What [not shmup] game are you playing now?
Re: What [not shmup] game are you playing now?
Watching your replay made me wonder what the game would have been like if they had made the series brawlers instead of a fighting games, as the source code for the first game indicates they were originally going to do.
Either way, great replay, very well done.

I concur! I want to love AoF2 so bad, but man, that zooming features actually makes me feel a bit nauseated. Damn shame!BIL wrote:Nice, will watch now.I love AOF2's whole aesthetic, the enormous sprites and lavish backgrounds just scream of the early/mid 90s when the Neo was still the overgod industrial strength 2D crunching machine.

So badass, just got my first solo clear with Engineer. Coincidentally it was my 5th clear, so I also unlocked the Mercenary.

Finishing south park. Gonna start dark souls 2 right after. Got the new donkey Kong as well and have all three earthbound games. Earthbound zero is a reproduction cast for my nes and mother 3 is a repro cart for my Gameboy Advance. The snes earthbound is soooooooooo good. I love it. Never played it as a kid even though my cousin brought it over.

Cave Story. Fucking awesome.

Yeah, I'm a huge fan of Cave Story (the original at least, I haven't played it since Nicalis got all over it).
I think I played through all of the endings at least once at some point

I'm playing Cave Story+. I found out about a version made for the 3DS but I'm not sure whether I should touch that one.
Anyway, I got the normal ending, and am currently playing again to get the good ending. I'm at the hidden version of the final cave, which is the bane of my existence!

Still playing Bravely Default, but listening to "Re:Birth II Romancing SaGa Battle Arrange -Sen-" made me want to try out SaGa 2 and 3 on the Nintendo DS, since the current translation patches aren't getting more progress.
Nice music, decent graphics, story is still early to say if it's decent or not. The battle system is similar to Final Fantasy II, which i didn't like much, but i'll give it a chance. Maybe i'll set up a WonderSwan emulator to try the first SaGa remake, even if it's not translated.

The SaGa remake has been translated! It's also similar to Final Fantasy II, a game I did like, at least after the GBA & PSP ports ironed-out some annoyances. SaGa's definitely better, though, and more challenging, and since the game's only about six hours long it doesn't overstay its welcome.

Metal Gear Acid 2 [PSP].
Why did I stop playing this [answer: my PSP1000 fell ages ago and I lost all my progress, so I couldn't be arsed to restart]? It's pretty enjoyable.
Silly things: 3D mode -- sure, it's not the worst idea, but it's not a good one for this kind of game [since it halves the resolution -- the resulting display reminding me of a 2003-era color Nokia phone but in 3D].

Re: What [not shmup] game are you playing now?
After a LONG break from pretty much any gaming whatsoever, I got around to installing some old-ish games I'd purchased recently.
Hostile Waters: Antaeus Rising - If you liked controlling Warthog in Halo: Combat Evolved (PC) with mouse and keyboard (I did), you should give it a chance. Not that I have any idea how to force resolution any higher than 640x480 (a shame if you're into game engines of that era). Better gameplay than Battalion Wars II, even if it's not saying much. Speaking of which, Hostile Waters would make tons of sense on the Wii (after Rogue Squadron, Sniper Elite and TrackMania, it wouldn't even be all that surprising).
Characters' faces (as shown in real-time cutscenes) have aged rather well. You can tell who the good guys are judging by the looks (and voice acting), but I doubt it could be helped at the time. It's not The Bouncer or Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance (same year), but neither could 3D accelerators the game was made for have pulled off those. It was 2002 when Mafia outclassed everything on PC in this regard.
Joystick support kind of sits there, of minuscule relevance, considering how sufficient the mouse and keyboard controls are.

3DS actually has two versions. One is more of a straight port with extras from Cave Story+ on the eshop and the other is the polygonal remake that was sold at retail. I found the former to be a nice port, but I heard the latter plays ok, but has the usual shortcomings of 2D games redone with polygons.Lord Satori wrote:I'm playing Cave Story+. Re: What [not shmup] game are you playing now?
I played a bit of Tekken 2 on PSX this week. I forgot just how balanced and good the game is.
Been playing through the single player portion of it, and challenging my wife occasionally in 2p. Man I kick ass with Baek and Jack-2.
While I still like Soul Blade a bit more, especially the aesthetics and music, this game holds up way better than I thought it would, one of the best fighters on the original Playstation

Dark Souls 2 ... sadly it lost part of it's "magic" with all that attention and influence from BAMCO

Re: What [not shmup] game are you playing now?
GGXXAC, LB2 and Samurai Spirits 2&4. I love to play fighting games with friends.

Re: What [not shmup] game are you playing now?
Played one mission of Dynasty Warriors on PSP, made it through by the skin of my teeth with only a sliver of health the last five stages or so...ugly, shit game.
Also played up to the second boss in Dariusburst, ehh, kind of nonplussed by it. I'll try again later.

Finished Bravely Default! Haven't had this feeling since the days of PSX RPG's from Squaresoft...
Gonna play some more Super Mario 3D Land, then i'll either buy some other game (maybe Fire Emblem: Awakening, if i can get it cheap), or wait until May for Kirby Triple Deluxe.

Re: What [not shmup] game are you playing now?
Bare Knuckle 3 [MD].
Man, when did I forget how this game worked?
Am I so bad now that Shiva kills me? I ran into his flip kick 5 times. The fuck is wrong with me?
Also, the tracks that play on the first stage are really neato. Except for when fighting Ash [of course]. Gets the blood flowing.
spent a good two lives trying to figure out why X, Y, and Z weren't doing anything, turns out that I accidentally was in 3 button mode in PicoDrive and even if I wasn't, somehow my bindings for them weren't mapped anyway
It just feels so good to stunlock some fuckers, notice a guy come up from behind, press z to smack him in the face, and then kill the 2-3 others I'd been punching repeatedly.
and man, running/side rolling are so ideal

I still wonder why they kicked Miyazki off. I mean, it's still hard as Hell. So, I wonder why he was removed. It doesn't make sense.keropi wrote:Dark Souls 2 ... sadly it lost part of it's "magic" with all that attention and influence from BAMCO

I started playing 'Destroy All Humans!' On the original Xbox, really entertaining, goofy fun. The game is really, not very good, but the setting, style and humour make up for it.

This is at least 75% of popular games on the Xbox, thoughbroken harbour wrote:The game is really, not very good, but the setting, style and humour make up for it.

Also just finished my Milla playthrough of Tales of Xillia, so I've finished that twice now as well.
Still have a lot to complete in the game, but I might have to start a 3rd New Game+ to get it all. Some of the side quests are missable, will probably need a guide.
Also have yet to take on Magnus Zero, so that should be interesting.

Re: What [not shmup] game are you playing now?
Finished Bomberman 94 and GunLord. Both of which pissed me off pretty bad with their final bosses. I wouldn't have expected Bomberman to put up such a fight.
Finished up Ground Zeroes pretty quickly. Gonna take a look at those side missions, and try to find all the XOF patches.
Just starting up a game of Valkyria Chronicles 3, now that's it's been patched.
Plate is full.

Why can't you play the 360 versions? As far as I can tell, they are on the US Xbox Live Marketplace under Indie games. Not sure if they are available in Europe, though.KAI wrote:Jewelry Master [PC]
