The Typing of the Dead: Overkill [PC].
Damn fun, with brilliant presentation.
Strike Suit Infinity [PC].
Maybe I'm just bad at this, but I just want to play Omega Boost instead.

Re: What [not shmup] game are you playing now?
I bought a 3DS XL / Mario Kart bundle from Amazon for £130 (but my C/C declined). I now have 4 days to decide if I want to go ahead with the 3DS purchase (which includes 3D Land as part of the Nintendo promotion), or forget about the 3DS altogether and get the following:Skykid wrote:Well you should buy a 3DS because Zelda (and several other really first class titles), but I'm really digging Dragon's Crown at the moment - it's the reason I bought a Vita and I'm happy it's completely validated the purchase.replayme wrote:"Perhaps the best"?!?!? High praise indeed.spadgy wrote:Oh - I love my Vita - one of my favourite platforms. I've enjoyed loads of games on it. It just so happens that Tearaway is the most Vita-dependant of all those titles thus far, and perhaps the best!
What would you regard as being your top 5 games on the system (incl multi-plat) as I'm pretty new to the handheld and would like to get a few games for Christmas (assuming I don't buy a 3DS)?
It's probably not a game for everyone, and I spent the two hours or so thinking it might not be for me: but as soon as it clicks and all its multi-genre bolting falls into place, it becomes a harmonious, beautiful belt-scrolling RPG hybrid that you love to grind. It keeps on opening up too: the game seems to begin in earnest when you reach the B-routes.
Will also need to check out Tearaway, on Spadgy's lofty recommendation.

Worth keeping the 3DS solely for Zelda:ALBW. Also SMT4, FE:Awakening, 3D Land, NSMB2 (yeah, fuck you, I love it), other stuff I haven't tried yet, and the smattering of great indie games on the eshop. Also the Star Fox & Z:OoT updates, if you're into that sort of thing. If you don't already own an NDS, it's the most non-brainer of non-brainers.replayme wrote: I bought a 3DS XL / Mario Kart bundle from Amazon for £130 (but my C/C declined). Just started Diablo 3 on X360, and Finished up the new Phoenix Wright game so I started Zelda ALBW.
Re: What [not shmup] game are you playing now?
Grabbed a copy of Rogue Legacy off the current Steam sale for $5. To be honest, I'm not sure what to think of it. In theory, the combination of Roguelike and Metroidvania should be quite interesting to me, but in practice it feels just a little half-baked, the environments don't seem to have all that much variation, and the upgrade mechanics make it feel a lot more like a glorified endless runner than anything. It's still reasonably playable, but I still get the sense this type of thing could be done much better.

Thanks for that. In other news: I bought Anarchy Reigns (by Platinum) for £4 for my XBox360 yesterday. Figured it would be worth the £4 - even just for 10 minutes.Moniker wrote:Worth keeping the 3DS solely for Zelda:ALBW. Symphony of the night--haven't played this game since the late 90's. Still a great game and belongs on a list of essential games everyone must play before they die.
Cave Story--great game, never played it before. After I got my ps3 controller working on my pc, this was a no-brainer.
Edit: OMG, I forgot how bad SotN's end credit song was. Hopefully I will forget it again.

Anarchy Reigns (XBox 360)
Bought the game for £4, and it's typical of most Platinum games. Bold, brash, yet ultimately hollow. It's an interesting diversion that was able to sustain my interest for about ten minutes, but playing it makes me realise why Platinum games depreciate so quickly in value. They're just fun arcade games (like the first party Sega games for Dreamcast) that leaving you feeling bored after 10 minutes, and Anarchy Reigns does little to convince me otherwise.
Still glad I bought it though, as it's one for the collection. And a game I'll probably never touch again.

Homefront (Xbox 360)
Bought this for £2 and am finding it to be rather enjoyable. Only been playing for 10 minutes, but it's infinitely better than Anarchy Reigns, and cost me less too. Twice the gaming goodness for literally half the price. Seriously folks, if you see this cheap... pick it up.

