with the pills and shit, you can only chalk that up to the occasional hormone unreliability and the dangers of having only the female be responsible for the contraception when the male being responsible (ergo, putting a condom on his dick) further diminishes the chances of pregnancy at least a hundredfold and places the burden on equal ground!
also if people always didn't do things under the pretense of "just being sure" you'd be sure a lot of technological and social advances would've not happened. not saying sex contributes to this at all, but just saying.
