Wow - who released that? I remember (cos it wasn't that long ago) going into chatrooms and begging people to put the subs i had managed to find (but were badly timed) onto it, in fact I tried to retime them myself at one stage - that's amazing I shall have to buy it :).

rewatched SDF Macross episode 26 last night - so much cool stuff in that episode, the wedding, the minmay fans revolting. I love that scene where it starts with a minmay doll looking tiny in a non micloned zentradi hand, and then he leads the revolt.

oh did you mean who released the BD, and not who did the fansub encode?
Pony Canyon released it on Blu in May, no subs at all. They released a limited edition too with the soundtrack, manga booklet and other shit. I was planning on grabbing it myself down the line.

yeah that's what I meant - the LE sounds cool I was unable to navigate their Jap site though to find it.

in a sorta similar vein - this week's Space Dandy was about being a transfer student - they really love those transfer student storylines I think. Tbh I didn't really like the episode that much at all, though art was great I'm not a big musicals fan, even though I do love Streets Of Fire no doubts :p.

Started reading All You Need is Kill.

It's shit. Weedy bastard characters and little girls again. Not even laid out in an enjoyable format, the whole twist is delivered quickly and blandly and without intrigue and the idiots who did the translation did a piss poor job. The dialogue is flat, often wrong and filled with errors, and to top it off the weeaboo tits keep putting their 'in-crowd' in-jokes in-between panels. Annoying.

I'd say the film is actually more entertaining. Gonna ditch it.

btw 'The Cockpit' is 'out there' 1080p now, I'm pretty sure there is NO risk of it being brought to the west so I think it's safe to talk of it.

I think it is great myself and the drawings and animation of the aircraft are incredible, and of course I like the Matsumoto styled part.

I just watched Puella Magi Madoka Magica.

hitting ^R instead of ^T made me lose all that I had typed, blah

Long story short, better than expected, very different than expected, and holy shit the fight at the end of episode 7 is stylish as fuck.
Marathoned it this evening, finished watching at 3am.

I honestly recommend Zero Wing.

Best anime, too bad it is so short lived.

Yes.

and now I just watched the last movie, Rebellion. [I'm assuming the previous two as recap films haven't changed anything, right? Right?]

That fucking thing took me on a trip.
Spoiler
honestly, when everything was super fine at the beginning, I was nervous as all hell, especially with how long it took for shit to get real as expected
and seeing the witch that killed Mami as her best friend/pet really had me on edge for most of the film
the Mami/Homura fight was amazing
that damn ending makes a hideous amount of sense [she was so damn obsessed with Madoka in possibly the least healthy possible way ever], but I'm still reeling a bit
Seriously, I'm only slightly less confused from watching this than after watching End of Evangelion. :P

just finished SDF Macross rewatch and watched DYRL straight after, I love em both but I definitely do just about prefer the series - it's just got that little bit more of that 70s feeling (yes I know it'e early 80s but YKWIM) - DYRL is still a masterpiece though.

Still find the Koizumi character from Haruhi innately humorous. Very studious. In this one scene when Haruhi and Kyon are dicking around with the corrupted logo on the computer, Koizy asks Kyon if he wants to play a boardgame by presenting it, and Kyon's like sorry nah, so Koizumi walks out of the camera frame. A montage passes, he's no where in sight, but then you see his back for one second in a shot. Of him derping around, just standing there HOLDING AND LOOKING AT THE SAME BOARD GAME BOX he was holding presumably 20 minutes ago. Like "ah I'm not in this scene but still have to be in the room, I'll just go over here and wait patiently."

That and his infamous reflector board while they're shooting their movie, where he has great faith that a white piece of cardboard can reflect significant amounts of light over 50 feet away.

The internet says they just injected added cuteness, removed/trimmed some scenes, replaced one exposition scene with a quick conversation in a graveyard... and changed some art and music around like deck chairs on the Titanic.

The Sayaka / Elsa Maria fight no longer uses the Decretum theme for example, which you might find to be an abomination if you're a human.

Save it for a re-watch years from now imo.

I loved Future Boy Conan, such a whimsical series. Have you seen Laputa Raytrace? If you're liking Conan, you may enjoy Laputa too as they share similar themes, and Conan+Lana are total proto Pazu+Sheeta. Probably my favourite Ghibli film, alongside Nausicaa.

I just went to the limited screening of the dubbed version of DBZ Battle of the Gods. Though I've already seen the subbed version, the dubbed version was amazing as well, plus the added bonus of being in the theater and having other people laugh along with you, thus amplifying the humor of it all.

How DARE you! :D

Yeah, I second Dane; Future Boy Conan is great stuff, and definitely proto Castle in the Sky characters. Same adventurous, fun stuff.

Not surprising you would think that as Miyazaki was the one who essentially came up with the plot outline for Nadia decades before its actual release, as he was originally hired by Toho to develop the series. Many of his ideas would go on to form the backbone of Future Boy Conan.
Toho would eventually use Miyazaki’s concepts (adapted from Jules Verne tales) on Nadia TV series much later.

He did key animation for many of the big scenes in the film. such as Nausicaa's run in with an enraged ohmu during the opening, and the reanimation of the God Warrior.
Anno was a busy person that year, also doing animation work for the trippy OVA Birth, and a little movie called Macross - Do You Remember Love.

A few things here.
Saw the original Dominion Tank Police OVA yesterday. Good stuff. Loads of style [and 80s as fuck]. Clear inspiration for the Metal Slug.
Bit somber near the end. Buaku reminds me a bit of Batou from GITS, and it's not just because of the eyes.

--
And today, I marathoned the first two seasons of Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha. First season was... okay. Took up to the half-way point before things settled in nicely, and even still it was just an "okay" series. I think I could have read up on what happened or just watched the movie instead.

Second season [Nanoha A's] was ace. Like, damn near everything was better. It's a tighter, more action-packed series. Less fanservice too [seemed tacked on when it appeared, and really, they're in third grade :P ]. Probably the only thing that's overall worse is the animation -- at no point does it reach near the movie quality framecount like a handful of scenes in the first, and there's a slightly more noticeable use of CG for things that aren't magic circles.

If it weren't for that second season, I'd be questioning why the fuck anyone told me to go watch the series [no one from here].

Also, Nanoha seems to be one of the few protagonists who realizes just how much poor communication can kill. Seriously, that's a common enough theme that it could be the the fucking tagline.
Damn shame no one seems to listen to her about that. But then again, if they did, each season would be an episode and a half long and there'd be no huge-fuck lasers being fired.

yeah I loved that OVA - pure fun- New Dominion Tank Police is great too, though I vastly prefer the art in the original - NDTP seems a lot more muted/gritty colours wise.
