Thanks for the great review. I can't wait until January now. Hard to believe that game is running on the Neo-Geo. So many sprites on screen.jasoncslaughter wrote:Just posted a review on YouTube. Email update for DC folks...

All sounds goodDear customers,
we hoped to be able to ship NEO XYX Dreamcast before the winter holidays. But we need to move the release to January.
The new console port features such as portrait mode need more time and our CD printing factory is already at production limit. Even if we would finish today, we would not make it before the Dec. 23th.
We will use the extra time to improve the DC port and add a second portrait screen mode with GPU scaling and a few other new console port options.
This affects the following products:
NEO XYX / ZAIKUSU DC Collector Edition [CE]
NEO XYX / ZAIKUSU DC Limited Edition [LE]
NEO XYX / ZAIKUSU DC Regular Edition [RE]
Newcomer Bundle DC 2013
We will announce the release date in January.
Best regards,
NG : DEV . TEAM

Yeah - if I have to wait a little longer for a little more spit and polish, that's all fine with me. I'd rather them do this than rush it out.
Re: New NEOGEO / Dreamcast game: "NEO XYX" NG: DEV.TEAM 2013
Played this today at TRY arcade in Akihabara and found it pretty enjoyable. Pixel art and a straightforward scoring system are two things I miss in this genre.
It isn't perfect: the difficulty is unbalanced (the first half of stage 1 is fairly tough for that early in the game but stage 3, including the boss, is pretty easy), the ship movement/item collection/bullet dodging feels a bit off still (compared to what I saw in early videos) and I don't know why, and the button configuration with the button that just slows you down (rather than a button that slows you down and fires) is unintuitive.
I liked the game, though, and want to play it some more.

Yeah that sounds kinda awkward, I guess they wanted it to be slightly different from cave, while still imitating them.NTSC-J wrote:the button configuration with the button that just slows you down (rather than a button that slows you down and fires) is unintuitive.

Any news activity on the DC port?
Re: New NEOGEO / Dreamcast game: "NEO XYX" NG: DEV.TEAM 2013
Okay. I'm dumbfounded here. Why only releases for a console that isn't sold anymore. It's like.. if you don't own a working DC, then it's 'Fuck you, Casual. HAHA! * Points and laughs *'

Because releasing games for dead systems is what ngdev is all about.
Also fuck those casuals, they're too casual to deserve this game.

Sadly it's the last mainstream system where you CAN still release your own games that run out the box without requiring users hack it in any way.Wyrmnus wrote:Okay. I'm dumbfounded here. That no doubt has a great deal to do with it.
If Sony / MS had made the PS3 and 360 'open' platforms as soon as the next generation hit I'm sure you'd see these things released there, of course nobody would bother buying the new systems that way..

they tried to release gunlord on nintendo consoles via a fund raiser, but didn't get even close to their funding goal

They might have reached it if they weren't like 2 or 3 games behind their supposed release schedule.

And confirmation today that the DC version is starting factory pressing, with a mid-February release expected. Can't wait!
Re: New NEOGEO / Dreamcast game: "NEO XYX" NG: DEV.TEAM 2013
does look good, liking the multi-jointed enemies, shame they couldn't have thrown more parallax in on the DC version.

Re: New NEOGEO / Dreamcast game: "NEO XYX" NG: DEV.TEAM 2013
Got it two days ago and played a couple of credits since then.
The game is really good. It's surprisingly busy from the get-go, you're thrown right into the action. Stage one is not a typical introductory stage like in many other games. The game feels overwhelmingly toaplan-ish, but I can sense some Psikyo influence, too, in that you have to play very agressively to eliminate bigger threats as soon as possible. Rozyrg's graphics are nothing short of stunning, and the music is of the high quality you'd expect from Dyll.
Also: Damn you, medal chaining!

Re: New NEOGEO / Dreamcast game: "NEO XYX" NG: DEV.TEAM 2013
this game pretty much wants you dead from the first shot on, almost all shots are aimed directly @ you and they are very fast as well. i thought that it would be easier but its pretty tough. for the ost, it`s ok but i think i liked dyll`s soundtracks for gunlord and the söldner x games more. The game is really good. Looks bloody gorgeous on my PVM CRT, but I did have to take the brightness and contrast way down into the minus numbers.
As Herr Schatten says, stage one is really in at the deep end! So bloody fast, frantic and tough from the opening moments. If I have a ship choice, I prefer slow ships, so this has taken some getting used too. Just made it to stage three; that took some doing.
The medalling mechanic, (at least to get them to max out in stage one) seems to be about avoiding some formations of popcorn, so as to avoid getting too many medals, making it easier to make them step up in value. Sticking to one side of the screen seems to do the job, but results in getting rather overwhelmed and boxed in. In other words, a really nice risk/reward balance.
Re: New NEOGEO / Dreamcast game: "NEO XYX" NG: DEV.TEAM 2013
Can't wait to get and play this, anyone know how long ng:dev take to ship to the UK ?
Re: New NEOGEO / Dreamcast game: "NEO XYX" NG: DEV.TEAM 2013
Not sure, but I think I'm right that they are shipping in the order that people paid in (I preorder in November 2012, I think!), but that with preorders the version ordered is the main factor. With preorders, I think DC standard edition went first, then LE, then CE (seems the wrong way round, but might have been about what was produced first). I may be wrong. I know Rupert H here in the UK hadn't got his CE when I'd got my LE.
Still, the wait will make it all the more exciting when it does arrive! And I'm sure it won't take too long; Germany to UK is a relative stone's throw, in terms of shipping.
