I just beat my first vertical shootemup. I've never posted a vertical to youtube so I have a question:

How do shootemup fans around here prefer watching verticals on youtube?
Do you prefer it letterboxed horizontally or do you prefer the video rotated sideways so that it fills the whole player?

I personally like having the video fill the entire Youtube box but watching a vertical shooter sideways feels just wrong to me. On the other hand doing that would be nice for people that have monitors that can rotate.

Any advice/info/opinions are appreciated!

Dont bother with tate just make sure that the image isnt blurred and the sound is in synch with the picture if it isnt then just swop it for some fitting music, Make sure the volume is at proper levels aswell. It also helps if you include any likely to be asked info in the title or info bar.

Thanks for your input, do you think these this quality is good enough? This is the best I can manage from my current software, are there programs that can do better?

My first serious attempt at a vertical shoot em up. Please give feedback on the video quality, since this my first time putting up a vertical on youtube. Thanks in advance ^^/!

I'm hoping to clear 1943: The Battle of Midway so I can add that as well.

Quality pixel-wise is fine though I suspect the aspect ratio's a little off. I could be wrong though, haven't played Battle of Midway in some amount of time.
HD videos FTW. Keep it up!

The ratio is off.
From the original 224x256 avi, it was letterboxed to 4:3 ratio, bringing it to 340x256. This only added the black boxes, the video was not stretched.
Then I scaled the entire thing to 1280x720, which does change the ratio. And then encoded to HD.

Before I committed to this though, I did a 10 second sample encoding with videos scaled to 682x512 and 1280x720. The 1280x720 looked much crisper pixelwise and less blurry. The background had scaling artifacts but I figured that during the HD encoding process the video would be cleaned up a little, and then Youtube would blur it more, so it is less visible.

To preserve the aspect ratio AND the pixel quality I could have scaled the letterboxed source video to 1364x1024, and then encoded to 1920x1080 HD. That would be ideal but it would take forever on my computer, encoding to 1280x720 already took 9 hours for each clip =/. And I'm not sure if I could fit a 15 minute long 1364x1024 raw uncompressed .avi file to my hard drive anyways 0_0;.

This was my first time, I think it turned out good enough ^^/;. Maybe next time I'll experiment with the 1080 encode.

That score isn't great, but since the scoring system is basically a mix of stalling and luck anyway...
versus videos are worth the watch, too. When both players are not playing it safe, there is more action than against the AI and the rounds last longer.

ESPGaluda II Black Label 1cc with Seseri, final score 1.16 bil. Still a beginner at this mode, but I think it was a pretty decent run. :D

A full run 1CC of the NES version of 1943, no autofire.
This score beats the current Twin Galaxies top score for this game. Not like TG is relevant at all but it still gives me a warm fuzzy :D.

Finally nailed the Guwange 1cc: stages 1 to 3, stages 4 and 5, and stage 6. That final boss sequence was a bitch to beat. Pretty pleased with this one. :P

1cc Guwange Blue Version with Shishin. This video is for demonsration purposes so it's a non-scoring run showcasing differences. I'm experimenting in some areas so you can so I only score a lousy 14mil.

A 1CC of 1943: The Battle of Midway. This was much harder than the Kai version.

Part A (stages 1-5): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MaxwSuTze2M
Part B (stages 6-10): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_1ZHlI3aWUY
Part C (stages 11-15): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKahPhelSTk
Part D (stage 16): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BFhiugTAHHk

Make sure you check out the awesome hurricane storm of planes at 3:25 of Part C.
That final stage is a tough old bastard.

Not really all that special, just me playing YGS2000 with my night time voice talking over it.
Also, I shame myself by bomb spamming Mushihime-sama's TFB pattern.
