I'm sure you've probably seen it - but ol' Sleepy from Mad Bull 34 is pretty badass

Go for Hakkenden, 3X3 Eyes and the Chojin Locke Series null1024.
Black Jack (OVA+Movie) is about medicine, but it's also badass as fuck.

Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
That reminds me that the unrelated comic Say Hello to Black Jack still exists. That's the one about the Japanese medical care system and its myriad minor flaws, such as having a woefully unprepared intern be the sole staff of an emergency clinic.KAI wrote:Black Jack (OVA+Movie) is about medicine, but it's also badass as fuck.

Oh brave little intern, the things your boss makes you do..
Edit: By gawd, this might be me actually _recommending_ something. First time for anything I guess?

I'm not too much of an anime fan, but if I had to pick an anime other than video game-based ones, it would have to be Nichijou. Its OPs are as exciting as rollercoaster rides, while its first ED makes me want to sleep.

Episode 7 of Aldnoah.Zero was amazing - I really like the sortof 'battle strategy' thinking bits which are kinda Code Geassy, and then it also has a weird mix in that the earthlings pretty much have 'real robots', but the Martians have Super Robotos, in fact each Knights faction seems to have a different type of Super technology they use. The latest baddie robot was even a sortof super duper Rockety Punchy machine like some mix of Great Mazinger and Kshatriya :p.

Please do. Bubblegum Crisis will never die!
... today I caught an episode of Yu-Gi-Oh Zexal on TV. God, that show makes me want to die. All the Yu-Gi-Ohs do except for the original.
Fortunately I had a means of recovering... my Samurai Pizza Cats boxed set arrived in the mail!
If you haven't seen Samurai Pizza Cats, DO SO. It is glorious!

If you are into or want to learn more about the Chinese Warring States Period (Knights of Valor games, etc.). Chockful of Game of Thrones style intrigue and lots of battle scenes on individual and battalion scales.

And Zexal II really sucks, iam 17 episodes into it and i believe Zexal I was much better.
Not as good as the original Yu-Gi-Oh!, Duel Monsters or 5D´s but still good.

Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
I saw this in a rec thread for people who liked Kingdom. Maybe after reading these manga centered on Chinese history I can finally play Knights of Valor and the numerous Koei Romance of the Three Kingdoms games.
"2300 years ago in China there existed a clan called the men of Bokk trained to aid and defend threatened cities with their lives. Kakuri, one of these men, is summoned to the little city of Ryo. Distrusted and even hated, Kakuri eventually gains the trust of Ryo's citizens as Tcho empire's vast army sets their camp on the other side of the river. Bokko won the Shogakukan Manga Award in 1995."

Probably not, the real Boko Haram manga comes with a complimentary fundie nutjob who'll hack your hands off for attempting to read it. Complain to your newsagent if you didn't receive one!

Personally, I would recommend reading the novel if you haven't already. Best. Book. Ever.

next you're gonna show me Area 88 LDs! (do they exist?)
I'm reading Area 88 manga atm, it is quite amazing how it is a great shmup which I've always loved, an outstanding OVA and the manga seems to be
even better so far, I love those little epic poems on each cover (they might be haikus, I dunno much bout that stuff).
Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
I don't see the point of collecting laserdiscs that have higher quality DVD or BD releases, unless they have particularly noteworthy extras that haven't been reprinted elsewhere.

Yep, they certainly exist. I only have the theatrical version of Area 88 on laserdisc, but I will be looking to grab all three acts of the OVA sometime in the future.Raytrace wrote:Jesus man - pure beauty - MZ23, and my love for Venus Wars both movie and manga is massive.

Rewatching Gunbuster OVA and Bubblegum Crisis OVA - they are never any less, in fact they're usually better than you can actually remember them IMO.
