Glad to hear that. :)

Do you play your own game btw? Have any scores to post that would give me a new goal to aim for? I still like XOP Black a lot, but without competition I have sadly close to no interest. :?

Well, I didn't think it would be very fair to add my own scores to the highscore board. Been awhile since I played it "Seriously" (as in, while I was developing it) so I will try and get some new scores.

This being said, you can't expect the designer to know everything. Even IKD doesn't really compete in his own games. He's too busy .. making new games. :X

As for lack of competition, I think it's that way with most PC shmups around here. Vast majority of people here play arcade/console shmups. If you look at the active HS threads on the first page, I count only two PC shmups, this one and Perfect Cherry Blossom. On page two there's .. another Touhou game.

F.I.N.A.L.L.Y someone else has tried the EX stages. Nice score, keep it up! How do you like it so far?
Going to watch your replay in a sec.

I have been trying them, but not too seriously. My run went fine until the boss. I fucked up timing boss death.
Also, I shouldn't copy&paste forms.

By the way, did you know that you can skip the enemies in Maelstorm that bounce back when you come closer to them ( the ones before midboss )? Just go very top of the screen. Not very wise as the midboss might ambush you.

Without the two bombs during the stage and the illtimed boss, you could've easily gotten 4mill+, definitely keep at it! Remember that a bomb cuts your DAL counter into half, which completely destroys your score

I didn't know about the route you've used for that fast scrolling bit, that was quite surprising to me. It seems like you're using the route that's actually supposed to be used. I always move through the blocks with some tight dodges.

And I didn't know that you could skip the enemies before the midboss either. Nice find, although you of course want to kill them for the DAL chips.

Insane r.7

Plasmo - 79,941,120 - Stage 2

Loving it so far. It adds so many new elements (and quite a lot of depth, too!) to the original game that it feels fresh again. I definitely prefer Insane mode over all the others now.
The scoring potential is very high and will hopefully keep me busy for a long time. On this credit I died on the second boss, if I would've reached stage 3 my score would be 120mill at least.

Thank you very much Udderdude for giving XOP Black this last update. Not many people will care or appreciate it, but it's nice to see that this solid game just became a very good, far above average game. This is the second best free Doujin shmup I've played. (first being Yalkina STG, of course)

Glad you like it, I'm happy with how the new version turned out as well. You and Sasupoika provided some great feedback too.

Yalkina STG is quite nutty, super fast bullets everywhere

I am still learning to run Ruin properly. Last attempt was 15 million, and it had numerous bad mistakes.

If you haven't already done it yourself, I've figured out a no Miss/no Bomb route for EX0 up to the boss. Sunday mornings are always good for gaming. :)

EX0 - Very Hard

Plasmo - 57,380,616 - Replay

I kinda fucked up the boss, mostly because I haven't practiced him before, he has some safespots, hope the replay demonstrates the most important ones.

On another note, should I make different scoretables for the different revisions or should I just merge everything so r7 scores will dominate sooner or later?

No-miss/no-bomb route? Goddamnit, I haven't figured anything like that out.
I can no-miss/no-bomb until the big ships after first enemy-spewer.

Anyway,
Sasupoika - 21,511,752 - EX0

Edit: I watched your replay. Awesome run. There is easier way to dodge the first attack of first midboss ( the very first enemy ). Just go over left or right pincer and shoot. The left/right stream of exploding bullets disappear, you won't be even remotely touched by other stream and only thing you have to dodge is the bullets from the center.

Also, about the second midboss ( the one just before boss ). Why didn't you destroy the thingies on left and right? They cancel all bullets on the screen, converting it to DAL.

More people should play this game :/

Edit:

Very Hard
Sasupoika - 28,661,898- EX0

Insane Normal Course
Sasupoika - 83,885,980- 3

I knew about the easier safe spot, but I thought that the third attack would give me more DAL chips, so I tried to destroy the boss as fast as possible. I was wrong however and am using the safer spot now. You should have around 3000 DAL chips after the first enemy.

I didn't know about this at all! Nice find, thanks a lot.

I was able to do a no miss run with only two bombs at the boss. The last bomb wasn't necessary, but I was too nervous. On top of that I killed the boss too early with the last bomb, could've easily been 110mill and without the bomb around 113mill maybe.

EX0 Very Hard

Plasmo - 108,409,567 - Replay

Let me know if you can see any other spots for possible improvement.

Anyway, 1cc is very possible. I just need to work on survival.

Excellent score, fantastic replay! I particularly loved your way to handle stage fourth's first midboss, nice find!
I might be able to play XOP Black again in a few days and will try to beat your score then.
