I just managed to clear the 1st loop, and my first-ever 1CC after nearly 2 weeks of intensive training. I feel so fucking happy and accomplished. :)

That last boss was a total fucking faggot. I managed to squeak by with 0 lives remaining, and 0 bombs remaining. Jesus H. Christ.

US defaults:
ArrogantBastard - 10,798,630 - 1-ALL - Bolt/Nail

Edit: Next goal: 13-15 million points, and maybe 2nd loop?

From what I discovered on the web, to enable the loop you can only use 2 bombs or less, as NTSC-J said, lives play no role.

Well, that's what I've always heard and that's how it has worked for me every time I've made it to the loop. I've cleared the game bombing more than twice with many lives in stock, but got no loop.

Well, I've broken 13 million after hundreds and hundreds of attempts to 1CC with over 13 million points. Goddamn, I think I'm done with this game for now. I need a break.

The Progear guide in Strategy forum really, really fucking helped me a lot with the scoring after reading up on the jeweling thing over and over. Kudos to AWJ, and the rest of the guys for the info.

Does anyone know if US version has 2nd loop, or is that for the Japanese version?

Anyways, my score:

ArrogantBastard - 13,252,760 - ALL CLEAR - Bolt/Nail

Edit: Hmm, what should I 1CC next? Maybe I should go back to working on DoDonPachi before I got distracted by Progear... ;)

Strange things happening ...

I was playing the US version and couldn't seem to break 7 million.

So I gave the Japan set a try. First try I end up 1cc'ing the first loop. I've never even played the last level or boss before.

Japanese version (defaults)

Landshark - 13,162,370 - 1-ALL - B-Gamma

Hahaha, I'm going to take a break from the game for a week or so. Hopefully I'll be able to enter 2nd loop (if possible according to NTSC-J), and knock you out of your place. ;)

Sounds to me like some emulation defect. The "gamma" label isn't used in the JP version either, are you sure you played what you thought you did?

Hahah. I don't know if it was actually labelled "gamma". I made a guess on what it was. It was the bottom most selection of the 3.

I had seen some scores labelled "alpha beta gamma" so I just put mine as gamma.

It was the 2nd character, 3rd weapon choice.

It was definitely the JP set. Noticeably more difficult than the US board.

Finally managed to get a 1CC. I had 4 lives at the beginning of level 5, and then finished with 0 lives and 0 bombs.

Had a couple of weeks where the monitor was Yoko...

ill6 - 6,844,820 - 1/4 - Bolt/Nail

No point in mentioning it really as it puts me in position 10 (sob)!

Goddamn, the second loop for this game is really brutal. I barely made it through 2-1 with no life and 1 bomb remaining.

New high score for US table:

ArrogantBastard - 26,132,840 - 2-2 - Bolt/Nail

Edit: ~Kid Icarus~, it's your turn to one-up me now, son. ;)

Nice job on that score, ArrogantBastard. I've only been able to make it to the second loop once so far.

So does anyone know the exact formula for loop reqs? I know someone posted an estimation before.

NTSC-J said something about using 2 bombs throughout the first loop, which will enable you to enter the second loop. No mention was made about whether how many times you died would affect it.

Odd thing is... I bombed three times and died twice on the first loop, and I still made it into second loop.

If you bombed 3 times and died twice than that is proof that it is something like...

Bombs + Lives used < ***

Which makes sense. Someone can figure it out.

A few days ago I ran some tests to try to figure out the loop requirements. I used save states to no miss/no bomb the first loop up until the final boss' last form with 9 lives in stock.

A few of the more interesting tests:

Die 9 times, bomb 2 times - Loop
Die 9 times, bomb 3 times - No Loop
Bomb 3 times, die 1 time, then bomb 3 more times - Loop
Bomb 3 times, die 1 time, then bomb 3 more times, then die again - No Loop

So it appears the formula for the loop is ( (bombs + deaths <= 7) || (bombs <= 2) ). I'm not 100% sure this is correct but it should be close.
