The level three boss is still a real wall for me in Progear, and the end boss in Mushi. Maybe I should have just gone for ESPgaluda for my first 1CC...
That said, so far I've only ever played Progear in a working arcade, and never at home or anywhere else. For me, to 1cc a game by just returning again and again to the arcade would be the 'ultimate' 1cc. A real 1cc if you see what I mean (though I don't want that to be taken as dispariging to a home 1cc. To do that of course is still incredible and completely respectable and real or whatever). Would just feel nice to do it with a credit that's actually a coin you don't get back...

Try doing that pattern in Over mode, I find it's actually easier that way most of the time.themachinist wrote:I'm hoping to 1cc espgaluda. There are times when I can get to stage 4 and other times when I fail at the stage 2 boss, the last form with those weird saucers coming out the sides with the converging side-bullets coming horizontally combined with the boss's vertical shots just kill me.

He's an absolute bastard for sure. As I mentioned, I did recently kill the punk and magically avoid his desperation attack for the first time, no bombs. I couldn't believe it. To top it off I pulled it off in Casino with a crowd of people around me.The level three boss is still a real wall for me in Progear

None here; closest I've come is dying a few times on the last stage of ESPGaluda shortly after getting it, but got distracted before doing anything about that. I can't score in Galuda for the world, anyway, so it wouldn't have made for much of a satisfactory clear even if I had - it's a fun game, but at the very least I'd file everything before stage four firmly in the 'a bit crap if you're not paying attention to the points' pile. DDP DOJ is the only other one I've spent more than a couple hours with, but I still suck spectacularly at that.
That bit isn't exactly HP-tastic, so you can always just bomb it out of the way if you're just trying to progress. I suspect you're 'supposed' to use bullet cancelling, but see above re: my ability to maintain any kind of decent green lump count.themachinist wrote:the last form with those weird saucers coming out the sides with the converging side-bullets coming horizontally combined with the boss's vertical shots just kill me

Nailed him last night at Casino! One bomb. The little shit. Now I have seen level four for the first time (I've resisted watching anything I haven't reached on youtube) and now I have to get used to that damn hori shooting but vert moving bit...Skykid wrote:He's an absolute bastard for sure. Oh... Skykid... do you know, is the Casino version the JAP or US version?

If you hear a scream when you die it's the Jap version.spadgy wrote:Nailed him last night at Casino! One bomb. The little shit. I got ridiculously close to 1cc’n Esp Ra.de last night. I had the final form of Ms Garra down to about 1/8th of her energy.
The 4th level boss in Progear is a real bastard btw.

Casino version?... you know I can't remember exactly, but I have a feeling its the US version because I don't remember the title screen logo displaying in Japanese (my one at home is Japanese.)
Spadgy, this causes me brain problems, because if the Casino one is actually the US release, that means that its (apparently) a tad easier than the Japanese version: and that means my achievement doesn't count for as much
No wonder I find it so tough at home! In Casino I nearly wiped out the fourth level boss!
Well done anyway, keep practicing dude, we can take that sucka together!

You're at the London shmup meet aren't you? That will be our day to destroy Progear one after another...Skykid wrote:Casino version?... you know I can't remember exactly, but I have a feeling its the US version because I don't remember the title screen logo displaying in Japanese (my one at home is Japanese.)

Actually, I've never thought about it, but how's it play as a two player game? Horis often work better than verts in 2 player...

Yeah, I'll see you there next week!
I wouldn't suggest Progear as a 2P for point scoring. Most Shmups require a whole new practice ethic when tackled with 2 player - but it'll certainly be fun to have a go with you. Don't nick all the power-ups n that!

Stay in the center and take out the first few rows of saucers, then move to the right and just dodge bullets. When you're in the center of the screen, the saucers are eating most of your firepower, rather than the boss, and the pattern can take ages. If you move to the side, however, you start hitting one of the protusions on the boss, and he drops pretty quickly so you don't have to deal with the pattern for very long.themachinist wrote:I'm hoping to 1cc espgaluda. We'll do our best to have it set to the Japanese standard (so US difficulty 2, as someone mentioned either here or in a different thread.)LGB wrote:Truth.markedkiller78 wrote:The 4th level boss in Progear is a real bastard btw.
Also, I suggest that you ask Casino to change the difficulty, Skykid?
That way the scoring will be accurate and allowed to be entered to the high score table here on shmups!
Will you be there next week dude?

I play a handful of shmups kind of regularly on 2-player mode with my wife - believe me, I've learned not to nick all the power ups!Skykid wrote:Yeah, I'll see you there next week!![]()

Yup. So much more fun on 4 for some reason. It's the same way with GigaWing.Skykid wrote:We'll do our best to have it set to the Japanese standard (so US difficulty 2, as someone mentioned either here or in a different thread.)

Hey thanks. I now use a combination of that and kakuseiArvandor wrote:Stay in the center and take out the first few rows of saucers, then move to the right and just dodge bullets.
