Epic boobies are awesome.

I think i need to cancel out this thread by starting an Epic anime game girl boobies thread. Not really that would get me well on the way to the ban I yearn in secrecy

Put it away Lordy.

On topic: I'm genuinely interested in - and yes, a little concerned about - where organised religion is likely to lead the human race next. I'd also be lying if I said I wasn't quite staggered by the amount of biblical literalists out there, especially in the states. But there are certainly more tactful approaches than labelling such folk (^_~) "morons". OK, I may have let a few "religious fruitcakes" slip out here and there, but only in reference to the most extreme, i.e. dangerous types. But what do I know, I'm just a lost and lowly atheist. And we're like ants..y'know, no morals etc.

But they could never meet. They'd be locked separate rooms, and can only communicate via IRC, the forum, and PM (no email even). Of course, they have to share the same resources and share the bills.

As someone who speaks two current day, non-related languages I can say that there's a lot going on in the bible that's missed. Shit. If it was in English from 2000 years ago it still go way over our heads. That being said, I've always found conservative Christians a special breed. I mean, Jesus was the original rebel. He wasn't well kept and was always going against the grain. Maybe it was the crusades, but this whole straight-laced image that must be associated with Christianity is a bit of a turn off.

a friend of mine's father is a local vicar, and he will tell you straight that he doesn't believe in the virgin birth, for example.

take into account that none of those stories were put into writing until about 100 years after jesus died, and after greece took it up as their national religion certain things were changed or omitted. most interesting of which are the letters between jesus and his younger brother john

personally, i would quite like to be religious because there's a certain romanticism in the texts that appeal to me

i mean, how can you know religion isn't for you if you've never tried one? i used to feel that way about the flame grilled whopper

That's not nearly as much fun. :(

I used to like this claim, but gay people tried to use it (amongst, ahem... other things) on me. A few couldn't get it through their head that the only dick I was going to suck was my own... and that unfortuntaely never happened.

It's a result of Christianity becoming the state religion of the late Roman Empire, and subsequently Byzantine Empire and early Western European monarchies. Initially the aristocracies of these various states and governments were the first to convert, with the religion being partially imposed on, partially peacefully disseminated to, the remaining population. Christianity became synonymous with the ruling class.

It will lead us the same place we've always been. The effects of organized religion are a byproduct of human nature. It's never been the other way around. Ever notice how militant atheists bear a remarkable similarity to fundy christians?

I know Ceph can ruffle people's feathers, but I like the guy, and he's an extremely useful contributor when it comes down to solid shmups knowledge outside of off-topic. This is a shmups forum, and he has a lot of shmup-knowledge.
