These level 1 runs are seriously insane. I'm getting my ass handed to me regularly, didn't think I had the patience for this sort of thing anymore if I'm honest. Yeah, a smhup might knock me around a bit, but I'm only ever 10-20 minutes away from another run. This, I've spent hours trekking around getting pasted, achieving precisely nothing, and yet I simply can't stop playing. I think the difficulty is such, for me at least, that the sense of accomplishment when I do make a breakthrough... god it's immense. I was jumping around the front room pumping fists and screaming like an idiot after finally beating the gargoyles. Quite easily I may add, thanks to some of you kind fellows above. Makes me feel like gaming did when I was a kid I think, an all too rare thing these days.

I can understand the challenge of a lvl 1 run, but seriously, you can't use most of the spells, weapons and armor in the game. Since you are this masochistic, are you even using weapons, armors, and spells or just punching people naked?

My patience is pretty endless but not that endless. People have taken Four Kings using a naked melee pyromancer - there's a vid on Youtube. There is no way in hell I'd bother. It's going to be pretty much impossible to pull off once the newer patches are out.

I can use a variety of (even high tier) spells, fire/lightning/divine/etc low tier weapons (and still pull off anywhere between 300-500 dmg, depending on opponent), and even Havel's Armour at level 1. I have over 65 poise and can survive a two-handed R2 Zweihander attack without flinching. See you in Undead Burg!

I kept casting Strong Magic Shield to take down Four Kings on my first run through and they were still a bitch. I understand that NG+ puts everything at around 2.5x as tough so I'm sure by the time I make it to them I might just put the controller down. It's probably not even emotionally healthy for me to fight them again :x

Fuck the Capra Demon. First go, took half his health before he nailed me, thought I'd have him beaten same night. Next ten attempts, I can't get more than a few steps into the room before he fucks me up. Getting frustrated now.

^ Run to the top of the steps, kill dogs, range attack boss, jump off when he follows you & repeat

After confusing New Londo as the location of the 2nd bell and spending hours getting owned by the ghosts, I choose the Depths route into Blightown, good place for humanity plus I had my first PVP invasion. Currently in blighttown, big place. (fucking flies)

Soul arrows are the key to those little bastards. One shot from the weakest version is enough to take 'em out. I imagine a locked-on bow/crossbow shot from the hip would do the trick too.

ARGH can't kill that Knight Lotric asshole you have to invade. Him and his buddies are buff as hell. And the shields! They do nothing!

I made a review of this game.

It was difficult not to scream 10/10 GAME OF THE YEAR in every paragraph, since I'm pretty biased and love the series. I can't honestly do that unless I've played all hits this year, including (ugh..) Skyrim, which is probably not going to happen.

I really like the Paladin Armor that Leeroy drops (he invades before Nito), and his weapon is pretty great as well if you have high Dex.

Finally got the trophies for all rare weapons and all miracles. Holy balls there's a lot of hoops to jump through to get those. I think the only trophies I have left is to max magic and occult weapons, at least I saved some easy ones for last.

Something's been annoying me. You know how when Patches turns up at Firelink and starts slagging off other characters? Well I'm sure he mentioned a character I haven't heard of. The wiki doesn't give dialogue about anyone other than Lautrec and Petrus. Can anyone remember another name or did I just imagine it?

Cleric. It's a type of character class. Always say "no" so you can buy Mask of the Father/Mother/Child and some Humanity from him at a later date. He eventually crawls into Firelink.

He's also a good source of Humanity. Punch him, use Dark Hand's R2, absolve sin, repeat. Went from 28 to 31 Humanity like this, would have been more if my covenant level were higher.

Got my ass handed down to me by Four Kings on my first meeting with them yesterday.

I must say I dont like this fight, what the heck is that ? No background ? All those bosses have the same design ? What is the story beyond the abyss ? Meh ?

I don't think I've ever been able to dodge the purple attack from them. It's probably possible but it's really difficult to draw distance when everything is pitch black.

I think the lack of background makes it a much harder fight than it should be.

Which purple attack? You cannot roll dodge the slower one, but you can time it out.

Yeah, the one that times out after 15 seconds. Problem is I could never predict where the first king would spawn, therefore I was always too far away and therefore they would always cast the attack at the beginning of the fight.

The four kings fight is just brainless melee button mashing contest. You can beat them on even at level 1 if you just equip an armor with high defense like the stone set. You don't need any mobility in the fight so you can just go past 75% equip burden and have 100 poise. The thing is that that each of the bosses do pitiful damage once you get into melee range so with 100 poise you can just mash away, you shouldn't even need that good of a weapon or you can just use combustion which works/worked well.

Also, getting pardoned for you sins doesn't/shouldn't restore NPC humanity so you can't farm them endlessly with the dark hand. Most useful NPCs to farm are the 3 clerics and the woman, pretty sure they all give around 20-30 humanity.

Having so much gear that you're unable to move is probably not a good idea against the Four Kings, simply because being distances from them will make them hurl projectiles at you.

Dude, this is the most awful idea in Soul's games. I've lost that count too though

I must say I definetely enjoy voicing in this game. Two noticeable things about that :
- Sigmeier actually talks like his head was in a ... onion shaped steel helmet ? And this is true !
- Are you back for more of my moss ? Veeehh ehhhh heeeee ehhh heeee

In my opinion, this even beats the "wooh, what can I do for you ?" from Diablo the first.

What are your best dialog parts in the game ?

Sigmeier is definitely fan-favorite material. The Patrick Stewart-esque Frampt is pretty great too. All the NPCs just have great personalities, which is amazing given how few lines each of them has. I've been doing a lot of business with the defeatist merchant in Sen's Fortress - just the right blend of pessimism and sarcasm.

I just made myself my first unique weapon - Quelaag's blade. Decided to go for broke and just throw all my demon shards at it, coz it looks freaking awesome and plays pretty well too.

I also loved that crestfallen warrior in the shrine, also pessimistic at will. A shame I had to kill him in New Londo when he turned Hollow...

About Queelag's blade, I dont find it that powerful. For instance, my +6 fire falchion, even if a little slower, deals more damage and has better range. However, Queelag' sword scales with humanities held, thus certainly reveals its true power when you have a lot of them. Plus, it looks reaaaaally cool.

Patch is out for the American version. And now I really regret buying the UK version... support the dead PAL game scene though, right?
