 480i without anti-flcker, AF2 is flicker-reduced 480i and AF3 is 240p.

Re: Extron Emotia GX Operating Instructions
Okay, that's what I thought, which leads me to my next question: Should the scanlines be apparent the whole time I have it on? Here's what's going on: I have the 360 connected to the Emotia, which is connected via RGBS to my Astro City monitor (looks to be a Nanao MS9). When I have my Saturn connected directly via RGBS, I see the scanlines clearly. However, with the Emotia connected, I don't see them nearly as clearly unless I move the entire picture (say if I'm moving left and right quite a bit). If I pause the game, the only difference I see when I flip the AF switch is that 1 & 2 seem to make the screen brighter than when I have it on 3, I don't seem to get any clear scanlines with any of the settings. Is this how it should be or is something up?

Re: Extron Emotia GX Operating Instructions
Doesn't sound normal. It should look exactly like a real low-res source (e.g. a Saturn). Some time back I had a defective GX unit on hand which didn't switch into low-res mode. Behaved much like you describe it (just different brightness levels when switching from AF 2 to 3).

Re: Extron Emotia GX Operating Instructions
*sigh* I just seem to have horrible luck with these things. Is there anything that can be done to fix a unit that just won't display the video being input into it? I bought an original Emotia on eBay for pretty cheap, hooked it up, it worked perfectly, scanlines and all. I changed the power supply I was using, hooked it up, and got nothing (Same wiring as my original as well). Switched back, and now I have no picture (though I can see the scanlines on my screen when I turn the unit on). However, my unit that won't do non-interlaced went through the same process and still works just fine (minus the not doign non-interlaced mode thing). I opened up the one I just got, but it doesn't really look like there's anything serviceable in there. I think I fried whatever circuit converts the video
But let me know if there's anything at all I can look at. Though I'm guessing it's back to the eBay hunt

Re: Extron Emotia GX Operating Instructions
I want to buy a super emotia for my xbox 360. A guy on a website is selling it to me but he doesn't know if it works or not bc he doesn't know much about it. This is what he observed. "After plugging it in, I noticed that the Overscan Light, Format Light number 2 and Format Light number 3 all flashed on and off continuously". What does that mean??? Is that normal or is it broken??? If so, then can it be easily fixed??? Thanx.

Re: Extron Emotia GX Operating Instructions
Hi,
I recently saw this happen with an Emotia I purchased. The culprit was a bad power supply. It just kept cycling: on, off, on, off, on, off. I opened up the PSU and saw that it had a slow-blow fuse and had hopes that replacing it would solve the problem. Unfortunately, it did not. That power supply was donated to the junk heap.
I'd recommend passing on this deal as the power supplies are difficult to track down and, since there is no way of testing the machine, the unit itself may be faulty.
I may have a spare one of these to sell. If you want, PM me and we can talk. I actually highly recommend using these with an original XBOX as well since you can get 240p output for all the emulators available to that platform. NES, SNES, Genesis, MAME (CoinOps), etc.
Good luck!

Re: Extron Emotia GX Operating Instructions
ive one question for Fudoh (or anyone else ^^)
I received my Super Emotia today (many thanks to a great shmups member
), and ive few questions regarding settings. It is plug on my PVM, and for now im running my Xbox1 (with CoinOPS and other emulators), i set it on Overscan, non interlace, im booting with the Vga boot disk on xbox + Frozen cable, bios set on ntsc (thanks to Enigmah video selector)...what i want to know is...wich output i must choose "Pal" or "Ntsc" ? It seems the scanlines are more visible/bigger when thdgd emotia is set on Ntsc, but, when i was playing Progear, the graphics were "blurred"..then i switched on "Pal" and it was sharper, but scanlines werent so big. My Xbox is a Pal one....so what is the better setting ? Did you know why the game seems blurred with bigger scanlines on NTSC ?

Re: Extron Emotia GX Operating Instructions
Setting it to PAL does a framerate conversion from 480p60 on the input to 288p50 on the output, so you lose the smooth scrolling in your games. As long as you don't mind, keep it at PAL, but the right setting is NTSC. Also only on NTSC you get the proper scanline alignment of 1 scanline per 240p-pixel line.

