Hmm, i'm having a tech job (anything from designing a website to make it run under a CMS plus a lotta other fun things), too and it is awesome aswell. I can run around like a homeless if I want to, can come and leave when I want to and I even get good money.

Maybe you're in the wrong job, GP?

I'm a graphic designer for a publishing company. I'm hoping to move up to one of 3 art director positions currently open within my company.

Over summer I work at a medical equipment provider (read: wheelchair store). All my coworkers are caring, kind people, yet the kind of nutjob only central Virginia plus three hours of Rush Limbaugh every day can produce. My boss in particular, but don't get me wrong. I'd still jump on a grenade for that guy, he's like a father to me.

The best kind of wheelchairs are the 30 grand ones with special hydraulic systems, we get to play with them and race them on the street. The negative ass-spect of the job is the daily reminder that there are things worse than death. I can't go into detail due to patient confidentiality, but generally speaking after a nasty car wreck sometimes you're better off dead. Head trauma can (CAN) mean a lowered IQ (sub 70(retardation) if severe), loss of all motor skills, inability to communicate, disfigurement that is disturbing to look at, etc. It's rough on the parents, you're left with a pile of medical bills and your kid is, effectively, dead. It's really tragic. Someone who may have been on track to be a high school valedictorian will have to learn to tie their own shoes again.

Sorry if this didn't make any sense, I've been up all night

I am hate to sound gloom and doom, but I do wish for death rather than being in vegitated state. My family is also respect how I feel if I were to be in such a position - Pull the plug. Death can be more peaceful rather than being a pile of whatevers just wasting away doing nothing.

Sorry for off topic.

I'm at my job now yay - doing online transactions with the rail road.

Sysadmin for a rural hospital. Dream job. The only thing that could make my job better (other than less whining from users) is if I could get a job at my hometown hospital for more money.

Patient Admin for the NHS, which has made me re-assess my definitions of work-related stress, deadlines, and inept management.

Thankfully I'm moving to the information department as of next month though, looks like its going to be lots of database work.

I just got out of college with a degree in Japanese. I'm going over there in September to see my sweetie and hunt for a job. In the meantime, I'm building up cash by washing dishes at a local restaurant. It is both as good and as bad as you can imagine it being.

Retail monkey, EXTREMELY part-time layout artist for HGM, think I mentioned before. A friend's trying to get me to join him at CustomInk, but I really dread the idea of joining D.C. traffic =p

if you dont have to take anything with you- get a motorcycle :) my job entails i have some tools (and I've brought a bag of hand tools expecting an easy job before and been screwed :P) but I've beaten some nasty bay area traffic before :) I dont know other states lawas about splitting lanes, but I'm assuming they're similiar as CA usually has ass-laws.

CA is one of the few states that allows lane-splitting. I think it may be the ONLY state, actually, but I'm not 100% sure.

Unfortunately in the DC area a motorcycle doesn't really beat traffic. Unless you can manage to plan a route that has HOV lanes the whole way (and I'm not even sure those help all that much in some areas)

My understanding is that California is the ONLY state that allows "white lining"

Assistant instructor at the Gracie Barra Brazilian jiu jitsu academy. That's the one I like but it pays very poorly. I did just do my first private lesson which is $50 an hour. Hopefully I get more of those.

As far as making the kind of loot it takes to pay the bills, I do all kinds of commitment-free stuff that requires no formal education. My only personal requirements are that I find something enjoyable about the work and that my employer treats me with proper respect. All the money in the world isn't worth being treated poorly. Recent work has included but is not limited to: Framing a huge addition on my buddy's house, retarded amounts of soldering at a friend's performance venue/recording studio, training a friend's dog, driving a forklift at my buddy's screenprinting shop, building a fancy hi-tech grow room for a flamboyant wannabe ganja farmer who is just going to fuck it all up and probably end up incarcerated, and bouncing the occasional bar/party. Lately I've been existing mostly on the proceeds from downsizing my collections of videogames, comic books and records. There are three new puppies in my neighborhood too so I imagine I'll get the call for some obedience work in the next few months.

I have nothing but fun 99% of the time. That's how work should be.

Because the original school is located in Barra da Tijuca, part of your fair city :) Here's a link to some info on the history of GB http://www.graciebarraamerica.com/estpria%20gbarra.htm The "history" link also has articles on the history of Brazilian jiu jitsu and Carlos Gracie Jr if you're interested.

Yeah, that's what I wondered :)

Barra da Tijuca is the most "elite" neighborhood in this city, and saying something is from Barra makes you look more important...

I thught they could had tried to bring this "importance" of the Barra name to other countries :)

That's funny because our school is in a developing neighborhood in Seattle called Ballard. When I first moved here I lived in Ballard and it was nothing but crusty old fishermen and young crazies looking for a stiff drink/fight. Now as the wealthy real estate developer told me just yesterday "Ballard is the hottest zipcode in this city right now". There are condominiums going in next door to the school that will sell for more than a million bucks at the low end.

So "Gracie Barra Ballard" is double |337

And you have just witnessed my first and hopefully last application of leetspeak on the internet.

During the school year, I am a Sociology student. During the summer, I am a trash man. Rather interesting job. My lack of a sense of smell certainly makes it easier.

Ah, brackets are mandatory for "Prof".

Currently doing a Ph.D. in cognitive sciences, as the official line. In practice I play with children and my colleague Kermit, we pretend to be interested in what the children have to say about Winnie the Pooh, Tigger and other guys. I get paid for this but that's a merit of Kermit, not mine :?
