Why would Cave pay extra to have the game region-free when its been released in all other territories?

That's a shame, I was going to pledge some support for RSG too. I won't if I can't play it.

Anyone having trouble with the Achievements on Deathsmiles? I'm not, but my friend has completed it and managed only to get the "get familiar" one for moving his familar?!

Pay attention to the modes listed in the achievements.

Only 2 of them are glitched. These are the ones for clearing 1.1 and for 1ccing 1.1 at level 3 with Extra stage, where they don't unlock in Score Attack.

Also, you must use default settings and never use Restart to Restart a stage. There may be an exception for the TLB achievement since you could change settings for Futari's 1.5 TLB achievement and use Restart, but I don't know if that's the case for Deathsmiles.

That might explain some, but he doesn't even have "Opening Salvo - Played any mode once", how can he possibly have not got that but still have "Getting Familiar" :?:

Also, he's been playing in Xbox mode so his boss achievements should unlock?

Well you probably know more than me. I didn't really ask that far since I'd already bought it online.

That one doesn't unlock if you're playing Score Attack.

On the achievement note, thanks to tvtropes I just learned of an achievement I would NEVER HAVE FIGURED OUT on the achievement list.

The one I'm referring to is the one for completing MBL in 2 player mode with Player 1 as Sakura and Player 2 as anyone else, with Player 2 choosing the "Leave" ending, Sakura gets a hidden 3rd ending and the achievement pops.

I thought it was player 1 was not Sakura and player 2 was Sakura. At least I'm pretty sure that's how I got it on the NA version. Maybe it doesn't actually matter which one has Sakura.

Maybe not, after all Sakura cannot be asked, she always does the asking.

I haven't quite got the hang of the item counter "recharge" trick, yet. I think I'm locking on/bombing at the right times, but it isn't happening for me. Is anybody else pulling this off consistently?

Go post on their forum, they respond in decent time, they even gave out an e-mail for those who want a re-print of the OST disc that can work in CD players.

I looks like the PAL version isnt selling too well http://gamrreview.vgchartz.com/sales/34131/deathsmiles/

Still considering its a Febuary release theres no way in hell it would of sold anywhere near the US version as Aksys smartly released during a very quiet period so that many review sites picked it up due to the fact that there was nothing else.

Hopefully the pal version will have a long tail just like the other RF Cave games so that RSG can make enough money off it. I wonder it that DS demul emulation video and the DS iphone annoucement had any impact, probably not but I want something to aim my nerd rage at if DFK and DS2 go stateside only

Any reasonably smart business man should know that making a commerical game out of a game that's already easy to emulate for free is only going to nab you money if you've made the emulated version redundant by extra features, which is what Rising Star Games and Cave have done. It's easy to blame the Demul guys but not right.

I was impressed to see this already in Game last week, but disappointed that it wasn't in the New Releases section. Instead, it was buried near the back with other cheaper titles.

This. [well, not exactly this, it was another store]
So I did what any responsible fanboy would do: I took the single last copy they had and put it into the new releases shelf, hoping someone would buy it so they'd have to re-order the game.

Must admit, the same thing crossed my mind, except it was to put a few copies under #1 chart title.

I don't think those EU sales are too bad. They're probably looking at around 20K total lifetime sales, which is pretty respectible for a budget title. I'm a little surprised it didn't do a bit better given the size of the European market, but I reckon they'll be happy with those numbers.

I bought two copies as I would easily buy one for double the cost (£17) and I have a sealed copy which may or may not go up in value. I also bought a slim Xbox 360 to play it.

I love this game I play it several hours a day on my Hori EX2 that I bought quite a while ago for MAME.

I think part of the Problem is, that this game costs 30-40€ outside of the UK.

PAL stuff rarely does anything except fall in value. May as well give it away as a gift.

So, a question concerning the PAL version. Do you guys know how big a difference there is between the Arcade and 360 mode? While I would like an experience as close to the arcade as possible the new graphics sure look nice, you know?

Close to the arcade as possible is arcade mode without a shadow of a doubt.

I never got to play Deathsmiles in the arcades :( , so I can't comment on the quality of the port, but the graphics are up there with Metal Slug 3 and Three Wonders. Digging the big lush colourful sprites and layers of juicy parallax scrolling, and the modern game mechanics are blowing my mind, loving it. The way Cave have combined the artistry of the 2D graphics, and animation of the pre-rendered 3D sprites really impressed me.

I'm also impressed by the screen position adjustments, and the zoom and stretch, but for the life of me I can't understand the complete lack of any scan-line options, a low definition game like this is screaming out for them. The Smooth option is no compensation, it appears to be just a soft blur, rather than actual anti-aliasing, can't imagine anyone actually using it. Please correct me if I'm wrong on this.

In my opinion, Risingstar games have done an excellent job with DS. Although with the deluxe edition, I would have appreciated a little Manga/Art book included, like the one I got with Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Certainly would have made this edition more collectable.

Hope you guys are all enjoying this game as much as I am. :D
