yeah it is so fluid - it's a lovely little one shot like Metal Skin Panic Madox 01 - just very enjoyable IMO.

Your ever watch the mermaid movies by rumiko? She made two or three comics of them I think. I've only seen mermaids scar. It freaked me out the first time I saw the trailer for it on the first volume of ranma1/2. Good thing the main guy was immortal in it. There's a scene where he trips onto some piano wire and almost cuts his head off.

Just marathoned Punpun completely. That was some fucked up shit.

On the positive side, I developed a fetish for hair and buildings.

Never heard of Dragon Half until Discotek’s licensing of the show so thought I’d give it a look and did some downloading.
Half naked girl with wings and a tail, some D & D, what’s not to love? Regrettably it seems like a bit of a turd. It felt like some sort of lame jrpg spoof with feeble attempts at physical humour and chibi mode every 3 seconds. Also something about teen idol dragon hunters and shit like that but I sorta tuned out part way through.
I at least got to the end of the first ep but decided against proceeding to the second, which is probably for the best because apparently the OVA doesn’t even resolve the story it sets up, thus incomplete (though this is often the norm for many a 80s/ early 90s OVA).
Not the best pick up for Discotek.

Oh and that ED has been in my head all f’ing day:

Thank heavens you didn't get it! I had the old ADV DVD. Couldn't even get through 20 minutes of it. A shit pickup, for sure, but probably smart on their part. A lot of fans for this tripe, oddly enough. As much as I'd love to see them pump out classics, it's probably a smart business strategy to pick up something for everyone, much like their recent acquisition of School Days. Nothing I'll buy, but as long as it'll help 'em out in the long run, then I'm all for it.

Yeah you’re absolutely right, I know it’s in their best interests to sell this dreck as it will no doubt bring in some much needed revenue, but urgh :(

Ok I took a chance the other night and watched a more new anime series called attack on titan. I heard about it from a preview for a 3DS game that was being made. I actually love the ideas the series uses and the violence is respectable for an anime. The character designs are generic I think though, but overall I was impressed.

Oh and I watched it on Netflix. I also watched kite last night. I forgot about that movie. I blocked it out of my mind when I bought the uncut version back in high school. I didn't know it had hentai in it. I thought there'd be more action. I threw the DVD away. Didn't want to sell it at all.

Last anime I bought was the old adv dvd of battle Angel alita. Probably in my top five favorite mangas ever. I just wished they could have done the whole series like that movie. It only covered the first two volumes. I wonder if James Cameron will ever make it like he said he wanted to. I hated avatar.

Also being a fastbro, watched End of Evangelion today. Had to pause five minutes in to google to check if what I thought I saw happen really happened. Good stuff.

The second half is more endless psychobabble rubbish (but with actual backgrounds this time), but that first half was worthwhile.

--

.Hack viewing process: "All right, I get to watch the opening sequence! : )" and then its over and it's like "Oh no, now I have to watch .Hack : ("

It somehow feels mean dumping on it, since it doesn't even try. Like complaining about a guy leaning against a wall not being entertaining; he's not supposed to be.

Somehow what bothers me the most is how everyone carries their weapons (that they never use) all the time. Wouldn't they get tired? Why can't they sheathe their weapons? What kind of horrible world do these people occupy?

Bailage. Guess the Evangelion Remake can't possibly be any worse than what I've been doing to myself lately.

I tend to lean toward anime films because I don't always have the patience for a whole series.

Sword of the Stranger and Porco Rosso are two of my favorites and definitely worth checking out.

Tari Tari and Tamako Market, which to watch first. Both look like nice calm shows, just can't decide.

watched more City Hunter - ok the groping is a bit much, but apart from that it is very entertaining and well made, I can see why you like it so much drauch - it is very similar in a lot of ways to Dirty Pair, even the episode titles are done in a similar way :).

'Mokkori Leotarduh!'

the incredible amount of english being spoken in it is hilarious also.

I just finished watching Paranoia Agent. It's really awesome. The bit in the last episode drove me to tears (you'll know what I'm talking about when you get to it)

I like Paranoia Agent (as I do any of Kon’s work) but I thought the show sorta suffered from some bad direction…well maybe not bad, but wayward direction in the last half.
You've got story centric first 6 episodes then for the next 6, arbitrary non plot related episodes that go off on some tangent, mostly in an attempt at making Shonen Bat out to be some ominous insipid monster from within. These later episodes seem to completely forget about the characters, their motives and the plot at large, and insist upon going into some fantasy adventure of their own. I don’t know exactly what Kon’s intentions were for Paranoia Agent (perhaps my feeble mind just couldn't comprehend what he was trying to convey), but I think I would have liked it significantly more if it was a little more purposeful and focused in its narrative structure.

I agree. When they had an episode entirely about women gossiping I knew the show had gone off course. I like the one about the 3 people looking to die, though. It was a strangely positive take on such a negative theme. Plus there's the twist at the end of that episode.

Anyway, I feel as though the old man in the story was supposed to be one of the center characters, but they didn't do enough with him (for me at least) to make any educated guesses. They tugged at my heartstrings a little too much though. Taking this adorable icon and turning into a tragedy. That's not fair.

I didn't like Paranoia Agent (neither did I like Perfect Blue), but the most gash problem with the former is the lack of ideas for so many episodes. Hence all the filler.

Been kind of a lousy month when it comes to meeting expectations. 80's Magical Girlfriend Animoo for 8 y/o's World of Narue has been the highpoint, and that's just a "I inexplicably don't hate this" deal.

Nabari no Ou is about gay ninjas running away from being gay (and absolutely nothing else), Robotics;Notes tries to hamfistedly touch you in the feels but no feels can be touched when the suspension of disbelief is shattered when the protagonist can't figure out how to lift someone up (up is a direction that exists!) and Gurren Lagann is overrated.

So, been digging through lists of horror these days. Rough since kids these days think gore = horror for some reason. Since most of these never get an animation; lots of comics.

English covers of anime songs really demonstrate how lousy rigid literal translations are at aesthetics. Vee's covers of Rolling Star and Superdriver are pretty good examples. "Stragglers" is a word that should never be used in lyrics, evar

The official cover of God Knows would be much worse if it were remotely accurate. You know what else would blow if it had been literal? The cover of 99 Luftballons.

Recently rewatched Akira. Stuck it on a TV with subs for my friends at uni because why not. Also, Redline after.

holy fuck, I forgot how violent Akira starts out [and then was kind of disappointed that almost all the violence later on seemed rather restrained]
Also, I could have swore I re-watched it recently-ish (within the last 2 years), but no. I clean forgot some parts even happened.

This movie though, damn. I've never really noticed how much it's shaped my whole perception of anime and cyberpunk.
Like, wow.

on an unrelated note, Black Magic M-66 is in my Amazon's recommendations list, is it any good?
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

Just finished rewatching Jorgumngand with a friend. God, it was even better than the first time i saw it. I can't stop recommending this series, it's a perfect adaptation of a good manga. No fillers, good animation, nice music and excellent fight scenes.

It's a blast. Total OVA goodness throughout. Action, adventure, babes, robots, explosions, etc.--just pure fun! There's a new DVD out by Sentai/Section 23 with a nice and purdy picture. Well worth the purchase or upgrade from the ancient, past releases.

I second that - a great little sorta Predator-ish OVA, really really impressive art overall, but especially the fluidity of character animation.
