Bug Princess & Bug Princess 2 on the iPad.
Anyone who has played both the pcb and the iOS app who can comment on how the port compares to the real deal?

I think the best you can do is to try the games yourself... Both are emulated, though not perfectly, using an unoficial MAME build called "slowpoke MAME" just google it and search for the roms.
Re: Shmup Ticker: What are you playing RIGHT NOW?
Ketsui. Edging at reaching the shitty loop. Good shit. Dangun Feveron too... but I'm resting a bit on it after 1cc. ^.^

Battle Garegga. And this time, no distractions - all my consoles are packed away, and as I'm playing in GareggaMAME for the time being until I can source a PCB, the only thing out is my SFIV TE stick.
Still an amazingly fun game, even after 17 years.

Uwabami Breakers and Samidare.
Trying to go for that 1cc in Samidare so I can try out the extra level which I've heard should be a lot of fun.

Going for the Futari 1.5 Maniac clear. Feel pretty confident about it, too, I've gotten to stage 5, I just need a run without sillier early deaths that cost me resources.
Also messing with Darius Gaiden. Autofire cuts the boss fights down a lot, but also makes stages a bit more reasonable as some stuff takes a while to die in stages...

Re: Shmup Ticker: What are you playing RIGHT NOW?
I actually hope this one done within few weeks or so - it'd be worse with a trickier shot type (one that's slower to kill stuff), but Palm Abnormal makes short work of bosses as well as enemies (and those two giant dragons in Stage 5, Palm Abnormal kills them before they get into their dangerous attack phase). I'm not too good at scoring but the second extend is well within reach, and the only bosses I'm not good at are stage 3 (stage 4 boss I find I can take pretty easily) and Larsa. My problem is I get really, really stingy with bombs and restart on an early death because I'm convinced I need them later on... and then discover I don't later on. :pchempop wrote:Good luck, that one took me FOREVER.BareknuckleRoo wrote:Going for the Futari 1.5 Maniac
I suck at scoring particularly, I can't get the chain bar in the red when I want it to like in stage 2... so much stricter than in Black Label.
Re: Shmup Ticker: What are you playing RIGHT NOW?
Yeah, that sounds like me a couple months ago.
Basically I had to pledge not to take the damn game out of my 360 until I beat it. Took me many hours in practice mode... and the result is a clear plus 20th place on the forum leaderboard for Reco Normal. :V
Scoring to get the second extend was a bitch for a while. I basically had to get as good as I could figure out how to score in stages 1 through 3, and then while playing 4 and 5 more for pure survival I would just end up sort of getting it at some point in one of those.

Kuroneko just brought me my PS2 copy of Espgaluda!
Didn't know they delivered on holidays, but I'm not complaining. Popped on here to check out the strategy section before I jump in. This game looks awesome!

Re: Shmup Ticker: What are you playing RIGHT NOW?
Futari Original.
Besides that, I popped open Espgaluda II for the first time since I got it.
In mode select the default is Black Label so i'm like YEAH THIS IS PROBABLY THE MODE I WANT
no it's fucking awful, i sat through the whole game with the dumb canceling everything and the dumb pushback mechanic
And then after I was done with that I went to the obvious 360 mode. Kakusei Overheat everything.
INSTANTLY A HUNDRED TIMES BETTER, GRINNING EAR TO EAR AS I PLAY

Re: Shmup Ticker: What are you playing RIGHT NOW?
So... Just finished a credit feed of Espgaluda. I've often heard this game quoted as Cave's easiest 1cc. You people are on crack. There's no way this is easier than Futari Black Label, Death Smiles 1 and 2, or even Daifukkatsu 1st loop (if played for survival). That said, this game is also f***ing awesome. I'm enjoying this more than I ever enjoyed 2 actually (though I do like 2). Soundtrack is one of the best I've heard in a Cave game. My only real question is: what dumbass thought reversing the controls for arranged mode was a good idea? It is going to be a pain in the ass to change them every time I want to play it.

You are supposed to play Black Label for score, that is when that mode truly shines even more than the original.Drake wrote:Futari Original.

The scoring is an even more extreme risk/reward resource management + chaining. As the uploader mentioned in one coment, it may be one of the most complex scoring systems ever created for an STG

Hellsinker.
My hands, and fingers, are sore. And I died at the end of stage 6 yet again. FFS.
Now I remember why I stopped playing this game - it's murder on my hands.

Re: Shmup Ticker: What are you playing RIGHT NOW?
Technically, a 1CC of Futari Black Label Original with Reco (whose shot type produces massive slowdown and rapes the entire screen with lockon beetles and ridiculous damage) is probably easier, as long as you're not actively scoring and you keep the counter down (the game gets way harder if you're aiming for score however, as with high counter the rank gets vicious in a hurry, and you need to keep it up there for points). What's giving you trouble with Galuda? The bullet patterns can be tricky, sure, as it's not simply a matter of tap dodging most things, but once you get more comfortable with the stages you can beat it pretty easily, especially since you can save Kakusei purely for survival purposes if you like to cancel scary patterns and assist with dodges. You also get 4 bombs per life if you use them via tapping, which is generally the best way to use them (although charging it to kill a boss phase is helpful if you're pretty sure that attack would require another bomb to get through without getting hit).ACSeraph wrote:So... Also note that if you want pure damage, use Tateha. You spend more time in normal mode when you're fighting bosses anyways, and her laser in normal mode actually does more damage than Ageha's does because she gets two piercing shots on either side of her laser, and they actually contribute to the damage more than the laser itself does. In kakusei her damage is worse than Ageha's at long range, but if you point blank with the rapid shot and all the piercing bullets hit (this requires the enemy to be fairly big) it's comparable to Ageha's kakusei mode laser. Ageha's easier to score with though, as the precision of his shots allows you to choose exactly what and when to kill stuff.
Re: Shmup Ticker: What are you playing RIGHT NOW?
Judgement Silversword. Just need to get a decent run and I should have the 1cc soon :3

I wouldn't say it's giving me trouble per se. I just got it today so obviously I can't expect to be able to 1cc it yet. I'm just saying based on that credit feed I can't Imagine the game being easier than those other games I mentioned. I think it can be done, but it is going to require a lot more work and memorization than something like Futari. Also the final boss is absolutely brutal.

