Technically I would say Space Harrier is. Scaling sprites are still sprites... there are certainly no polygons involved. Compare Outrun to Outrun 2 (the latter obviously being a 3D game). As far as gameplay goes, I guess that's another argument, but the work itself is 2D.

Shmups and ASCII games aside, in order of the time spent playing.

1. Super Metroid (SNES).
2. Diablo II: Lord of Destruction (PC).
3. Elasto Mania (PC, shareware).
4. Diablo: Hellfire (PC).
5. Heroes of Might & Magic II (PC).
6. Heroes of Might & Magic III (PC).
7. Worms: Armageddon (PC).
8. Crimsonland (PC, shareware).
9. Cave Story (PC, freeware).
10. Donkey Kong Country 2 (SNES).

That's right, I've always been a PC gamer in the first place. :)

At 2DGaming.net we use this definition:
Games with Non-Polygonal Graphics / Games with Polygonal Graphics and 2D Gameplay
So Space Harrier is on-topic there.

BTW, it would be nice if everyone would post their lists in Phil12's topic of the same name over there:
http://2dgaming.bplaced.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=283
Here, it will simply be lost among tons of off-topic nonsense in a short while.