Re: Extron Emotia GX Operating Instructions
Hello!, greetings from Argentina, I have a question, it would be possible to feed a Super Emotia unit with a common power supply for pc, without feeding a pc obviously, with a connection similar to that made Kenchan, using the -12 +12 +5, and the two grounds of the 20-pin main connector? sorry for my bad english...thanks in advance!

Re: Extron Emotia GX Operating Instructions
yeah sure, you can do that. If you check the 2nd posting on the first page of this thread you'll find the pinout.
If you use an ATX power supply you have to add a power-on switch, see here: http://www.techpowerup.com/articles/other/22

I found a super emotia 2 for €10 and could not resist. Is there anything I can do with this and an lcd? Except collecting dust with all the other junk I accumulate?
clean gloves, dirty hands.

Re: Extron Emotia GX Operating Instructions
No, you can't. The Emotia II does 480i only and on a LCD even an Emotia 1 would of no proper use for you.

Re: Extron Emotia GX Operating Instructions
Hi! finally I got an Emotia unit and thanks to the info posted here I could make it run perfectly...but honestly I'm a little dissapointed, while the progressive output is good, the scaling with non 640x480/320x240 resolutions is worse than I expected, specially in texts...there some way to set custom resoltions to feed the Emotia? I tried WinModelines but doesn´t work, with any modeline (below 640x480 obviously) the Emotia simply don't output image...some tip if any? thanks in advance, greetings!

No, there's no sense in feeding anything but straight 640x480p.

I don't understand, no sense because is not possible or because is not necessary?, I mean, what's about the non straight 240p resolutions? ej. majority of Mame, Genesis, Snes, Nes, etc.? sorry my ignorance

Re: Extron Emotia GX Operating Instructions
no sense because of your observings and no sense because it's not neccessary.I don't understand, no sense because is not possible or because is not necessary?
you have to use emulation which uses straight linedoubling. For example if you have a game/system with 320x224 resolution, configure your emulator so the output isn't fullscreen 640x480, but 640x448 (active area) with black borders to fill up the whole 480p screen resolution. This way you get perfect sharpness and perfect scanline alignment.I mean, what's about the non straight 240p resolutions? ej. majority of Mame, Genesis, Snes, Nes, etc.? sorry my ignorance

Re: Extron Emotia GX Operating Instructions
I recently bought a Extron Super Emotia down scale converter that came with a hacked PC ATX power supply unit. So from reading the first couple of pages earlier in this thread, I see the logical layout to hook up an 360 console with VGA cable --> Super Emotia --> hacked BNC cable hooked up to a Jamma fingerboard --> to Egret II candy cab = true 240p format. This only covers just the video portion & not audio nor controls either.
Now about sound, what would be the best way to hook up the 360's stereo audio to my Egret II's stereo harness setup? Any special in-line audio adapter needed to protect from blowing out the arcade speakers (since they're already amplified to begin with)?
I do have an custom-made external Taito G-Net to RCA stereo phono plug adapter if that helps.
I've noticed by going with viletim's Scart to Jamma adapter route, both video & audio portions (with the built-in 6w audio amp) are taken care of via scart cable but is mono output only (through the Jamma edge interface, of course).

I think the best way is mounting a 2.1 system like emphatic did. Theres a tutorial on his website and on many others sites all around the web

Re: Extron Emotia GX Operating Instructions
Hi guys sorry to dig up an old thread but I need help
OK is my setup in my E2
Gender VGA Convertor (CPU in) --> 360 VGA Cable (CPU in) --> VGA Cable (Monitor) to Jamma Connector
The Jamma connector I have a cable from ground to video ground cable, also HSync & VSync are wired together & connected to Video Sync. When switch on the E2 the input lights go crazy on the front of the Extron & the is mashup.
Any ideas?

what Extron model do you have?
maybe set the xbox to 480p
Use the BNC connectors, S is composite-sync.

Re: Extron Emotia GX Operating Instructions
It's the extron super emotia. I connected the xbox to a VGA monitor first and set it to 640x480
