Re: Shmup Ticker: What are you playing RIGHT NOW?
I just bought the black label DLC for Mushihimesama Futari; just took every mode for a quick spin, and I have to say, all the black label modes are FAR easier than 1.5;
in original the slowdown is absolutely insane, and I managed to no-miss that the first two stages in God Mode on my first try (keep in mind I still can't beat the first stage on ultra mode despite owning the game for 1-2 years now)! Also the scoring system has become ridiculously inflated.
Sadly, I'm seeing the freeze bug now, even in 1.5 now; it only seems to be occurring during intros and boss explosions at least (for now).
Wouldn't have any complaints if it wasn't for the fucking freeze bug; seriously, didn't Cave promise to iron out that bug back when the DLC was released?

Re: Shmup Ticker: What are you playing RIGHT NOW?
Did you try installing the Black Label DLC to a USB stick drive?
Re: Shmup Ticker: What are you playing RIGHT NOW?
If you have a 4gb model then installing it to the internal flash memory works fine too.

Re: Shmup Ticker: What are you playing RIGHT NOW?
I put Battle Bakraid back in my cab yesterday after a four or so year hiatus and the magic came flooding back. After a couple of runs, I knocked the 10 million point Axebeak trick, chained big chunks of Naval and Seaside, and died at the first form of Gigamanta. I almost forgot how epic the boss rush at the end of Cloud is and how many great bullet patterns the bosses have. I guess it's time to start going for a Kaiser-esque clear of Advanced mode.
Feedback will set you free.

For whatever reason I don't seem to have any usb drives around here; I'm probably not going to bother for now since the bug hasn't screwed up a session yet.

Re: Shmup Ticker: What are you playing RIGHT NOW?
Playing Pink Sweets v1.00 again (I blame you, trap0xf!), and I remember why i've always preferred it to Muchi Muchi Pork. Going to be working on it and Battle Garegga now that I am pretty much done with Dodonpachi Saidaioujou X360-L.
Been streaming it the past weekend when I have a bit of time. Working on stage 5 and boss, as well as assorted high-rank scoring tricks.

Jamestown. I like how they combined a sort of hyper system, picking up items, a kind of light chaining system, and special ways to kill things all into one pretty fun scoring system. And the music is great. I don't really understand why they give credits that don't reset your score instead of just giving you more lives though.
Re: Shmup Ticker: What are you playing RIGHT NOW?
Gunbird 2 and Turbo Force. With Turbo Force I realized your weapon level doesn't go down if you don't shoot, which makes it a lot more reasonable. Gunbird 2 is really fun, getting closer to the loop... it will take a good run though. I think I've finally settled on Valpiro, but I was playing Aine for awhile. I actually think Valpiros non-melee charge shot is more helpful than his melee in a lot of critical places... seems to do an equal amount of damage, too?

Decided to give the original Burning Dragon for PC-98 a shot. Not a bad game, but I'm not at all a fan of checkpoints. Between the checkpoints and limited continues, I think the (what I assume to be) last boss is going to be a tough nut to crack.
Also, I think my score counter reset around 1.3 million, which is very odd. I'll have to record a video and see if it happens again/what triggers it. Hopefully I can clear it next run; I'm kind of ready to set it aside. It's fairly easy, but you lose all your powerups at recovery and the game is less enjoyable when you're not able to kill anything.

That's my favorite, though I can only get to 1-5. That game's a beast.blackoak wrote:Valpiro
Playing NES shooters currently. Only ones ranked highly on Rob's countdown. I would be playing Super Xevious NES as well (not ranked highly by Rob), but the roms haven't been cooperating.
Re: Shmup Ticker: What are you playing RIGHT NOW?
Kolibri and Power Strike II, with very sparse doses of Darius Gaiden's PS1 lower route slowdown-fest.
I'm trying to get that bloody hummingbird to the end on one life but the game's cheapness is a pain in the arse....

Re: Shmup Ticker: What are you playing RIGHT NOW?
I am currently playing a game called Savant Ascent. Well, partially for a review, and partially to try and get a high score in the game. The game is dirt cheap though, like $2, on Steam. I will repeat what I have in my review, if you do not like dubstep, do not play this one (it is based off of a universe created and centering about a dubstep artist named Savant). Simple and fast game, and endless mode is pretty fun

Hyper Duel. Reached the last boss with 3 lives in stock and...I'm posting here and not on "I DID IT!".

I think I get worse the more I play RayForce. Stage 5 really sends me in for a loop.
Also, an influx of holiday money might see me finally getting Mars Matrix, rounding out my DC shmup collection.

Re: Shmup Ticker: What are you playing RIGHT NOW?
well I actually been playing a lot of stuff Android on my S4 Mini (I know, I know), but seriously it has translated into improving my (pathetic) skills in the 'real thing' - well the SSF or MAME thing (I can't get near my consoles anymore so it's the main option for me).
My son has been playing loads of DoDonPachi Resurrection and Raiden Legacy on my phone too - pretty amazing to watch him develop from just spamming bombs to now doing cool stuff like rushing straight up in front of a boss to get as many shots in before they start firing stuff
.
He played DoDonPachi a bit on my Qanba stick and he was starting to get into it too, which is nice.
He also plays R-Type on it, which I think is actually quite an OK version those dotemu people seem to make good mobile versions.
Anyway, I also played some R-Type Delta with him, which he likes a lot.
I have also been playing a lot of Danmaku Death on the phone, I really enjoy it.
actually, can you get Danmaku Death for PC? I would play the shit out of it if you can...

Re: Shmup Ticker: What are you playing RIGHT NOW?
After getting the Ikaruga and Ibara clears over the last few days, I've started playing Mushihime-sama again. In between Ultra practice runs, I've put in some Maniac and Original runs. Gotten a couple Original clears as M and S-Power, too.
Also started playing Crimzon Clover. Really cool game.

Zanac Neo [PS1].
First time playing. Pretty fun, really! Cool soundtrack too. I can see myself playing quite a bit of this.

Honestly I'm experimenting with numerous shooters on SNES/GBA/MAME emulators. I've been trying to find one that I can try to clear now that I've cleared Ketsui Arrange.

I play Kamui a lot and try to improve my score. My stage totals get pretty close to the world record, except the final boss. I'm also slowly checking off Touhou games on my "Lunatic 1cc" list, even though this forum probably isn't full of Touhou enthusiasts.

Battle Garegga, finally. And I'm digging it. Looking to 1cc soon and get a letter score. And Batrider. Raizing got at me.

I am convinced that R-Type 2 is made for people who, in fact, hate life.
Has anyone ever made it past level 2? I doubt it. I mean real people. Not robots.

Bug Princess 2 on iOS! Pretty much my first shmup experience and I'm loving it. Can't wait to pick up Jamestown off of Steam!
Re: Shmup Ticker: What are you playing RIGHT NOW?
I got a nice score in Kamui (4th highest on this board, I believe). I'm probably going to keep working on it. It's a fun game.

Re: Shmup Ticker: What are you playing RIGHT NOW?
I rebought Thunder Force V. I sold it on the Saturn earlier this year, and now have the PS1 version, because scouring a used-game-shop had me find a nice pristine copy for cheap.
I still like it, and it's still too easy on normal. Being used to the Saturn version, I can say this: the City Level on the PS1 port looks like ass in comparison. That's the only thing I can really knock against the port. I like the little text files and shit like that.
I guess I can finally 1CC the game (not like that's a huge accomplishment!), and play around with higher difficulties (have to unlock maniac mode though, ho hum).