Got a vita recently so ..
Hotline miami
and gravity rush which has realy captured my imagination, love it ...
that part when kat has to make a little room for herself in a sewer pipe because shes getting blamed for everything
Also been playing aliens colonial marines on 360. No where near as bad as people made out, and the plots actually very good compared to the majority of fps/360 games (compare to the "good" aliens games, aliens vs predator 1/2 pc )..If it didnt feature so much aliens lure i guess I wouldnt care though.
Also another "disappointing" game, "spec ops: the line". Hmm not sure about this , but i personally love the setting, use of music and the whole apocalypse now thing . Could do alot worse...

oh damn oh damn oh damn
This is why I got a 3DS. Something like this. Super-Scaler gamers in actual 3d. I still wish I could set the analog stick to not autocenter, but otherwise, it's great.

Re: What [not shmup] game are you playing now?
Grand Theft Auto V. Driving is an absolute blast in this game, but the shooting still sucks dicks. The new drive-by mechanic is utterly stupid, and whoever decided to put free aim in a console game that can barely maintain 25fps and requires controller use needs to be lynched.
Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate. Picked this up because the arcade update is coming and it's currently off by some 10 American dollars. Although it's far from being a stable game yet, I'm pleased with the new mechanics. This team definitely showed a lot more competence and will to experiment than Cookiefuckface's. Of course, there are a couple things I'm not too pleased with so far:
- Red Critical Stun threshold too big (by about one hit.)
- Wake-up kicks are too good; they need to go. I did fairly well with the other characters for a while, then I picked Alpha and immediately got destroyed. That's when I realized how much I've been relying on wake-up kicks, because Alpha doesn't have them.

Castlevania: SOTN (PSN) on my PSP.
Finally jumped the gun and bought it early this morning on US PSN (for the 60hz version). It's amazing. Just how I'd always remembered it to be. One thing I don't quite like however is the PSP's small screen, but that's a small compromise in the grand scheme of things.

I keep meaning to give Hotline Miami a proper shot, but everytime I end up switching it off after a few minutes. This, despite buying the game for both PC and Vita, as well as interviewing one of the developers on two separate occasions.railslave wrote:Got a vita recently so ..

Gravity Rush is indeed lush.
Aliens: CM is disappointing. Not as bad as people make it out to be, but still wasted potential. I give the 360 version a 6/10. I also recently bought the PC version for less than £4, because Sega could do with the money.

FF7 (US PSN): Bought this along with Castlevania: SotN. PSP d-pad makes controlling your party a bit hard. And the screen could be bigger. But still the same game overall.
Man, my forthcoming 3DS better live up to to all the enjoyment that my PSP is giving me. Such a wonderful machine that is/was. Shame I picked it up so late.

Just finished Zelda:ALBW. Ahhh... so lovely. Thinking on it, I suppose the game would've benefited from a completely new map... maybe. But it was just different enough. Prolly take a few days' break and get into Hero Mode.

Sonic R [GC].
This is a piss easy game [you can unlock everything in 30 minutes really, at least once you stop using forward to accelerate], so why do people have so much trouble with it? I was half-paying attention while racing some friends of mine and trouncng them. And they've played it before, so they don't really have an excuse.
I bought Sonic Generations on Steam long before I had a machine that could run it to show my support, knowing it was a good game. For a game that would be described with the words "wasted potential", I don't think I'd do that.

Oh, hell no. Well, at £4, that's probably not the worst, but supporting them by buying A:CM is problematic.replayme wrote:I also recently bought the PC version for less than £4, because Sega could do with the money.

7th Dragon 2020.
I wanna try whatever the designer person was smoking when they made this thing.
There is a save point every 2 screens that will fully heal you for zero cost.
In the dungeon, you are given THREE revival options and NINE recovery options that heal like fucking Mega Potions, and you can refill them FOR FREE whenever you rest at the base. So how hard is it to get to the base from inside a dungeon? Escape points pop up almost as frequently as save points; they let you warp to the world map AND back to the exact same point. The vendor sells Escape items; you make enough money to buy 5 of them every encounter.
If you fuck up during battle, you can retry on the spot.
This isn't even the Casual mode.

Shin Contra
Stupid mistakes notwithstanding, I can S rank up to the boss rush on Archipelago and then it all goes pear shaped. Anyone individual piece I can do fine, but stringing them together is a pain. Dumb mistakes on Lance's first form zap a life or two and make the last several bits nerve racking. I reached the 6th stage with a credit left but have yet to get past the first flying robot thing.

Far Cry: Blood Dragon. Good, dumb fun, with some lovely graphics. I enjoyed what I played of FC3 but abandoned it for being too sprawling and bloated. This seems to be a smaller, tighter game with an excellent '80s style.
