I'd like to knock off a few teetering 1CCs. ESPRade, Salamander 2, Kamui (max difficulty) and Gradius II ARC were all within a life (or in GII's case one irritating endgame obstacle) last I played them. Rayforce and Raystorm are nowhere near that close, but I'd like to clear them too since I'm a huge fan of both. As for score, I'd like to get at least 4 mil in Under Defeat.

I'd also like to finally get an NTSCJ PS2, or at least a chipped one, so I can actually play the stuff I've been hoarding up seemingly forever!

leaning towards bullet hell-ish, small hitbox type games I guess.

Get "MAME Plus!" Below is a list of popular danmaku that i know run perfectly, courtesy of the Top 25/honorable mentions thread. You can't go wrong with any of these, pick one from each company to taste the flavors:

Cave: Dangun Feveron, DoDonPachi, DonPachi, ESP Ra.De., Guwange
Psikyo: Dragon Blaze, Gunbird 2, Strikers 1945 II
Raizing: Armed Police Batrider, Battle Bakraid, Battle Garegga
Takumi: Giga Wing

After about 6 months of not really liking ESPGaluda, I've started to enjoy it. Even more strangely, my hi score has jumped up over the last 3 days from 11 to 23 million, and while as before I died at stage four, now I can more or less always get to the final boss rush, and yesterday I died on the penultimate bullet pattern. It's so weird. My New Years resolution then is to 1CC ESPGaluda :)

Most Cave games and some other companies' gems (Giga Wing by Takumi, Ikaruga by Treasure, etc.) will deliver. I also got acquainted with bullet hell shmups via Touhou, and it's still my favorite series, but there are many more cool games like that. For instance, now I'm trying to 1CC DoDonPachi, it's really hard (imagine a Touhou extra stage intensity lasting over about half the game) but damn exciting. Also, there's Blue Wish Resurrection (another fine doujin mainly inspired by Cave's Ketsui) and Kenta Cho's games (among which a Cave's Dangun Feveron clone).

I have similar experience. Try some of X.X's games (search the forum for link) if you're not willing to spend cash. Or just play MAME titles :)
If you really want to improve your skills, don't just stick to bullet hell. Playing shmups with faster bullets, and bigger hitboxes will train you a lot faster.

thanks for all the suggestions! will definitely check as many as I can out.

got Blue wish resurrection and that is a fun game. much different feel.
hard mode is hard, and accel mode is umm..fast?

dodonpachi looks amazingly fun (and hard) and will probably be added to my 1cc goal list as soon as I get it.

-Get a one-life clear (or at least not die until stranger) on Giga Wing. Yeah, I'm still playing it on and off.

-Move on to a new shmup (thinking Raiden Fighters Jet, Brave Blade, or Esp Galuda).

-Finish that Twinkle Star Sprites FAQ I seem to work on only once a month  (I expect a rude response from an SDA member soon enough :P)

Yeah, that would count as a 1CC, but you have to mention that it was on Arrange Mode though :P.

I think any kind of completion counts, just as long the title carries the mode in which you played it on. Like, I just completed this sentence in one sitting, but it wasn't a shmup.

Here's a rude response. Where the fuck is "buy a 360 and Senko"?! :P

Also Brave Blade heh, I thought you didn't like Raizing. Ok lol I admit, I'm just jealous because my comp isn't good enough to run it above like 30% speed.
