for zap:
I know you meant mission mode, but i mean which level after that? Getting a Master Driller is excellent, but it matters which level you've done it in. You can choose between 5 different levels Easy (500m), Normal (1000m), Hard (2000m), North Pole (2000m), or Outer Space.
Let me know which level, and exactly what your score was!
for iatneH:
If you can only get 1 arcade version, get Mr. Driller G. This version has 5 main modes;
500m, 1000m, 2000m, North Pole (a harder 2000m), and Outer Space (Infinite mode!!!)
And it has a time attack mode as well!
Additionally, it has 6 selectable characters, instead of just 2 in Mr. Driller 2. It's similar to the PS1 version, except it's better since the gameplay is slightly messed up in the PS1 version. If you want details, you can always ask...it has to do with the memory limitations of the PS1.
The one thing the PS1 version has going for it is the music. The OST is fantastic. Unfortunately, the arcade version of G has the exact same OST as the arcade version of Driller 2. In many ways, it's just an upgrade of part 2.
However, if you can afford it, get Mr. Driller 2 also! This game is absolutely fantastic as well, but only offers 3 of those 5 modes up there (it doesn't have North Pole or Outer Space). It is missing the Time Attack, and lastly, only has 2 selectable characters instead of 5. However, it shares the unique distinction of being the only Driller game that was never ported to a console (I'm not counting the GBA version...that thing is not even remotely like the arcade version).
Mr. Driller 1 is the worst version to own, as it only has 2 modes: 500m and 1000m, as well as only 1 selectable character. If you devote some time to it, you can master this game much much faster than the other games. Just not challenging enough in the long run.
In the long run, if you plan to really master the games, Mr. Driller G will last longer as there are 5 modes to master, and the last 3 are brutally hard. It will most likely take you ages to master. That's probably the only reason that it's essentially the only version of Driller that still exists in Japanese arcades.
Only buy others if you have spare cash to spare and you're a driller nut like me! The good thing is, these games are cheap (about 50 bucks a pop!), so it's much easier to collect than, say, shmups.
Hope that was helpful!
