Gas prices are up what, 25c /L tops? (here anyway, and that's exaggerating) Let's say your average sized car holds 50 L, the difference when you have to full it, is 10$. Provided you have to fill her up once a week, how can't afford that? It sucks, but doesn't make a huge difference imo. You can buy a car, pay the permit, the insurance and the registration, 10, hell even 15$ a week shouldn't make a difference. We've got to live with it anyways.

Europe has it much more difficult than us, and have been for a long time.

When I see people refusing to take their car anymore and riding the bus at 3$ to go, and 3$ to come back, I really don't get it. You can take the bus for ecological reasons - fine by me. But to save money? Hardly.

In completely unrelated news (I'm sure), my Euros are back up again, strangely...they were at $210 for a while, then down to $203, now they're back up to $210 or more

Obviously I'm in the same boat as Ceph and D.

D works it out at $10.10 per gallon.
I work the UK rate at $10.83 per gallon.
I filled up my V8 the other day, it cost USD124.00

So yes, we have it twice as bad in Europe.

Unfortunately, those aren't reflected in next quarter's profits, so people don't care as much as they should.
GM has had a few years of near-continuous losses, and had them even up to that point. This argument doesn't make sense to me.

people driving hummer 2's in mt area kill me..... all the ones I've seen have had only a driver in them.

I saw some woman filling her's up at the gas station. I drive a little 1st gen MR2..... a TINY car. That thing dwarfed my car in comparison, I told her "nice tank" as I got into my car at the pump. I get about 30 miles to the gallon and I can easily fill my tank at around 25 to 30.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

Be that as it may, the problem will solve itself soon enough. In less than 50 years there will be no more oil left (which is going to be a real bummer, because we need it for all sorts of products). People are going to kick themselves for having been stupid enough to burn it all up.
1 gallon is 4.5 liters not 3.8

1 imperial gallon is 4.5 liters. 1 U.S. gallon is 3.8 liters.

Someone dig up a statistic on what the average Euro drives a month. Obviously that would tell us Yanks to figure out a way not to drive, but as has been stated, it is simply not in the cards for the majority of the country. Only one city in North America has a mass transit system worth mentioning.
imperial gallon
Is this what they use for Tie Fighters and Star Destroyers?

I hope you don't mean NYC because of train delays all the time and the fact that I walk faster than a bus runs on normal streets (no kidding.)

A study was done in San Francisco, and I believe the average speed of the buses here: 10 mph.

Must be a small SUV, I have a Vectra 1.8 and it takes £55 ($110) to fill up.

It didn't say it was great... just that it was. It's leaps and bounds above anything else in the country (don't even bother talking about anything not in the New England area).

I wouldn't be seen dead in a SUV/Chelsea Tractor. No its a 5.0 V8 928 S4. £62 and it wasn't quite full, looks like it could have taken £65 at these mad prices  . The good thing is that when I bought the car 10 years ago I already said to myself "Now you're entering silly street", so I kinda accepted mad ongoing costs from that point  .

Yeah I worked my US$10.83 per gallon rate out based on 4.55 liters/litres.

The Dallas — Fort Worth — Arlington metropolitan area, a title designated by the U.S. Census as of 2003, encompasses 12 counties within the U.S. state of Texas.

My home town(s) have no mass transit to speak of for the common folk.
There is now a train between Dallas & Ft Worth & a couple of buses here & there if you dont mind walking or catching a cab to get to them.

Pretty much, if you dont have a car in DFW.......youre screwed!

This is why I moved to a small town in MO with a population of 2000.

The transit system here in Logan, Utah is pretty good, probably thanks to the school - some buses are free, stop all over the town, have a central hub next to a shopping complex, and you can get from one end of the state to the other using one bus ride and two trains.

Also in Littleton, where I grew up (yes, that Littleton, Colorado), they have a decent light rail system that I LOVED growing up. Used to take it into Denver and go shopping at Sakura Square, the Japanese district...

Maybe not ideal, but definitely usable.