Re: Shmup Ticker: What are you playing RIGHT NOW?
I await eagerly when you play EspGaluda II if you found the last boss of Galuda I brutal
Galuda I is made easier when you cancel patterns agressively on the stages. Before letting the whole screen fill with bullets and then use the Kakusei, identify which enemies bother you and kill then quickly using the kakusei. The best way you can do this is "learning" the enemies' health so you can depleate their health using the normal shot and finishing then using the kakusei. That way you can have it active the least times possible and save gems.
2tricks to get more gems:
1 - At the beginning, get Kakusei over quickly. At that moment you'll see a ring around your char... Let it be filled three times until it dissapears. That way you get extra gems. The bad thing is that this resets when you die.
2 - I'm not sure but the more you are up on the screen when you kill an enemy on normal mode, the more gems you get.

Re: Shmup Ticker: What are you playing RIGHT NOW?
I agree, it's definitely designed to play for score, and uhhh it might be one of the most complex scoring systems ever created, but that isn't necessarily a good thing. Note, I don't like EspGaluda's scoring system to begin with, never mind adding more canceling nonsense on top of it. I guess "played it for the first time" might have thrown you off, but I'm no stranger to how Galuda works, at least in general. I definitely wasn't expecting Black Label though and clearly wasn't playing "the right way".O. I knew quite a while before yesterday that I wasn't going to like playing it the normal way (at least, with the original game), so it's definitely my fault for wasting my time.

Re: Shmup Ticker: What are you playing RIGHT NOW?
I've been playing for a while now, on and off, and I can only sometimes make it through to stage 3 on one credit (there the difficulty REALLY spikes).ACSeraph wrote:So... The stage 2 boss is a total asshole.
But it's probably my favorite cave game along with DaiOuJou. ESPGaluda is a fun cave scoring system, while DaiOuJou is a white-knuckle survival-endurance masterpiece (only up to stage 3 there, myself).
I'm still working on trying to beat Dogyuun's boomerang boss, but I keep on fucking up - the replays make it look a lot easier!
EDIT: I'm an idiot - I finally found the region settings for the game. Whoops.

Re: Shmup Ticker: What are you playing RIGHT NOW?
I was playing Blue Wish Ressurection Plus a few hours ago, as it was recommended to me by LtC.
Pretty nice game... reminds me a lot of the cave shooters. I managed to get an 1cc on original with auto-guard and wait mode activated as well (default settings). My final score was: 22829320.
Recorded my playthrough as well, so, I'm gonna post to youtube later.

Re: Shmup Ticker: What are you playing RIGHT NOW?
Actually I've had Galuda 2 for a long time now, and I think it is maybe the second hardest Cave game (that I have; I'm sure there's way harder stuff out there) under Pink Sweets which is just bullshit. I love the style of Galuda 2, but I think it's beyond my 1cc capabilities at the moment since I've only gotten serious with shmups recently. Maybe someday...O. On the topic of Galuda 1, I actually haven't been maxing my Kakusei level so I'll give that a shot today. I think once I memorize more of the game and where exactly to use kakusei things will get easier. It's just a time consuming process. I just got Futari Black Label this weekend too and I can already beat every stage individually in training mode, and I can make it to late stage 4 on 1 credit. I think the difference between the two is that you have to have very detailed plan in Galuda which takes a ton of practice, whereas if you have a general idea of whats coming in Futari you can just flow with the patterns on reaction.
Re: Shmup Ticker: What are you playing RIGHT NOW?
Judgement Silversword, almost 1cc'd;
not even mad, too funny
Code: Select all
<zaa> no-miss divine expression, 6 lives going into mitsurugi :o
<zaa> WHAT
<zaa> are you fucking serious
<zaa> hahaha
<zaa> I got hit by mitsurugi's trap and cinematic kill attack
<zaa> but he killed me with his sword at the same time I got trapped
<zaa> so I respawned and it's going to kill me again
<zaa> WWW
<zaa> then judgement silversword spawns on me
<zaa> this fucking game
<zaa> it spawns on me and fails to move to the top of the screen
<zaa> let's try that again

Jamestown just to get achievements. Haven't played it since release.
Just got Under Defeat HD. The heli rotation mechanic is awesome but sorta throws me off. Would be better on a smaller monitor rather than my big screen. I love recording my horrible shmup playthroughs!

My first divorciversary was this week so my friends and I celebrated by going to every arcade in the prefecture. It was a major shmup fest for me and apparently lots of our arcades have updated their lineups.
Got to play Daifukkatsu (set on very hard for some inexplicable reason, but I still made it to stage 5's laser rings before losing my credit)
Then went to the next place to see that they had just got Daioujou (A game that I had never played aside from the iOS version, my god was it good I really need to buy a copy)
And finally my other arcade got rid of Deathsmiles and replaced it with Progear, another first for me and a very good trade imo.
Great weekend all around!
