Still quite jealous that you managed to score that XM29 so cheap. I've been searching craigslist every so often, but no luck thus far :(
Yeah, I kinda got too lucky I think. Surely one will show up again I imagine!

XM29 lookin' GOOD!

Proud, also, to see a surge of 20" 4:3 LCDs in tate....

I'd like to think that I was an early adopter (HA!) back in 2003 when I nabbed my IBM ThinkVision.
I got it home and realized it had a rotating mount, seconds later I realized that playing Gunbird2 in MAME would be MUCHO better if it was rotated. Ever since then, an additional 4:3 monitor in tate has become a STANDARD in my PC setup. It was only recently that I cut the cord and built a small PC specific for MAME and procured a 360 VGA cable.

My ThinkVision has a great "feature" in that it has both VGA and DVI inputs, which once populated (in my case with my PC connecting via an HDMI to DVI cable, and my 360 using the VGA) can be switched on the fly with the press of a button on the LCDs bezel.

I only recently realized this functionality, in fact it was the recent "release" of Ketsui, Garuda and DDPDOJ+BL in MAME.

Now it's got pig all over it.....

OK , long winded comment over....I'm off to rock the pork gold...

Here my Tate setup. My friend lent my his 360 VGA cable so I hooked it up to my monitor.

This is such a huge improvement over my crappy tube tv, I can finally read out text and my score now.

That's a sweet setup you've got Matskat. I've gotta figure out how to update my jtag before i can rock that pork. And I know I've said it before but I love your stick.

Thanks, man! It certainly gets a lot of playtime these days...especially since it turns out that I have a chubby porker fetish now! :)

Also, I gotta ask about your jtag 360. MMP\PS is regionfree, so what's the deal?

I really wish I could find a larger 4:3 LCD for a reasonable price. It seems absurd that 16:9 LCDs are so cheap now, where they USED to be an expensive luxury.

Just check out this link to Newegg.com :
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLi ... me=21.3%22

$800-$3000 for a 4:3 21.3" LCD?!?!?! When you can get a 26" 16:9 as a give away for buying a $300 PC at Best Buy!?!?!

Talk about sticker shock!

Sweet jesus WTF that's expensive.

The game requires an update. Whether or not a game is region free doesn't make a difference with the jtag. X360GameHack patches the "default.xex" and removes the region restrictions.

My jtag that I had bought in a few months ago is running FreeStyle Dash 1.20 on the 9199 kernel. I've been trying to find a somewhat straightforward guide to update an already jtagged system from the 9199 kernel to the 12611 kernel and to update to the newest FreeStyleDash 2.08.

I've come across these 2 guides: Updating Already Jtag'ed Console To Play Newest Games and How to upgrade a JTAG to newest dash 2.0.12611.0 & The Latest Dash Launch.

I've been pretty busy so I forgot most parts of those guides. I know that I should be able to figure it out, I just need to put some time aside so I can figure out exactly how to do it.

also these have response-times of 12, 16 or even 20ms - i guess that would disqualify them for gaming anyway?

Response time has NOTHING to do with Input Lag. Most monitors have a 2-5ms response time yet the input lag is well over 35ms. From what I've gathered any lcd monitor that has less then 2 frames of input lag (1 frame is 16ms) is considered good and anything that has less then 1 frame is pretty damn good.

According to this review my monitor averages 3.2ms of input lag with a 16ms max. I think I lucked out since my monitor has a rotatable display and 3 inputs (hdmi, dvi, vga) that I can change on the fly.

I need to update my JTAG to play MMP/PS but I know little about this kind of stuff. Too bad it can't just be patched.

Hey guys

I'm new here and I don't want to start a thread for my stupid question, and this seems like a good place for it.

I've just ordered a Japanese 360 and want to play my shmups in TATE mode. I've been looking into the best way to do this but frankly I'm a bit confused. I have an old CRT television lying around that I could flip on its side no problem. Or I could buy an LCD monitor, but I have no clue which one would be suitable. Looking around the web just seems to confuse me even more.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated !

Probably the wrong place for your post (the search function is your friend!), and the Hardware section would have been best, but as you're new here we'll let you off! Have a look at this, maybe drop a reply there and get that thread going!

Here's my arcade setup, 3 29" auto multi-scan arcade monitors. The left monitor is the one that I usually put into Tate by sliding it on the blanket it sits on to ensure that the stand doesn't get damaged.

The darius board demands to be fed and you did so nicely...you will just need to get the tubes angled correctly to get the peripheral vision thing going right. I find that old sneakers works wonder for stopping tubes/panels from slipping on smooth surfaces.

Pretty sure there's a pic of a 3x 50" setup, but I can't recall where I saw it. Here's a 2x 50" Darius setup:

Those Darius setups are sick... But this thread is about Tate, you don't win.

I was able to buy them pre-cased with brand new CRTs, a bit expensive but worth it.
