What are the best GameCube games?
unless I missed it; still not listed:
Kururin Squash is an absolute pleasure to play. The characters and art style are pure sugar, and the gameplay is soothing yet at times frustratingly challenging. It is refreshing to play a game where the levels are brief and easy to restart or repeat for a better time or 100% coin collection. When I screw up a level I can't forward through the restart menus fast enough to get another go at it. ( that's not to say they're cumbersome, the menus and entire game design are streamlined and intelligent)
Over the weekend I began playing Twilight Princess. Oddly enough I found myself wanting to return to Kururin Squash and Chaos Field. Which is what I did (only 2 hours into Zelda, and I feel like I'm wasting my time).

I have:
Resident Evil 1 (Also known as REmake/mix? I enjoy what they did with it, but I hadn't played the original, but I like the older RE's anyway. It looks purdy. Worth picking up, might be experimental if you don't know what RE 1-3 is like compared to 4.)
Resident Evil 4 (must-have)
Tales of Symphonia (Personally, I trudged through it. The battle system is engaging and grabs you, even if its a button-masher. The characters are laughable. I think it just suckered 80 hours from my life.....somehow. Cartoony graphics, music by Motoi Sakuraba (but all midi, it's so-so for Sakuraba))
Baten Kaitos (This RPG is pretty solid. The card based battling is pretty fun, and your food card items will rot, and you get lots of rotten food which you can use to damage the enemy. Ha! The graphics are the must luscious you'll find on the Cube. I recommend picking it up. It has some memorable characters. The main character ain't the quiet sensitive type per Squaresoft or anything. He's boisterous and obnoxious and courageous. Features memorable tracks by Mr. Sakuraba)
Twilight Princess (It could've been more difficult, my main complaint. Otherwise generally fun.)
Metroid Prime (Hanen't played a lot of it... I got stuck in the beginning =( )

Seconded, although I didn't finish it. I have a horrible habit of forgetting about games I've played halfway through. They were still fun but I get distracted and never come back.Rob wrote:I just played through this and it's quite good, so top 5 for GC. One of the best strat/RPGs since FF Tactics and not that long. Seems to have slipped under the radar.Rob wrote: I'm also looking into Fire Emblem, but who has played that one?
I bought P.N.03 and I'll agree that it's a good game. My one problem with it is how un-agile Venessa seems. The dodging is the only 'agile' aspect of her.

Gamecube was a great system, contrary to popular opinion. What it lacked in quantity, it made up for in quality. IMO, the "must plays:"
Resident Evil 1 (remake)
Resident Evil 4
Zelda Wind Waker
Super Mario Sunshine
F-Zero GX
Ikaruga
Metroid Prime
Killer 7
Viewtiful Joe
Beyond Good and Evil
Timesplitters 2
Batallion Wars
Pikmin
Pikmin 2
Luigi's Mansion is worth a play through. It's short, but very sweet.
That's all I can think of off of the top of my head.

Since this thread's been resurrected, I might as well ask:
I have the PS2 version of Resident Evil 4, and I've played through it plus a bit of the bonus modes. I thought it was a quality title but a teensy bit overrated. Is it worth it for me to pick up the GC version for the better graphics, or is the PS2 one good enough?

My personal favorite's would be:
Metroid Prime 1 & 2: I love the series (well, except for what's been released on the DS *bleh*), and these 2 are some of the best 3D transitions I've played. Definitely not you're tradition FPS games. They are slower and methodical--almost to a negative since the series has been known as much for it's speed as for it's exploration qualities.
TLoZ: Wind Waker: I was hugely skeptical, but it ended up being one of my favorites (can't really decide between it and Twilight). The ocean just captured a since of solitude that I haven't quite felt in a game before which is completely juxtaposed by the thrill of seeing land. Although, it does get a bit repetitive at parts, and some of the islands could have used a little more work.
Honorable Mention:
Eternal Darkness: The storyline is really what captured me; the whole sanity thing was just a lame gimmick that was more annoying than scary.
I do have to say, this is the most I've heard P.N. 03 mentioned in a long time. It was definitely...different, but I didn't find much enjoyment out of it.

I bought it a while back, and thought it was very good. I recommend it, definitely.Rob wrote:My legit and joke answer in one: Sonic Mega Collection. The only games I'd remotely recommend are widely known to be good.
I'm also looking into Fire Emblem, but who has played that one?

Well, it's the same exact game, but I think the graphic difference is really noticable, especially if you turn on progressive scan.PFG 9000 wrote:Since this thread's been resurrected, I might as well ask:

I would definitely upgrade, if you like the game, and can find it cheap.

I really enjoyed Fire Emblem as well. I'll eventually get the sequel for the Wii.
Anyway, these stood out in my mind:
F-Zero GX
Fire Emblem
Ikaruga
Baten Kaitos - (interesting RPG system, even has a shmup mini-game)
Viewtiful Joe - Cool 2D beat 'em up with time slowing ability
Super Monkey Ball 1/2 - I hit a brick wall in both games, but I got them cheap and it was fun. Also has some enjoyable mini-games for 2-4 players.

$60 actually, now all I have to get a US Gamecube and F-Zero. Anybody willing to ship it to me for cheaps?Neon wrote:I still don't get why you need a $30 cable for component video. Stupidest design flaw ever, and in an otherwise well-made system
I'm kind of wondering if I need Drill Land since I already have Ace, Great, and 1

Just seconding Resident Evil (aka REmake). Very solid traditional horror game all-around. The pre-rendered environments still look great, and maybe it's due to being more of a Silent Hill fan, but I really like the elegant / grimy atmosphere it has. It even controls pretty well, contrary to the image of old RE, and has some nice gameplay ideas like a nasty penalty for not destroying zombie corpses.
