Bowie...

Absolutely. That and of course "The Man Who Fell to Earth" are some pretty overlooked movies.MintyTheCat wrote:I always recall his part in The Hunger: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0085701/

Not his biggest by any stretch, but the scene with his cameo in Fire, Walk With Me scared the living shit out of me.

Big Bowie fan here. I got into him back in 2002 via the then-released Best of Bowie, then spent a glorious Summer slowly working my way through his back catalogue, each album so different from the last. That was one magical time in my life (carefree post-uni days) and he was the soundtrack.
I didn't feel sad sad until I saw the video for Lazarus. That's some challenging stuff. To document one's life through art, right until the end... it's an incredible way to go out and has got me reflecting on my own mortality.
I've had the Best Of on again this evening and I confess that Life on Mars put a lump in my throat. Seems absurd but there you go.

I had Pale Blue Eyes on a loop when Lou Reed passed away and got choked up almost every iteration.Tregard wrote: I've had the Best Of on again this evening and I confess that Life on Mars put a lump in my throat. Seems absurd but there you go.

Coincidentally Alan Rickman (Sheriff of Nottingham in COSTNER VER) has died too. It's true, this'll be the pop-cultural norm for we 30/40-somethings.
RIP Hans Gruber, glad you made it one last Christmas!

2016 started so so awful. Lemmy, Bowie and now Rickman. Alot of good, talented and creative people passing away.
Make me a bit sad.

I was actually thinking recently what would I do if one of my 80's goto band members died. Simon LeBon was in there. Robert Smith... anyone from Depeche Mode. Those will be sad days.

They need to fix that meme to say, "God, give us back David Bowie and you can have Justin Beiber."

Two working class dudes, one black one white, just baked a tray of ten cookies together.
An oligarch walks in and grabs nine cookies for himself.
Then he says to the white dude "Watch out for that black dude, he wants a piece of your cookie!"

Hell, Mischief Maker, all I saw was Bloom County and I assumed the worst.
I'm still only halfway through the movie, it's that bad. I started watching well before Christmas. I respect Rickman greatly all the same.
And yeah, Bowie was one of the greats. I've been meaning to look into more of his stuff for a long time, he's always been an interesting character. Despite the hair and the "gay" talk (from himself sometimes!) the bastards never tarnished his legacy. Speaking of which, he was really a visionary in a way you can't say about a lot of celebrities. In this interview from 2000 he's basically describing the Internet we have today. Note to sneery interviewers everywhere: Be a part of the future, don't just survive into it. Bowie would have given anything to continue to see where we're going with AR and VR and all the rest of the alphabet soup.
So far I'm enjoying 2016, $3+ trillion wiped off the stock exchanges aside. Still worth being cheery enough, I'd say, and I think Bowie would agree.
Now if only we can get some closure on Bill Cosby.
Shit, really? I didn't see that one coming.BIL wrote:Coincidentally Alan Rickman (Sheriff of Nottingham in COSTNER VER) has died too. It's true, this'll be the pop-cultural norm for we 30/40-somethings.

Dan Haggerty, aka "Grizzly Adams", dead of cancer at age 74.
I'm not very familiar with the show myself, but I do like the quote from him at the bottom.

And the hits keep coming...
Glenn Fry of Eagles fame, and two big solo hits (The Heat is On from the Beverly Hills Cop soundtrack, and You Belong to the City from Miami Vice) is dead at 67.
